  1. b4 you will buy this car go to any lexus dealership with a vin number and ask them to run a search for the car. they all connected between each other and this will help you to get the maintanece records of the car. also ask the owner for the maintancene info. if you will do regular maintanence this car will last you forever. i have a 1996 ls for 2 years and i didnt have any major problems with it. just burned bulbs, replacing brakes etc. if the condition of the car is great your maintanece costs might be lower then other cars that you owned,, so go ahead and join the club of lexus owners!
  2. this is what i do:) i cover all electrical parts with the plastic bags and then spray the bottle of gunk engine cleaner into the engine. i let it stay there for 15 mins and then spray it out with water. once i'm done doiign this i start the car and wait till it heats up and all the water evaporates. once i'm done this i spray everything udner the hood with the special transparent glossy paint and this setup lasts me for a 9-`1 month! you just have to wipe it once in a while with a towel to give it back its shiny look.
  3. if one of the struts is defective and you knew that b4 install then why did you install? you should have changed it! as to the noises, me and my friend just dropped his 99 maxima se 2 weeks ago by 2 inches and handliing really improved, but we have some noises as well. i didnt c the car or a guy for a week so i dont know what he did about them. we used tokico or smth like for both springs and struts. if its making really loud noises then you should check if any rubber covers or bushings are missing. just a thought...
  4. check your coolant level on a regular basis and smell the cloud, how does it smelll?
  5. and another one:) this is only for the first error code, so check for codes first b4 making any repairs., i really think if your check engine or track lights are off everything is ok and problem is in smth else. but check for codes anyway since sometimes codes might be in the ECM even with the lighs off.
  6. first of all if your tsp is bad you should be getting one or few of the codes p0120, p0121,or for sub tsp - p01400,p01401. CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION The throttle position sensor is mounted in the throttle body and detects the throttle valve opening angle. When the throttle valve is fully closed, the IDL contacts in the throttle position sensor are on, so the voltage at the terminal IDL1 of the ECM becomes 0 V. At this time, a voltage of 0.3 ~ 0.8 V is applied to terminal VTA1 of the ECM. When the throttle valve is opened, the IDL contacts go off and thus the power source voltage of approx. 12 V in the ECM is applied to the terminal IDL1 of the ECM. The voltage applied to the terminal VTA1 of the ECM increases in proportion to the opening angle of the throttle valve and becomes 3.2 ~ 4.9 V when the throttle valve is fully opened. The ECM judges the vehicle driving conditions from these signals input from terminals VTA1 and IDL1, and uses them as one of the conditions for deciding the air-fuel ratio correction, power increase correction and fuel-cut control etc. here is the description of the first error code
  7. p0441 bases on 2 trip detection logic so there is def smth wrong. trouble areas for this code are: 1. open or short in vsv cirquit for evap 2. vsv for evap 3. ECM. 4. vacoom hose blocked or disconnected 5. charcoal canister. let me know if u need more info
  8. checked the manual and it seems that the problem is electrical, but its a really minor problem and i will not even bother in investigating it deeper. airmix servomotors are in the working order, i guess its the climate control cirquitry having a glitch. it doesnt seem to be able to bring bigger problems later so i guess this case is closed due to consuming too much time solving while significance is low. but if i will find smth later i will update you guys:)
  9. i can only close it or open it, i think its the same in your car. plus hot air comes from the heater core into both lower and upper positions. i think it might be a computer related problem. since the mixture of cold and hot air depend on the electronic valves but once again its just a guess. i will look into the manual once i will get home
  10. hmmm, strange, i dont know how is this possible, do it couple of times, may be tool is not good
  11. but why only at at stop? where is this outside only vent?
  12. ive been driving this morning and temp outside was 23 f. i noticed the same problem with my car. my water pump is new, coolant is fresh, no leaks, no smells. but at low rps it jus freezing but only on the top. the part that blos to the legs is ok;( strange
  13. i do collect them:) but they are usually not available as kits, only as a model already. http://public.fotki.com/VMF/models/carstrucks/143/ here is my truck collection:)
  14. im out of town rite now but tomorrow during pm hours i will give u that info from the factory manual. if some1 has gen II manual they might give it to you even earlier
  15. have to agree with ya on the last one...just gave her a full car wash package and an oil change
  16. i have been thinking and i got this idea:) if a lot of people will make scale models of lexus cars i will ask Matt or Steve to create a special folder in the gallery for the models:)
  17. check the terminals, the signs that you have are of a dying battery, also ask pepboys to check the voltage when the engine is running to make sure ur alternator is ok. they should do it with (lights, ac, radio on) and without load
  18. guess what guys. i just went to the hobby store in NJ and i found 3 generations of LS I,III and iV, plus beefed up celcior model and both gens of gs, but all of them are at least 30$. but hey, for us ls lovers the most important thing is that we can build our LS car ourselves, even if they are in 1:24 scale.
  19. aoshima makes only LS, GS and IS :( i saw only those models in the stores and online:( gs is very rare
  20. i will go to the hobby store tomorrow and check what they have to offer. i saw couple of kits in ebay but they are all either gen I or gen IV, no gen II and III:( i think there are only ls, gs and is kits available, i have never seen any other kits:( might have to do em from scratch:)
  21. wow where did u you get it?
  22. when you turn the heat on without AC you windows and windshield specifically get foggy?
  23. heh, thank you guys, creating scale models is my hobby since i was 7 yrs old. swo i wanted to find that 1:18 diecast as well but i had no luck so far:( i will try to create all models of lexus cars if i will have time. next thing i'm gonna do is a scania truck with semitrailer.:) if you interested you can check out whole models folder on that site.:)
  24. i have a 1996 ls and i use mobil 1 sinthetic in it. enjoy ur ride:)
