  1. LOL That's not bad! I love all of the different versions of the song. Here's a New Orleans version (you really need the cd for the full effect.): K&B...this song is old! Too, just about all of the other businesses they mention went out of business several years ago! They had a little video that went along with this that was just hysterical...as each verse passed, the guy with the six pack'a Dixie got more and more drunk! It was great
  2. 95-98s are non interference too. ;) The 3vzfe was only in the 92-93. '94-'03 ESs have the 1MZ-FE, and I believe VVTi came in '99. Steviej has a clever way of remembering which engines are interference and which ones aren't, "the "i" in "VVTi" stands for interference!" B)
  3. All you need to do is wedge your fingers under the brake light cover, slightly lift it up, and then, pull it towards the front of the car. It should come right out.
  4. LOL Jimmy Buffett I could live at his Margaritaville in Jamaca! B) I don't know if moving south is a sure shot, last December we had snow in New Orleans, not much though! :o Our wonderful State Police department's solution was to shut every major interstate and hwy down, and with a city that's divided by a river, a lot of people got screwed.
  5. I think the first question is what do you want to do as far as a career goes? What are you going to get a masters in? 3 out of the 5 people in my family are engineers (mechanical and engineering), and my head hurts just thinking about the classes they had/have to take...a series of calculus, tons of physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, design projects, and the list goes on! Personally, I would pass on engineering if you are uncomfortable with math.
  6. JC, I used all OEM parts when I changed my belt that I ordered from discount Lexus dealers in Texas and Pennsylvania. I think all together I spent around $300 for all the parts and fluids (belt, tensioner, water pump, pullies, coolant, distilled water, and a few other misc things). I bought my car used; the previous owner told me when he had the belt last changed which he said was around 110k miles (I changed it at 233k). Whoever the prev owner paid to change the timing belt wasn't all that knowledgeable because they put green coolant in. :chairshot: Here's some more info and pics: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...st=0#entry79398
  7. Of course I tower over you, you're like 5'4! lmao j/k I can most certainly fit in an Excursion, pretty comfortably too(those are one of my favorite suvs since they are rediculously large, and they offer the powerstroke diesel!).
  8. Make sure you change the tensioner, 2 idler pullies, crank seal, and cam seals too-just a lot of little preventative things to do since the water pump/timing belt/etc. are so tough to get to. When I changed my timing belt, it looked like it was new eventhough it had roughly 120k miles on it. I've read that they can go up to 200k or more; I never really believed it until I saw how good mine looked with about half the mileage. $800 is really cheap for a Lexus dealer! ;)
  9. Wow, the interior is amazing (eventhough they got a little overzealous with the folds in the leather.)! And, the outside isn't bad either. I'd buy that over a Rav anyday (hypothetically speaking since I'd buy a big, gas/diesel guzzling, American suv if I was SUV shopping! lol B))!
  10. The navi is bolted in. After you remove the wood trim around the shifter and the 2 a/c vents, you should see bolts at the top (that were hidden behind the a/c vents) of the nav and a couple more at the bottom (that were hidden by the wood. My '95 has 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom, but I don't have nav.). Here is a tutorial of the removal on a '97 to help show where those bolts are that I'm talking about: http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusLS400str1.htm Your car should be pretty similar. ;)
  11. I'm just stating the factory repair manual's procedure to check them! ;)
  12. Welcome The wood trim just pops out, use a small, heavily taped flat-head screw driver (shift to low gear, unplug the connectors for the cig lighter, heated seats, and vsc, and it'll come right out on less than a minute!). The a/c vents also need to come out; they also are just snapped in. The a/c vents are very, very fragile, so be careful! ;)
  13. There should be 11-16 ohms of resistance between the two terminals on the o2 sensor harness. ;) Chances are that they're ok if the cel is off!
  14. I read a lot of great things about Blizzaks. There is a lot of info in this forum as well as the tire forum. ;)
  15. Yeah, Steve is right! I would be a very bad reference for AS. I started a thread in the ES forum about it. How's this for a color match: :chairshot: :chairshot: This is actually embaressing on my part since I should have mailed it back to them the second I opened the box. Here's the thread: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...topic=16648&hl=
  16. That's the set I have, and I'm 150% satisfied, you'll love it. It's really more than what you'll need for simple DIY stuff since a good 90+% of the bolts and screws on this car are 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, or philips head screw.
