  1. Please don't be offended but did you use new gaskets on the plenum chamber, intake manifold etc? Also connection # 2 on the injectors should be connected to the orange wire.
  2. This may help you with the layout of the ducting ( section 20 onwards covers the system) http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/g_U_1993_LEXU...L-AEPGKA_4.html If you have something loose in there it may be one of the control flaps.
  3. I don't think so mine look like standard friction material
  4. "Boot" is British for "trunk". A hood is a bonnet. I think fenders are birds. Clear as mud? The poster is saying that alot of early LS's have a problem with intermittent or broken trunk lid wiring. Causes all kinds of weird things to happen. Do a search on trunk lid wiring. Nearly right but the fender is a bumper and what you guys call brake rotors are brake discs in the UK. When I post on here I always try to translate from UK to US terminology :D
  5. If you look at the picture below it shows the position of the knock sensors ( one is labelled 2R and I think the other across and forward is 1L) as you can see it is very easy to damage them or the wiring when removing the starter motor. I did the same job this weekend fortunately it all went without problems apart from breaking a fixing clip on one of the injector plugs. BTW did you remove the inlet manifold complete with the injectors or did you separate the injectors if you did separate you will need to replace the injector O rings or you may have leaks in the induction system which may be causing the problem you now have with rough running.
  6. I have just repaired my starter motor took me about 12 hours in all ( beer breaks included!) and cost around $100.00 for the gaskets and the starter repair kit but now working fine again ( no more click click!). Contact was worn wafer thin and the plunger was very pitted. What is strange is that mine is a JDM import and for some reason has no EGR system installed ( anyone know why?) but at least I won't have the fractured EGR pipe problem
  7. Go onto ebay.com and type in LS400 LCD you will then get a selection of either rebuilt units or the display only for self fitting.
  8. I would go for genuine Lexus pads myself I fitted some non OEM pads on mine once bought on ebay and they were complete rubbish squeeling everytime I braked and the wheels were black with brake dust all the time, replaced with genuine and no problems since.
  9. Hi, Normally this would consist of changing the air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor caps and rotor arms.
  10. The lead in question is as stated by everyone else the HT lead from the coil to the distributor cap, one thing to look out for here is where it passes out of the timing belt cover where there should be a rubber grommit to protect it. Chances are this has either been misfitted or not refitted as it is a pig to do unfortunately this leads to chafing of the wire and the result you ended up with.
  11. Have a look at this link all the pictures and 2 set up proceedures dependant on what tools you have. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/tps.html
  12. Normally if a car idles OK but has poor power it is a fueling issue so check your fuel pressure, fuel pump and have you replaced the fuel filter as it may be clogged and restricting the flow.
  13. Can you not just remove the fuel pump then stick your hand into the tank and recover the fitting without removing the whole tank? I don't think leaving it in would cause any problems. How did your neighbor manage to drop this into your tank in the first place?
  14. I cannot understand why you have removed everything just to check the timing, there sre marks on the crank pulley and the cam sprockets, did you have issues with the engine before the stripdown? This link may help you http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/engine/timingbelt.html
  15. Hi, Here's the tutorial for the plug and wire change http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/ignition/sparkplugs.html
  16. I agree with Skperformance check the alternator for power steering fluid damage, repair PS pump if so ( usually reservoir O ring) then replace alternator. Or have them checked by a local autostore. Don't forget the trunk lid wiring loom problem that manifests its syptoms in many ways including flashing dash lights.
  17. Hi Welcome to the LOC, A misfire could be due to many things but go for the plugs, leads, rotor arms and distributor caps if these are due for replacement. Were the codes cleared and have they since returned? The transmission will not shift into top gear until it has warmed up so moving the shift will have no effect until then. It is not a fault but there to protect the transmission when cold, it may be that the cruise control is limited in the same way until transmission warm up. Speed sensor faults can be caused by the ABS wheel sensors on the hubs being where they are exposed to road crud can cause problems so check them and the wiring to them and clean off any dirt or metalic filings. Also check the toothed wheels for damaged teeth as these can also affect the sensor outputs. Faults in this area can affect the cruise control as well. Hopefully minor problems easily and cheaply sorted then just enjoy the LS400 experience!
  18. Hi, I assume you have checked the fluid level and the color ( should be a dark cherry red). I would pull the codes for the transmission. Have a look here. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html
  19. Hi, Most of your problems seem minor and easily sorted. 1. Radiator fluid leak. I was told awhile ago that I had a small leak and every so often I'll have my radiator light comes on. I usually just wait for it to come on and then I pour in more of my 'Toyota Red.' Try and locate the leak it may be just a hose clip but check the expansion tank as these have been known to split even a new radiator is pretty cheap if it comes to that. 2. Power steering fluid leak. Every so often I start to hear a suspicious noise when I first turn on my car and start turning my wheel as I'm driving. I just add some power steering fluid and it goes away for a couple months. There is an O ring seal on the reservoir which causes most of the problems have a look on lexls.com for more info. 3. Antenna won't go up. I hear it trying to go up/down every time I turn my car on/off. Look on Ebay.com for the rebuild kit and lexls.com for the fitting proceedure. 4. RPM gauge in dashboard doesn't work. The indicator just stays flat. I think maybe this is as simple as replacing a fuse? Could be the dash itself ( can be repaired) or the sender unit 5. Front windows struggle going up and down. I've had problems with this in the past. I'm not sure if whether there is anything stuck down there such as pine needles from a tree I used to park under, or if the electrical system is having issues. Wipe the rubber window sliders with some silicon based polish ( do not get any on the glass!) this usually improves the window action. Probably not helped by the sap from the pine needles. 6. Check engine light came on for about 10 mins about 2 months ago. Don't know if something is on its way out, or if it was simply a small, brief malfunction If it hasn't come back on don't worry about it if you want to do a diagnostic check for any stored codes relating to this follow the proceedure in the link below http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html Good luck.
  20. Hi, Do a diagnostic check on the TRAC system following the proceedure given in the link below, if you clipped a kerb you may have damaged the ABS wheel sensor or its wiring or dislodged a piece of rust from the reluctor teeth. Also if you had an underbody wash there may be water in the connectors to the ABS sensors causing problems or the water pressure may have damaged the connections or sensor. Pull the codes to assist you in locating the problem http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html
  21. Hi Welcome to the LOC, Please try searching the forum as there is loads of info on the LS400 suspension issues, seeing as you are a new member and we are nice and friendly on here I have pasted a link to start you off. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...spension+noises Cheers.
  22. Has your wife just driven past my house as my LS400 has just beeped and the doors have opened? :D
  23. Hi, Code 24 OBDI is "air intake temperature incorrect" may be worth checking the AFM. Code 78 is not listed?
  24. My LS has a manual switch for the folding door mirrors and I only tend to move the mirrors in when I am parked in town where there is a chance of them being hit by a passing vehicle, at home on the driveway I leave them out. My car is now 15 years old and they still work fine so I don't think they have any reliability problems.
  25. Does the brake pedal "firm up" if you pump it a few times?
