  1. Hey ACF, Congrads on getting your money back from the dealership. Can you do me a huge favor and run a carfax on my vin as well? JT8bh28fxx0150860. E-Mail vevro@earthlink.net. Thanks
  2. Patco and everyone else, In New York there is a group of spammers, who collect email addresses through such means. Spammers post car ads with unbelievable low prices and people thinking they found the ultimate bargain send email inquires. The ads are typically for luxury cars like the 1999 LS400 Patco saw. I've seen ads for Bimmers and Benzs with ridiculously low prices. The funny thing is that they all have 50,000 miles on the odometer and have reply emails like this "1999LexusLS400@Yahoo.com" (the email always specifies the specs of the car.) Patco i'm sure you'll ultimately get a reply for this guy but not with regards to the 99 LS400. Be on the look out for these ads and don't provide spammers with your email address!!!
  3. I'm 24 and i'm a Lexus addict.
  4. Alright I just finished downloading all repair diagrams and procedures from http://techinfo.lexus.com/. The entire manual for only $10 bucks. If anyone needs any diagrams or procedures for third generation LS, don't hesitate to ask.
  5. Alright, that's nice to hear VMF. $25 bucks thats more like it. I'll buy it on monday from work, where i'll be able to print everything out. It seems Alldata doesn't provide CDs yet but will in the near future. Thank you for your help everyone. Can someone also point to a website where i can buy discounted OEM parts? I'm planning to do some DIY in the next coming weeks and don't want to buy the parts from the dealership.
  6. Thanks guys. Well that's disapointing; I was ready to buy the CD. What about alldata.com? It seems the subscription is only $25 for a CD with repair procedures and other diagnostic information. Has anyone tried their products? Or should I stop wasting my time and just buy the OEM repair manual?
  7. I was looking to buy a repair manual on Ebay for my 99 LS and came across two versions of it. The hard copy (2 volumes) costs around $150 while the CD version is only $10. Has anyone used the CD version of the repair manual? What are the differences between the two?
  8. That's a beautiful sight...Capitalism at its best...Soon we'll be seeing Lexus cars on the hills of Afghanistan and the Iraqi desert.
  9. Congratulations on your purchase rvgraham! I've got a 99 as well and have the same problem with LCD pixels, roughly four pixels burned out already. I will probably wait till half of them disappear before replacing. I have over 110,000 miles on mine now and to date no major service done to it. Contemplating to change the timing belt before the winter starts this year. Yours only has 50,000 miles, i wouldn't worry too much about any potential repairs. Enjoy the car and don't forget to change the oil occasionally.
  10. Since my graduation in 01, i've been working as an analyst at a brokerage house. Don't particularly enjoy the job. Lately have been thinking of applying to a graduate school.
  11. My mechanic says you'd need a Phd to fix an Audi. Beside if you want to upgrade to a better car and you have $15 thousand, just buy a 98 LS400.
  12. Hi All, I know this topic has been discused many times before but i haven't found any information as to what tools i will need to help me get the job done. My car recently crossed over 100K and i feel it's time to change the timing belt, v-belt, water pump (maybe not after inspection) and tensioner. I'm planning to tackle the job myself with some help from my father, who used to be a mechanic for 20 years, some 10 years ago. I was hoping you can provide me with the diagrams and a list of tools that will help me. Would i also need to flush the cooling system if i change the water pump? <_<
  13. Well, reached out to Wald USA today and they've informed me that style D23 starts at 19x8.5, which may cause some rubbing. Can someone shed some light into using 19 inch wheels on 99 LS400?
  14. Thanks 93LSOwner. I think I found the manufacturer. It's called Wald, some Japanese company. And the style is D23. Wald specializes in custom wheels for Mercedes S class. It seems the S class shares similar fitments as my 99 LS400. Mr. Sypher can you please confirm if the below wheel is indeed Wald's D23 style? If they are, can you provide me with aproximate prices? I'm looking for 18x8 for the front and 18x8.5 for the back. I think this is the actual wheel.
  15. I really like the wheels on the below car, but i have no idea what brand they. If someone recognizes them, can you please tell me what brand they are?
  16. "Rallye service" specializes in the following models: Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Acura and Maybach. If you feel comfortable paying the same prices Maybach drivers pay for service than all the power to you. Rallye is the best but also among the most expensive in the Tristate area, $95 an hour for labor. I've used their autobody shop on Glenn Cove road twice, but i didn't care how much it cost since insurance company picked up the tab.

    Gas Prices

Gas prices are insane lately. I fill up my car twice a week at $35. What I’ve noticed in New York as that the gas stations run out of the lowest octane (87) very quickly. It seems a lot of people have stopped buying premium octane and switched to lower. VMF you should drive through Queens and fill up here, prices on the LIE are at least 10-15 cents cheaper. A gas station by my house is known to be the cheapest in New York City, premium $2.29.
  18. You should be able to find the below style on Ebay for $1,000 (4 wheels). I've been thinking of buying the same but i don't think they will look as good on my 99 LS as they do on the 01-04 models.
  19. I think those guys were a little misinformed. You should never wash your entire car with baking soda. It should only be applied on trim pieces, lights, wheels and windshield wipers. But nowhere near any paint. I've tried it once on my wheels, didn't notice any significant difference than compared with Eagle One (maybe only cheaper).
  20. This idea is really beginning to gain momentum. I was driving in to work today and all radio stations were advising their listeners in New York not buy any gas on Wednesday. The only problem with this in my view is we'll have ridiculously long lines at the pumps Thursday morning.
  21. I've recently sold a car through craigslist.com. Craigslist has a Seattle community. Give it a shot, it's free anyway. http://seattle.craigslist.org/
  22. Wandawoods, No, don't get me wrong, I like Ebay myself. However you should be very careful with cars from ebay, especially since most of them are dealer cars. Most of these dealers make a very small spread when they buy cars from auctions and push them through on ebay, they don't always check or inspect them. A lot of times i see vehicles on ebay with auction labeling on the windshields. Personally, i bought my car locally for $17,200, 84k miles. I would strongly suggest you should shop around before making a firm decision, especially if you have access to other cars at the time.
  23. Caprice versus Lexus?? My father used to own 86 Caprice Classic, the car was a tank, it accelerated worst than a tank and toped out at 60 mph. Don't compare a donkey with a stallion.
  24. I don't think you should rush into buying a car like this. Buying a vehicle based on pictures and someone else's opinions is totally idiotic, unless you are buying a brand new vehicle covered under warranty. In either case, if i'd had to choose between a 97 and 98, i would definatelly buy the 98 or better yet a 99. Search for a 99 between $17-18 thousand, you should be able to find it. The 98-00 LS400s were the absolute best vehicles produced in the late 90s. Also, i don't know how important packages are to you but Nakamichi system and wood trims are great to have.
