  1. Hello Do your 90k as soon as possible $6,000.00 if engine breaks, do not push the car until you do. The main thing is to replace the seals and timing belt, water pump, after that you are homefree. Also Engine Oil, Tranny Oil and differential oil are parts of the 90,000 mile inspection. Might want to change sparks also, and check the suspension, which could have worn bushings leaks in the rack also. After that you will run and run and run. CPR
  2. Hello: You can go to Builders Square or Home Depot and buy a carbon activated ac filter and cut it to specifications use duct tape and presto you are are ready. CPR
  3. After you check all that, wipe it clean, may just be residual oil when they did the change, if so, it should dry up quick. The other friend that has a valve cover leak, try tightening evenly in a cross pattern the valve cover it might work, it has for mine and adding a little no leak oil sealant makes wonders for seals. CPR
  4. Check for a blown fuse. If not that take it to an electromechanic. Probably also a bad atuator or something disconected. You could follow the mechanisim and see what you can coome up with. CPR
  5. You should check the oil pressure with a manual gauge. I suspect a bad oil sending unit. If it were your oil pump, you would have no engine by this time. An oil starved engine would seize quickly. CPR
  6. I would change the Thermostat, I had a similar problem with a Supra and it turned out to be the thermostat. Second the AC/fan relay needs to be checked and the secondary fan also, and I agree with you in a radiator cleaning. The action of cleaning the outside radiator did not yield any result it means it is either thermostat, electric/secondary fan problem or in the failing of the later radiator clogged. Last I would check the bottom hose because sometimes the wire it has colapses and does not let the water circulate in a proper manner. Reminder the coolant should be replaced every 30,000 as per dealer/manufacturer with the OEM fluid which is best for this type of car. CPR
  7. Hello: You have a problem with an electrical system, since you were able to regain control of the car. I had a problem like that and it was the mass-airflow sensor. Try cleaning that up. Get the codes they will pinpoint exactly what the problem is. You can also go to the Lexus dealer have them diagnose and they take it for the actual work to an independent which would charge much less. CPR
  8. It is well maintained, good milieage but face it, the car is 8 years old. The only thing is if you love it, if you do, go for it, if not then get one newer or negotiate on the price it should be around 13,000, a good price. My opinion only, CPR
  9. The attachment below should help you get acquainted with the abbreviations used. in_37.pdf
  10. Check if your secondary fan is working if it is an electric fan it may need to be replaced or the fan relay may be bad. If the fan is working and your temp is going up I would replace the Thermostat, maybe it is sticking at high temps and the system shuts down to protect itself which can happen the same if it is low or too high on gas. But also do check what the others said also. CPR
  11. I would check then in the Throtle Body area, clean all that up, if it persists, you may have to replace a sensor somewhere, since it comes and goes it seems to indicate its an electromechanical problem. Or a wore parts in the fuel linkage system. Place the scanner and see what it says. It it does not point to any component then it is something mechanical or loose in the linkages. C
  12. If I were you I would not buy one with air suspension unless it is new or with less than 10,000 miles on it. Secondly I personally would not buy a 2001 model, unless it had very low miles. That is the model year that has the most TSB's from its generation. I would buy a 1998-2000 2002-2003 2005-6 and so far the 2007 seems to be ok also. I know some people will critizice me but it is my honest opinion and it is well documented in the TSB's. Even the 2001 and 2004 are reliable, but they came with some problems the others did not have and as everyone knows when it is time to pay for parts and repairs they are not cheap, even as they are extremely well made to last longer than expected from other brands. CPR
  13. I had the same problem with a Nissan Murano 2003, result, broken radiator, cause bad radiator cap that did not open at the prescribed pressure. Solution bought a new cap 6-9 bucks no more problem no more coolant evaporation. It is even a TSB on the radiator cap for that year model. You can even buy the Stent, Stant brand which for Nisan cars in America are OEM. Advance sells them pretty cheap, mine has about 3 years with no problem. Usually the gasket engrosses not permitting the pressure flow as engineered to happen. You notice when you refill coolant and it evaporates with no leaks. Second if your thermostat is older than seven years I would also think about replacing it. I had a Supra 87 and it would overheat at high speeds above 70, changed lower hose, coolant, radiator flushed and even the electric fan and the problem persisted changed the thermostat problem resolved. I bought it at the dealer. A buddy of mine owns the car never heard no problem with the thermostat. Caps are OK to buy in advance, thermostat I would only buy OEM, they last 3 times longer and are more reliable.
