  1. this has turned out to be a real challenge, this is my 1999 LS400. I turn the light off, and within 20 miles, it is back on. I had Auto zone check it and they reported codes, 1345 & 1354 which are: 1345 CS position sensor malfunction,... open, short, or failed AND 1354 VVT system malfunction... valve timing off, blocked oil passage, failed oil control valve or electrical circuit fault the car starts, runs and handles perfect, without any noise. ANY IDEAS?? any simular situations?? I have checked gas cap, swapped batterys with my 97 LS, cleaned battery cable ends, plus the double cables on the positive connector.
  2. 4. Outside Rear View Mirror NEW for 1998-2000 The design of the outside rearview mirror has been changed to reduce the wind noise which is created between the vehicle body and the mirror. A reverse linked function has been adopted. In this function, the passenger side outside rearview mirror faces downward when the shift lever is engaged in the R range and the selector switch for the outside rearview mirrors is engaged in the driver side, thus providing a downward view when driving in reverse.
  3. I just called a salvage yard and they said 95-97(before 7/97) are all the same, and 97(after 7/97) thru 2000 are the same mirror. SO: two different mirrors.... (he didnt know about the housings) hope this helps
  4. call a salvage yard, they have interchange books, they can (might not want to) tell you.
  5. I HAVE PROGRAMED 4 DIFFERENT REMOTES WITH THESE INSTRUCTIONS. 1. Driver's door OPEN and unlocked, all other doors closed and locked. 2. Insert YOUR key in ignition, DO NOT TURN, remove key. 3. Using the MANUAL lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times). 4. Shut door. 5. Open door. 6. Using the lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times). 7. With the door open insert your key into the ignition, turn to on position (DON'T START), wait 5 seconds. Turn off and remove key. 8. Locks should cycle once (Car will lock and then unlock once). If they don't cycle or they cycle more than once, do steps 1-7 over. 9. Now using the remote, push lock button, hold for one second, release. The locks should cycle once. If not, start over and go slower. 10. Close the door. Open the door. Press the lock button on the remote. The locks should cycle. Close the door. Press the lock button on the remote, the doors should lock. Press again and the doors should unlock. Added: An afterthought, I'd suggest leaving a window down, just in case you get locked out. BUT------ PAY ATTENTION TO THIS. If ANY one of the 4 door locks hangs, (operates improperly), for ANY reason, the system shuts down and will not allow completion. SO, good luck
  6. let us know what all you had to fix, it will help someone else... Cheers.. post a photo of your LS..
  7. call an auto parts store, see if the numbers are the same
  8. bar rod, same? where the rod fits in the handle, there should be a plastic clip that fits around the rod and it should have an angle on it that pushes into the hole in the handle. you should be able to get something that small from the dealer at a small cost, or a salvage yard. this should help....
  9. the first thing you need to do is remove the door panel, find out how here. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/ then you will find a rod coming from the handle, down to the lock assembly, it SHOULD be held on with plastic clips (which damage easily)and one of them is probably broken, as you remove the panel, be praying that it is the upper clip that is broken, because if it is the lower, you will need another lock assembly, but most salvage yards can help you. good luck been there-done that
  10. FORGET IT, NOBODY WANTS THE 97, I WILL KEEP IT AND SELL THE 1996. 155K THEY LOOK ALIKE. 4500. [b]SOLD SOLD SOLD
  11. First generation LS cars have the door lock remote built in the key head, I dont think a fob will work for you.
  12. I guess he got the message... who knows...
  13. it did, do you think the GS and the LS are the same?
  14. I should have also noted that calling is a better option. Most salvage yards are still old school, some don't reply to emails daily, some places only have one person to handle the internet sales. Calling the place usually gets a quicker answer, and even better if you find one remotely close, just go in person. Money talks, a person calling is not a potential customer as much as the guy standing at the counter, cash in hand. I do a lot of business with salvage yards and there's always the guy who's too busy to look up or worse go out and find a random, obscure part. Show up ready to buy though and he's motivated to get on it and do it. I cannot find a salvage 1998-2000 ls400 within 100 miles of Dallas area..... to walk up to.
  15. These folks can probably help you on your grill... direct: http://www.topspeedauto.com/ProductCart/pc/advSearch_M.asp?fp=bnd&priceFrom=0&priceUntil=999999999&idCategory=0&idSupplier=10&resultCnt=10&IDBrand=115&keyword= or this: and hunt http://www.topspeedauto.com/Templates/AboutUs.htm Top Speed Tel: 972.233.0888 Please call from Monday to Friday: 9:00am to 6:00pm good luck
  16. well for whatever it is worth, here is my 2 cents... I have a 96 and a 99, same as those two.. my 96 has 155k on it and is probably the "stronger" car, tuff and solid and very dependible.... BUT, the 99 is soft AND solid, and is also dependible, it has 139k.... probably just not as strong as the 96. To get in them and go somewhere, the 99 is my choice. I enjoy the more plush comfort.. SO, if they are the same $$, get the 2000, 50k, 100k, 150k who cares, you cant wear one out, you just have to change every so often... .
  17. good luck on finding a 1998-2000 LS400 in a salvage yard.... let me know if you do. A quick yard search yielded about 30 of them. Sports and Imports here in GA specializes in Lexus only, they easily have a couple in stock all the time. www.car-part.com, enter your search criteria for a front door, then call to see if they'll part the motor. Lesser yards that only charge $250-300 for the whole door will gladly pull it in most cases. thanks, I am checking, as of 4:45 saturday I have not had a single reply from www.car-part.com... emailing ALL their vendors looking for the lock or actuator.... do you want to check with your GA yard????
  18. good luck on finding a 1998-2000 LS400 in a salvage yard.... let me know if you do.
  19. you have a bad actuator in that door, and only a new lock will cure it.... $600. dollar job at this time, eventually a repair motor will become availiable to repair it. but that is future, so put up with it or shell out $600 bucks... myself, I am putting up with it, in my 99.

  22. it sounds very nice, but your question is not for us to answer. to get an idea, run a scan on craigslist in a major city near you for 95-97 LS's with low mileage. from then on, it is what ever you can live with..... but keep us posted. cheers CL-Dallas: 1995 LEXUS LS400....SUPER NICE....LOADED.....111,000 MILES $7995 ebay: 1996 Lexus LS LS400, LESS THAN 40,000 ORIGINAL MILES. 11500.
