  1. You could pan drain the tranny and add a couple fresh quarts Toyota type IV and Change your diffy fluid -- 80-90W GL-5 gear lube. that'll cost you about $30 total if you DIY
  2. definately a good looking, classic machine!!! Linux, How's tthat PS fluid (leak?) holding up.........??
  3. Happs, 2000 LS is a very good Gen III vehicle....... I think the LS does bring a little more of a premium price. Like 1990LS stated, its just a little high - but then it may be in PERFECT condition.....40K miles if very low and that's what your paying for. I too, passed on the nav. I thought it was a little to much like the old "pong" video game. It is more valuable to traveling sales calls, esp. in big cities.... You will LOVE the ls compared to the acura RL - there is no contest!
  4. I take it to Autozone O'Reilly's Advance Auto etc........ Car part places let you dump it there.............
  5. the change out / replacement procedure should be the same...... Same engine, etc.......
  6. redhawks2, take a look on this first page - its right in front of you..........
  7. hughes........ Yes, likely the problem is in the harness or pinched elec. wire near the trunk hinge...this has happened more than once here on LOC. On the tranny jerk - have you kept the tranny fluid serviced and clean???
  8. Lexxdogg, Check the underside of your oil cap when you take it off.........if its got a brownish, milkish white film on it- you have a broken head gasket. Otherwise, check you plastic reservoir for leaks/cracks as these have been common.
  9. I've used Amsoil ever since I got my LS in June/03. I think it is good oil - as good as Mobil 1. And perhaps more durable as ebridges commented. I change it every 6-7 K. I believe it is superior to any dino oil.....
  10. My 99 soaks up the bumps pretty well - no complaints...... I think if your struts are original, they would be a culprit by now as you mention your "bottoming out".
  11. Well done bob.......... It's in the books for me too!!!
  12. bob, thanks for the report - job well done! Like you say, it pays to DIY. I'll cut n paste this to a MS word file for reference. Can I get some more info? cost of mounts length of time In the procedure, would it be better to do tranny mount first? - or does it matter? Anything else you'd do different? Go buy yourself a nice big steak - you saved nice $$$
  13. check your tranny fluid level....... if you don't know how - stop buy a full service gas station and let them do it. Look @ the fluid. It should be clean, translucent reddish color - if its brownish, darkish and smells burnt you need a tranny drain/flush immediately. The sound can also come from the differential case in the back - it probably need new gear oil.........
  14. Yes - std on the LS Its call an "air control valve" and located on the uderside of the ps vane pump. It's got a couple of "Horns" on it that the vacuum tubes run out of........ This has been a common culprit for PS leaks - but easily replaceable. About a $90 part.
  15. I think---- Zdeno replaced his shocks without removing the seats....... Also, jzz30 replaced ALL of his suspension so He has experience.... I'm sure these guys and other gurus will help you for sure!!
  16. ucf3- Excellent point on the fluid! It could be the wrong stuff ;) Do not use fluid labelled "power steering fluid"......check the owners manual!! It probably uses Dex III tranny fluid - which holds up better and is from factory I think someone did a PS flush once and put the wrong fluid back in and causes similar problems.............flushed it out with Dex III and was much better. I imagine you'll need to run 3-5 quarts thru the system to get it cleaned out. Check out a thread search on "PS flush procedure" by K9Crew.......it's got the details.
  17. 90ls, I see you're selling the LS......good move I suppose. I know you've been fighting with repairs on that beast for a long time.... Let her go and good luck!! A hard decision - but the right one financially :cries:
  18. Make sure PS fluid is full and: you need to clean the PS solenoid screen for starters - do a thread search on this.... Then " Bleed" the PS system; raise front wheels off ground and turn steering wheel lock to lock several times with PS reservoir cap on LOOSELY. then start car and leave on idle and repeat above. turn off car and tighten PS cap. Make sure the Serpentine belt is sufficiently snug...should be.
  19. Agree with you VB!! I'm so tired of those STS commercials from the Olympics.........glad its over
  20. this is normal...... you only loose your seat/mirror, etc presets. I had to change my battery last fall; I expected the radio to loose all the presets - but they did not. A nice deal
  21. Aholda, I think your 99 corolla is a superior vehicle in terms of maintenance cost, and that 95ls400bob is correct in his evaluation - you need to be able to work on these vechicles DIY or they will eat you alive. I mean, a $6k purchase for the LS is good, but you take it to a dealer and they'll find another $6k (minimum) in maintenace. These are reliable, yet expensive cars - they are expensive to maintain unless DIY. Powerful, quiet, smooth, and full of class is why we have them
  22. Silver, Just go for an 04 LS 430........you'll get the extra power then!!
  23. Dittos on the above posts...... I put a new battery in my 99 last fall - about 5 months after I got in in June 03 - lost the seat memory but radio was unaffected.......