  14. I have a 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix, at this time I cannot remember the filter numbers, but I had put on two different filters, one is bigger than the other, the car has been running fine with both of them. The bigger one is easier to pull out since in that application you have restricted space if you use the smaller one. The engine fine thank you after almost 18 years and no rebuild, no new valve O-ring, pistons etc. I wood use the bigger filter on a Lex, even as the smaller one would make no difference since neither of them change the direction or restricts the flow of oil. CPR
  15. Make sure your air filter is clean also. If it is a K & N type have it clean at once, if is a paper element and has more than a year or it is very dirty change it too. CPR
  16. Before you go buy a new Maf Try Cleaning it up with electronics cleaner. Google it and you will find out how. But is as easy as taking the maf out two screws and take it out of the plastic and clean everything with metal and contacts. The filament, and the connector in the harness. In the UK forums there is tuttorials. Maybe there is one at www.lexls.com. Advance Auto sell them cheaper and rebuilts, but usually you do not need one if cleaned. The Electronics Part Cleaner is better because it lets you clean both parts the part and the electrical harness. C.PR
  17. What does the Federal Emissions Enhancement Warranty cover for 1996-1998 model vehicles? 18. I would say a Cosmopolitan, if well prepared, if not available a good glass of PR Rum, Bacardi Lemon, with Coca Cola.
  19. I have used 303 protectant in all surfaces that people would normally use products like Armor All. With great results, that includes the wood matte surfaces and the shining ones either plastic or leather. I have even used it on the leather seats with no problems. But everyone has its book. I agree is not suitable for painted surfaces, and before using it on your leather seats do a test in a place where no one can see, but my results have been most satisfactory. I find there is no other product that I know off that can protect against UV rays in the market. You can find the product in the net, search with google and in the boating shops like West Marine. Please correct me if I am wrong but the wood in the Lexus is imitation as well as other places in the interior that simulate leather, but part of the doors and seats are leather, I read this in the owners manual. CPR
  20. Well, maybe your pump is just a little tired. Flush and fill the pump to proper level. Make sure there is no air in the system. With the car running loosen the cap a little while cycling the steering the retighten again. You could also clean the rack solenoid screen. If nothing else works you could buy a new pump or rebuild the old one. www.lexls.com has a tutorial on most of the subjects. CPR
  21. Check out the ES LS forums. C
  22. I think your problem also lies withing the electronics of the EGR as well as the Oxygen sensors may be due to be changed. I think you would need a pro to tackle the issues. CPR
  23. It has to be in the passenger side of the motor. It would look like a box or round shaped object measuring about one foot more or less. It will have some quick opening tabs, after those tabs you will see a square box with a plug that would be your maf sensor and the tubing it to go inside the engine. Also check the owners manual it may have a diagram of the servicing points. Go to Irontoad.com or to your local auto parts store and see what one filter looks like, or in the dealer when you go to buy the filter they will show you the diagram of where it is at. CPR
  24. I agree you could also go to a good Toyota dealer and see what they say. Go to a place that has a lot of business, in other words a place where they may not be scraping for money. A place that would tell you that they cannot take your car because they have too much work. You could also go to a mechanic school and have them look at it for free. C. PR
  25. The cable is located in the trunk on the passenger side of the vehicle. CPR
