  1. THI, I have a 99 ls400 and just changed my Diff. Fluid yesterday. Just like the 450, the manual said: 90W or 80-90W for below 0. I live in KC area and wanted to use full synthetic so I put in CASTROL 75-90W. I think it will be superior to any petroleum based fluid. Use Amsoil 5-30 Synthetic motor oil. I agree the pump is probably a better way. I had to run a clear hose from the fill plug up over the RR tire and fill that way. About 1.5 quarts. Once it started to overrun the fill hole, I let it drip to a stop and and replaced plug. Happy Driving!!
  2. I have a 99 LS (55K) and drive it easy on acceleration. Live in the Kansas City Area so my city driving includes some highway - certainly a different environment than Brooklyn! Everyday driving I get 22 mpg. Only one highway trip but I did get about 27 / 28 mpg. Needless to say, I'm happy with the mileage. I'm looking to see if these numbers improve because I've: put on K&N (E2606) AIR FILTER USE 5-30 SYNTHETIC OIL USE 75-90W SYNTHETIC DIFF. OIL Was going to use synthetic tranny fluid but I change it every 10K (I'm obsessive!) and our friends at JP Imports told me at that interval the toyota T-IV is just a good. On the subject of mileage... I've noticed that the computer always gives a higher reading on the MPG than I really get. I filled up just today and the computer said "23.1 mpg" but my actual calculations of miles/gallons came up with 21.9. Do you guys have the same discrepancies? KC premium gas is at $1.65 THANKS FOR THE CLUB!
  3. just a thought on the pad sensor, Disconnect the battery and see if the computer resets. Let me know if it works. ls400guy
  4. More info on a LS400 manual: I called Toyota Publishing Direct 800-622-2033 I believe I called late on a TH or even Friday. The manual ( I got only vol 2- the main stuff, engine, transmission, cooling, brakes, differential, etc : a lot of info!) arrived on Monday following the weekend. Very fast service! I paid $10 for UPS 2-day shipping (plus the manual was $90) Anyway, I was very impressed with the fast service. I so plan on getting vol 1 (it has a maintenance chapter, but mainly service specs & diagnostics) but I may get it on CD Rom. You know; $20 versus another $100! Let me know if you have a good contact for the manual at a good price, otherwise I'll probably get a CD from ebay. good luck, ls400guy
  5. tawebb, I have a 99 LS400 Service manual so here goes..... The manual says to remove brake fluid from the master cylinder (use a new, clean syringe type or bulb) so that when you push the pistons back in there is room for the fluid to rise in the master cylinder. If the pistons are hard to move, then loosen the brake line that connects to the Piston so it can "bleed" as you push the pistons back in. There is no mention of a bleeder valve anywhere. If you really need it, I suppose I could scan the pages and email them to you so you would have the entire procedure in hard copy. Don't forget the silicone grease on the anti-squeel shims! Let men know how it worked, I will need to replace mine in about 5 -10 K miles. hope this helps, ls400guy
