  1. It is NOT a big deal on 90-97 engines, 98 & up YES... on the CAM seals (for old pros only). not the crank seal. with the belt off, the two cam pulleys have to be removed (one bolt each) and you will need a puller to remove the crank pulley, then the seals are in plain site.. So, less than an hour to do it.. And there is no risk for us, we dont turn the cams more then a quarter turn and then just move them back to position (look at the driver side cam, it moved from 11 o'clock down to about 8 o'clock - just barely see the white alignment mark showing) and the second pic shows it turned back to position: good luck..
  2. The hard part is taking nearly everything back down to get to them. you can remove them with an ice pick or skinny screwdriver, and just tap them back in.. Cam seal from ITM Engine Components.15-01526 2 per engine, priced each 2.57 Timing cover seal (crank front) 15-01524 1 per engine 2.57 90 thru 97 all 4.0 Lexus engines I cant tell you where I got mine on here (PD gets after me) but email me at billydpowell@hotmail.com and I will tell you. I have done 5 of these with out failure. good luck..
  3. that is true, I was not judging YOU, just giving my opinion on the situation. knowing this operation, I would not even consider a TB/WP job without new seals, and as such I think everyone should do the same... that is just me. that is why I said "I am thinking YOU should have requested the 3 seals be replaced" I was not passing final judgement on you, but trying to help others, that is why I said "and maybe through your tuff luck, others on this site will learn to do it all the first time.." If I offended you, I am truly sorry..
  4. when my 96 flashed it, I bought 2 02's out of a wrecked 96 for 50$ put them in and it is done... no more light.
  5. I dont see the OP as a regular owner, he has been a member here for 4 years, and has 39 postings, so he must know something...... but anyway - whatever.
  6. I am thinking YOU should have requested the 3 seals be replaced, they are so cheap.. plus put on a new belt ... and maybe through your tuff luck, others on this site will learn to do it all the first time...

  8. Just a friendly note: ALL auto tranny's are designed to operate under "pressure", or torque, if you will.. and they have no real brains.. so if they go from 0 to 149 you have a good one, and dont worry about what they do when they are "floating". just enjoy them.
  9. I am happy to say, in all my 78 years, I have never had that happen to me... but follow their instructions, and have the rotors resurfaced, even one from the JYard. NOTE: why WHY why did you wait a week, until you really damaged something before taking some action.. and in the future, when your "car" is not acting "right", look into it, find it and fix it... sorry, that fatherly advise just comes out... sometimes..
  10. "strut rod bushings" returned 78 results replacing "strut rod bushings" returned 126 results do a search and read.
  11. yes you can do it, you have to "press" the old bushing out, before you can press the new one in. VISE?? if you have one that will open wide enough..... (I doubt it) read the SRB tutorials about your alignment BEFORE you start. dont just ask questions, search and read first, then ask..... good luck..
  12. as far as I know: YES I have never had one of these apart to know any other answer.
  13. instructions are included, just scroll.. Door.pdf
  14. you cant go wrong using OEM/aisin. be sure you replace the 3 seals (cam & crank) with pump, belt & bearings. dont cheap out here, you just do it once every 100k.
  15. well ... twodogslexus ... did you figure it out??
  16. just read the VERY FIRST post above: Instrument cluster clock/climate control
  17. WHY? have you not said anything about what codes it is showing... you need an ODB 2 code reader...
  18. Well I have a 16 year old and I feel for you.. A couple of times (not close together) I have went to start, and it cranked longer than normal, and when it did catch and started, it ran very rough, until I reved it up a couple of times to burn all the excess fuel it had pumped into the engine. after that I drove off normally... probably the same for you, just flooded itself and would not start and after the fuel evaporated it started ok. so, I didnt worry about mine and I wouldnt worry about yours, unless it starts a pattern....of failure..
  19. It always helps to state your year model, or at least fill out your profile so we will know what you are driving, but, welcome to the club.... we need more info to help ypu.
  20. Here are some pages form the repair manual for "check engine" light problems: Here's some extra info: MOMENTARY INTERRUPTION During diagnosis, if Codes 13, 22, 24, 41 or 47 are stored in ECU memory and no trouble can be found with these circuits, it will be necessary to perform a momentary interruption test. 1) Clear codes from ECU memory. See CLEARING CODES in this article. With ignition off, connect a jumper wire between terminals E1 and TE1 of TDCL connector. 2) Start engine. Ensure CHECK engine light goes out. Pull lightly on wires and apply vibration to connectors and relays associated with diagnostic codes. 3) During this test if CHECK engine light illuminates, it indicates which connector or where in the wire harness there is a fault. Repair as necessary. 4) Clear diagnostic codes. Start engine. If CHECK engine light does not go out, check thoroughly for faulty connections. Perform MOMENTARY INTERRUPTION LS400 test again. If CHECK engine light still will not go out, see LS400 CONTROL UNIT in I - SYSTEM/COMP TESTS article. more later Looks like the problem was caused by the timing belt jumping a tooth on one cam. Replaced the timing belt (& water pump while I was in there) and the engine runs great again
  21. check this link: http://us.lexusowner...showtopic=27220 http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=32858
  22. no, no, and no. 98 and up. mine fell apart also but I was able to find all the pieces in the car and reuse them... there is a thread on this with photos, search it out.
  23. actually you can balance a square or a triangle, but you would not want to drive on one.... did they take the dunlop and put it on the wheel that is giving you trouble? or balance it on the rim it was on? my question is I think your wheel is probably out of round... not just the tire.
