Yeah SRK, I was thinking the same thing as I watched the red Toyota coolant run like a river across the street. She shed her 'blood' for me :cries: I credit the good Lord and the safety/engineering of the LS for nary a scratch. (good sermon entry, Billy ^_^ ). I agree that although I loved that car, it can not be restored to former glory. Its worse than the photos show. I am already doing a search for another LS, probably an LS430. I really like the body style of the 2nd gen over the 3rd, but the 430 can be sweet if you find the right one. I even gave a passing notion to a Mercedes then gained my sanity back. I dont like working on cars THAT much! You are right Landar... WELL I won it, mail it to me, thanks. In my 95LS400 I just had the exact same thing happen. It was a nightmare, but once the shop I took it to replaced it (at $900!!!) the damn noise didn't go away! Come to find out, it was the rubber gasket that goes around the steering column at the firewall. Only cost $150 to replace that, which immediately fixed the problem. Crazy thing is that my buddy who owns the shop actually showed me the egr tube, and it was indeed split where it flexes, but that wasn't the noise after all! make sure you check that gasket before getting into the expense of the egr tube fix!!!! THANKS, I will check it our tomorrow mine seems to be ok, it is not real noisy inside, just a noise that I dont/didnt hear on my others, in fact it is when I accelerate that is sounds off, like when we used to turn our air filter cover upside down to let more air into the Carburetor... most of y'all wont know what I am talking about.. but that is the sound..

WOW, I sure hope you are wrong, I just got my pipe and gaskets saturday, hope to get it in next week, will try to take some photos, IF SUCCESSFUL, or warnings if not.... Pray for me and my nephew, Jon (he does most of the physical work, I am just a guide).

Hard to believe some one paying 1900 for that.... but it is their $$$$ not for me.. Maybe you didn't really read the OTHER work I mentioned was included for the $1900 total. The TB/WP tensioner replacement work with OEM factory parts and labor was actualy $890.00. More than fair IMHO. The rest of the work was new strut rods & new moto mounts, alignment, coolant replacement. Now, those of you that have the time, the expertise to "do it yourself", mo' power to ya. Do your thing. I don't have time or inclination to do all that work myself, nor do I have the tools or space. And, as I said, for 5 yrs, I have spent squat on this car in heavy maintenence, so to shell this amount out now, and have it all done right didn't even make me flich. Equals $400.00 per yr of owndership. Maybe some of you assumed I paid $1900 for a TB/WP job only. I ain't THAT crazy! And I didn't go thru a stealership, I used a highly recommended indepenent Lexus repair shop in my area. I'm quite satisfied with the outcome. YEP, $35 a month is a good deal.... you done good.. I didn't consider all of it, sorry. AND I am a do it yourselfer, with a young tallented nephew (also a mechanic)..

REMOTE PROBLEMS.. MY REMOTE WILL LOCK ALL 4 DOORS and go beep, but will not unlock doors or trunk. New quote: this Ls400 will not program itself to receive a new signal. let me explain. first: I know how to program a remote... done several.. I go thru the program, KEY in/out, lock/unlock/ close/open. lock/unlock, key in/out w/turn (1&2) BUT THE PROGRAM NEVER CYCLES THE LOCKS to let you know to PRESS THE REMOTE(send the signal) I have PRESSED THE REMOTE anyway, but to no avail... the system will not receive it.... TROUBLE LOCATED: ONE SMART SERVICE MANAGER.. I talked with the service manager at Sewell, and he told/showed me what the problem is. the actuator in the RF door is lazy (works inconsistantly) and when the Controller fails to receive a signal from all 4 doors (ON THE LOCK/UNLOCK SETUP), it shuts down the program. so I need a replacement actuator..... here is a side shot....

My "new" 96 LS has more cabin noise than my others, I had it checked and they said it was the EGR tube leaking. Has anyone else had this problem? where did you get the parts? the dealer said they would R&R the trans to do it. I know better than that, just want to see what YOU have done.. looks like we can lower the sub frame and gain access to it. any comments??

well the idea is good anyway..... like a lot of other stuff, it just wont work.....

my 97 is getting stiff when cold (first startup), while my 96, I can spin freely. (no effort) what do you use to clean the screen? I dont want to damage it..... of course it might already be torn. let me see if I understand..... if the screen is torn, the fluid bypasses and returnes to the pump without assisting the rack properly..... right? thanks in advance..

Well, in short, it is not a good idea. The rubber part(bushing) ages even in the junk yard. Ozone and the elements cause cracks and deterioration of the bushing which are only detectable upon close examination or when your vehicle goes "clunk". Especially if you are paying for labor, it is wise to only go with new. You can have new bushings pressing into the old bars if you like or go with a completely new unit. I have a tutorial showing how to remove and replace the entire bar. Not hard. My strut bars need replaced and could sure use the tutorial if you could post. I ended up buying the car since it is a CPO and after doing the research as you say, on edmunds and KBB. It was a good deal and just an amazing vehicle - I totally lucked out being at the dealer, right place right time. The only thing it didn't hae were the SAT RADIO and IPOD hookups, but the dealer is installing these at no charge. And since it has only 17,000 miles, I opted to add 3 years to the 3yr 100000 warranty. It's kinda expensive at $2750, but they will refund the entire amount if the warranty is not used in the first 3 years (maybe I got ripped here - seemed like a good idea). Thank you all for the help - This is really a terrific site - very helpful and informative - i guess I'm now officially part of "the club". Congratulations! You'll get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction out of it. I also bought an 06 LS430 with the Ultra package. Couldn't be more pleased. I "think" I've attached a couple of photos.
