  1. Yep, I love them... gave $4500 of the 96, want $4500 for the 97. there is no difference other than the PS is easier in the 96. and yes I tried, the 96 program just wont activate, I know how to do it.
  2. REMOTE PROBLEMS.. MY REMOTE WILL LOCK ALL 4 DOORS and go beep, but will not unlock door/trunk. New quote: this Ls400 will not program itself to receive a new signal. let me explain. first: I know how to program a remote... done several.. I go thru the program, KEY in/out, lock/unlock/ close/open. lock/unlock, key in/out w/turn (1&2) BUT THE PROGRAM NEVER CYCLES THE LOCKS to let you know to PRESS THE REMOTE(send the signal) I have PRESSED THE REMOTE anyway, but to no avail... the system will not receive it.... IN MY MIND, I wonder "where this program is stored"..... ALSO, is there a "blown fuse/loose connection" somewhere??? Davenport, JP Importz, PP, Sewell.... basically say the same thing "I never heard of that one" can any of you offer any suggestions or answer my "thoughts"?? thanks OLD QUOTE(Well guys, I done it. I bought another Diamond White Pearl. this one is a 96, but it only has 153K miles on it, clean as a pin. I have full history on it. He was late putting TB/WP on it. It was replaced Jan 2, 2009 at 141646 miles. BUT the remote (FOB) dosent work. program wont activate. carried it to Park Place Lexus, all they did was lie to me. estimated 700-1000 dollars and never mentioned electronics. just a door lock and 2 actuators to start... said 2 doors didnt lock. LIE, all 4 doors lock and unlock with button AND with the key. ANYWAY... if any of yall know where the program memory is, maybe I can swap it off my 97 OWP car before I sell it.. ?? . what do you think? suggestions? I just wanted 2 matching LS's. and DWP is pretty. Oh, I kept my chrome wheels.
  3. So maybe I will bite the bullet, & spend $470 on parts you can if you want to, I didnt, my parts came from: http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/page247.html everything fit perfect, and the car runs fantastic.
  4. but then I thought... if/when belt breaks, engine dies, I loose power steering, and have to pull car to side of road immediately, or wife does, and on freeways, I risk causing an accident, and hurting my lexus, or me, or my wife or kids, or causing a chain reaction collision that hurts others on the public roadways... I thought of legal terms like "negligent homicide" or "involuntary manslaughter" and thought maybe a new timing belt (and serpintine drive belt) is worthwhile after all. WELL!! if that wont light your fire, your wood is wet........
  5. on my old 94 LS, it ran 230K before it broke, (Ibought it broke) fixed it, sold it, and it is still going strong. WRONG!! just a crappy dealer, one of mine has been done twice at Lexus.. see the stickers. after we changed my other one I ask the dealer for one of the stickers and they told me it only came with the belt. 246K today
  6. yep, pinching my brain ......... that is the ONLY nut in this car that is not "covered" what a relief...
  7. YES, YES, YES... I finally saw that silly nut, right out in plain site ... probably why I didnt see it. thank you AZ............
  8. need help How do you remove the glove box 1997 LS400 I tried to use this: To the bottom right of the glovebox is a 10 mm bolt. Unbolt it (you may have one on each side. These bolts loosen the glovebox assembly. This along with some phillip screws drops the entire glovebox assembly. There is also a panel that attaches to the glovebox assembly. I think it has 3 clips that when pulled, comes off. A floor light may be attached to your panel, so don't pull it too far or hard..leave all that intact..no biggy. There are also phillips screws and a few more 10mm bolts, but if you remove the 1 or 2 that loosen the glovebox assembly, the rest is very simple. I DO NOT SEE ANY BOLTS TO REMOVE?????? I DO NOT SEE ANY BOLTS PERIOD!! CAN ANYONE HELP?? I HAVE REMOVED THE 3 CLIP PANEL..
  9. THat's interesting because the Edmunds MPG ratings are just the opposite: higher by 1MPG city for the 96-98 than the 99-00, but they average them all at 19mpg. The Carpoint(autos.msn) is a slightly different rating at 19/26(96), 19/25(97-98) and 18/25(99-00). Any longevity or reliability difference known between the 4-speed and 5-speed trans? your gas mileage depends on your foot and your attitude more than anything else.. a big city like Dallas, I average in the low 20's all the time, but only get 24-25 traveling, at a good solid 80. .
  10. Thanks for the advice. The center panel.. is it a press fit-in or are there screws to remove? Will a plastic pry bar be needed or can this be done without tools? SEE PHOTO: open console, ignition on (not running), mash brake, put in drive(so you can pull it backward), and GENTLY use flat blade screwdriver on left & right side of panel (by console), slide blade between trim and panel and lift up on the panel, it will come up, then pull away from dash, and clean it up..... then eat at home. (smile)
  11. Probably has a french fry hung in it, try cleaning it out the center panel pops out and you can gain access.
  12. You cant go wrong with either of these LS's, An independent shop can replace TB/WP for under $1000. and I have never heard or read of backlighting problems on 95-2000. and I drive 2 97's
  13. HERE IS ONE FOR $4000. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/1608186407.html
  14. dont know about a 99, but my 97, you just lift up on the back (screwdriver) and with a slight pull it is free. then you can change the bulb.. vary easy
  15. cancel this, got it taken care of.. thanks.
  16. You CANNOT swap out the units without SUPER extensive unit and wiring changes throughout the vehicles....... WARNING, dont even try. by the way, check out the Dallas area: craigslist.org site for LS400 & LS 400 cars. according to your prices, you can fly down here, buy one, drive it back and still save $$ but do yourself a favor and get at least a 95 (2nd gen) LS..
  17. A few years back when I had a 94 LS, I used world parts with out any negative issues and their prices were very low. Also I had used them several years ago for Lincoln Town Car front end parts.. see them here on ebay: http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/worldsuspension/
  18. No, already got a 60+ year old wife. One is more than enough. ;) Billy, I didn't have my reading glasses on when I read your latest post and I swear I thought you were telling us that your sister-in-law is a 60+ year old hooker. WELL...... I havent followed her around, ...... maybe ..... naw I dont think ...... Hmmmm ... I forget ... what is a hooker??? I think she crochets some...
  19. Thanks for all the advise.... both keys are black and perform all Key functions and the new one locks/unlocks doors and trunk. for me $200 was a bargain. Sewell also pulled up the history from 6 miles to the 77K, it has been dealer serviced in Tulsa from day one and the carfax backed this up. happy campers....... but you know what??? it dosent run any better/quieter/smoother than my high mileage 97's but my sister-in-law (widow lady) is pleased. oh, anyone 60 or more looking for a wife?? (she's a looker for 60+)
  20. Went to Sewell, they sold me a key with remote, cut it, programed it washed the car and charged me 212.47... total. I left feeling good. End of Story... as Satchmo said in High Society here it is, $10600, 77K miles
  21. Vehicle Stability Control is what keeps geezers like you and me from sliding off the road in bad weather: http://video.yahoo.com/watch/206114/689691 thanks, great video..
  22. Billy would be overwelmed by the technology in the 2000 LS. ;) "VSC? We don't need no stinking VSC!" I already am overwelmed...... and what is VSC? (I know I shouldnt ask)
  23. its a black head, does everything except no buttons
