  1. Edgar, that is like me saying"when I lift my glass like this, my tea spills"... WHY? we need more info to be able to comment.... Have you done a search "my tranny wont shift" ???? or some such?
  2. whoever your helper is, have them put their foot on the brake,FIRM, put it in drive and give it a LITTLE gas, (dont rev it up) and see if the engine jumps, then put it in reverse, and do the same, it should only move a little bit each way. I have used this method for 50 years.. just dont try it by yourself, even with the emergency brake on...... warning.
  3. tranny is a 30 minute, 35$ job... do it first... but after 14 years? maybe engine mounts too
  4. Thanks Steve & VB, probably a lot of us would start like VB did and might have ruined the light (some of US are hard headed- no light will conquer me)... SO, I have filed this away if mine ever burn out..... by the way, how do the lexus bulbs last so long???? amazing
  5. will this help? 1st gen and 2nd gen...( the strut rods are different) comp1.pdf
  6. I done it myself, Simple? it was just work...... all work is hard when you are almost 78!!!.... twisted off 3 studs.
  7. wow cB, thanks I did not know that, but will file it away for future reference. and again thanks, I hope this helps lane find his trouble.
  8. I copied these photos from our forum, have not done this, but wanted to keep them just in case.. hope it helps you
  9. go here to download it, my attempt to send it to you failed. http://home.student....gombertm/lexus/ Billy, Read your PMs! I sent you a link at 8:30 am this morning telling you where you can download the 98-00 LS400 repair manual from: http://home.student....gombertm/lexus/ Don't know how long it will be there. The same ZIP file has been passed around for several years. The ZIP file is over 20 megabytes which is well above the maximum attachment size of many email services -- downloading it may be your best shot.
  10. the PDF from my 98-2000 manual: this was copied from Club Lexus: I have a 96 and just had that same code (PO770) . Fortunately for me I was able to replace all four solenoids from a junk yard transmission. I dropped the pan only to discover NO magnets on bottom of pan and filter was dirty (I'm assuming from metal particles recirculating in tranny). Bought new magnets from radio shack, new filter, toyota type IV atf, replaced all four solenoids, problem solved. Silky smooth shifting. I'm planning on draining again in a week or so. The solenoid that is circled in the above pic is the correct solenoid "E". I changed all 4 considering the no magnet situation. Good luck. _Automatic Transmission.pdf
  11. Hi Paul, seems like I have met you somewhere, not sure but you look familiar. have a great day..
  12. I dont know if anything like this will help, but check it out: http://www.toyodiy.c...EPGKA_3512.html ALSO PO500 http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=36474
  13. I copied this from club Lexus; http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls400/612855-transmission-solenoid.html see if it helps you...
  14. run a scanner on it and get the codes
  15. Wow, this new LOC page looks crazy, hope it comes thru for you. Have you dropped the pan and cleaned the filter screen, if not quit playing with it and do so. let us know if it was all clogged up. if it was do it several times until you get it clean... you might luck out. also learn how to read that scanner or get professional help before you really mess it up.
  16. yes it looks nice, but my first LS was a 91 and at that time I weighed 270 and the seat was uncomfortable, so I went with Lincoln town cars. later I lost to 220 and bought a 94 and it was fine.... but then, door locks, instruments, LCD's and all the rest... I just went to the 95+ LS's.. had to buy several to get good solid cars, but I did. I like my 96 & my 99, so I will probably stay with them...
  17. I have never been where you are at, but feeling that the electrical items are fused, in my mind, I would go to a salvage yard and buy the unit under the hood, and wire it in and see where you are at that point. and go from there. or even use the relays & fuses to put in yours.... but when you remove one of yours check the terminals to see if they are burned...
  18. Oh drool.... why do you do this to us Billy??? He is about $2k too high in price but it sure looks nice. How far away is it from your location? less than 10 miles.
  19. this is not my car and I am not selling it.... just thought if someone was looking, this looks good. http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/2780859665.html the photos look new.
  20. I guess you told me!! Thank you Billy for the information. Paul, that info was for gamagin. to let him see that they listed the individual pieces, not just complete assemblies. he said his was only a cracked lens, unless I read it wrong. he said: "I only need the outside portion of that side ("someone" tapped me & broke the plexiglass). " This info also shows up at : http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_199704_LEXUS_LS400_UCF20L-AEPGKA_8111.html
  21. your problem is lack of knowledge.. Sewell sells parts to make up assemblies. If you just needed a bulb, you would not want to buy the whole assembly. or just the lense?? SO, a salvage yard or ebay or even craigslist in some areas are helpful. Sewell sells it like the below example:
  22. I put a diagram up for it
  23. I think that is: 84052 SWITCH ASSY, UN-LOCK WARNING
  24. I had a problem with my drivers door, on one of my 99's. took it apart to replace the "actuator motor" and noticed the contact points were "corroded" cleaned them up and they are still working today, one year later. the photo below is not my exact motor, but you can see the contact points and get an idea of what to look for.
  25. If you are OK with DIY the procedure is pretty straightforward. http://www.lexls.com...e/bleeding.html just follow instructions.......