  17. LOL The scarifices we make to drive such a fine auto (I don't know if I can keep going much longer though)!?!?! Robert, this is fantastic news!!! I'm sure she's going to feel like a new car when she comes back! You really deserve the smooth ride after all of the work you've put in to the car!!
  18. LOL Completely disassemble your interior, and tell me the insides of a LS400 aren't chock full of insulation. The glove box has a big piece of insulation on the back of it just as an example in addition to just about all trim pieces, under the top and bottom portions of the back seats, thick carpets with tons of insulation, insulation in the trunk and hood areas, etc., etc...I don't think you'll find something like that on your typical GM or Dodge product. While I can't agree that the 4.0 is a true gas guzzler, I do think the hwy mileage could be way better than what it is since (80mph is good for over 2,500 rpms, that seems a little agressive.). It just kills me to ride in any American car that is going 80 on the hwy, and it spins close to 1,000 less rpms than the Lexus does at the same speed.
  19. Mine mutes the stereo; I'm glad mine doesn't slow the ac since it would get hot!...and Lexus ac doesn't blow hard enough to create a noise disturbance. My cradle is mounted beside the stereo (since it is easy to dial out, and I can see the caller id.), but you can mount them anywhere you want even in the console so that it doesn't take away from the look of the center stack like the OE setup. Or, if you have a bluetooth phone, you don't have to mount a cradle. My old ES300 has the Lexus phone, and the sound quality (just from listening to the operator since they don't work) isn't that improved over the Nokia car phone I have. My Nokia speaker is loud and clear, and I have no complaints with the mic either. I just don't see the point in disentangling the schematics to get an old cell phone working again when an aftermarket car phone works just as well...different strokes for different folks I suppose.
  20. Yes, probably. But my opinion is "why bother". ← I know!! I don't know what the fascination is with the Lexus phone. You taught us how to adapt the most useful feature of the Lexus phone to non Lexus car phone kits which is the auto-mute. The kits are easy to install, and I'm sure they work just as well as the Lexus one or better, so why bother...indeed!!
  21. Here are your options: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/repairmanual.html Welcome to the club!
  22. I'm pretty sure that's a press photo since I've seen it in books and magazines before! I doubt anyone's '90 still looks like that after 15+ years of service! ;)
  23. Daffy, Grand, and all of you other guys that posted about the slower burn speed just made my day!!!! I had some cds that were not working in my cd player (some would play static and some wouldn't play at all.). So, I figured I would try reburning them at a slower speed since so many members recommended it (I did 4x instead of 24x). Sure enough, those cd's work perfectly now!!! Thanks guys!! I have no problems downloading and burning music with iTunes on my PC. True, the music downloads are locked in to iTunes, but all you have to do is burn it to a cd and rip it, and you can do with it as you please. It's well worth that extra step since you can find almost any song on iTunes, and it's cheap.
  24. Oh yeah I replaced them like a month or two after I go the car. $500 at a junkyard for the seat, steering wheel, and console, and my interior looks brand new!!! It's a much better looking picture than that other one, but the passenger seat isn't completely visible! ;)
  25. You have to scrub, and depending on how dirty your seats are will depend on how much pressure you'll need to apply (it's not a wipe on wipe off type thing! ;) ). I had to scrub with a lot of pressure on the eraser since my seats were soooo dirty (if you apply too much pressure you will know too since the dye will come off the leather! lol), and the results were amazing!! Here's a shot.... Before: After (the seat and console were replaced a long time ago): Pretty cool, huh?!?! It removed dirt and that stain on the seat which I guess was coke. The dirt in the folds of the leather does come out; you just gotta scrub! I use Lexol's leather conditioner. I also spent $80 on a Leatherique package because of all the high praises that these products tout all over the inernet, and much to my suprise, their products did just about nothing for my upholstry (eventhough I followed their instructions and used several applications.). The leatherique results were no better than what I got form a cheap bottle of Lexol. I find that less is more when applying Lexol. Good luck!
