  1. The ECU in my '95 was changed in 1997 when the car had only 48k miles. The Service Manager who was giving me my car's service history over the phone today said that the owner brought it in with a complaint of a cold start problem. They ended up tracking the problem to the ECU, and replaced it with the revised ECU--problem solved. Has anyone else had their ECU cause trouble as early as 2 years and 48,000 miles? That seems rather premature. <_<
  2. I think it could. The ES300 that I had before the LS had EGR problems, and it was a snail (well more of a snail than usual. LOL) when the EGR was out of whack. I would not pull out in to heavy traffic because I knew the car wouldn't be able to keep up--it was very slow and shifted erratically. I certainly think it would be worth while to have the egr system checked.I know there is a different egr pipe design between GenI and II, but my car has a cracked egr pipe, and it accelerates as it should only louder than normal.
  3. I agree. My ES was still throwing an excessive flow code after replacing the egr valve. It turns out that the VSV was not working. Make sure to check the VSV before you replace it (for something like $60 or $70, and it's a quick and easy replacement.).
  4. It's not stupid if you find the right deal. I bought all 4 shocks for my LS from Sewell (lexus-parts.com) for $280. :D
  5. That's true! It's just like cable TV in your home. You don't need it, and you can't choose the shows that you want to come on at a specific point in time, but once you have it, you'll never want to live without it. Sat radio is the same way. I bought XM with great skepticism, but it has proven to be a worthy expense time and time again for me (although I am on the road 20k-25k miles a year.)! It's an especially valuable resource on the hwy.
  6. If you are considering any kind of audio upgrades, cell phone, etc. now is the best time to do them. Other than that, I hear that cleaning the windows really well helps with chasing a smoke smell out. ;) LOL
  7. As far as I know you can't activate it since it works only on analog. Many of us (I, Jim, Bill, Falcoitt, and others) have installed aftermarket car phones that work great and are easy to install.
  8. Except almost every channel is commercial not commercial after commercial after commercial..... Wes, what I have is called a wired FM modulator (I think Delphi is one of the only ones that make them for XM. They're universal though.). I'll use this picture to help me describe it. The male antenna plug on the left plugs in to the antenna port on your head unit. The female one on the left is where you plug your car's antenna to. You plug your satellite antenna in to the little box that's in the middle of the pic, and the wire at the top of the picture is what plugs in to your tuner's sat antenna port. What's really nice is that it auto switchs back and forth beween the XM antenna and your car's antenna in case you want to listen to local AM/FM for traffic info or something. It's definantly worth the money, especially if you are having sound quality issues. I'm in a rural area, so I'm not sure if this is something you can pick up at Best Buy or not. I ordered mine directly from Delphi here: http://www.shopdelphicatalog.com/showProdu...&navigationId=7 (I have an Audiovox tuner, and it works with this kit without any issues at all.) I forgot what channel I was listening to the other day, but the comic had me I was laughing so hard I was almost in tears when he was doing a reinactment of his last trip to the all you can eat Chinese buffet!
  9. Are you still using the wireless transmitter? That's a good one too!! I have a Delphi wired XM modulator connecting my XM to the car stereo since there aren't really many other options than that for an old car like I have, but I am really, really pleased with. It was only like $30 too.
  10. Wes, do you lock your tuner in to XM 121 too?!?!?:whistles: :D I have a wired XM modulator that is very, very good for a $25 contraption, but not quite CD quality or something that is more directly integrated with the car stereo.
  11. I have XM and LOVE it, my next car is going to have to have it as a factory option though, for better sound quality and aesthetic reasons. B)
  12. No, that's not the case. You haven't made enough posts to access the buy/sell forum. You have to have 20 posts before you can sell stuff on the forum. The passage below goes in to a bit more detail ;) :
  13. We need to petition Lexus to get the amazing little IS220d here in the USA. That would be the ultimate-a stylish, diesel powered Lexus that gets get fuel mileage. B) Here's a neat little video on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6Uwz_pQWlA
  14. Did the seat get like that from the fender bender? <_<
  15. Razahyde, we haven't allowed the solicitation of free Carfax reports in the past, so I have to close this one down. blake918
  16. So why not sell it? If it doesn't get driven and it's not reliable, why keep it? First failure was at 77k miles? That's nothing, our '99 Suburban's tranny died ~60k miles. LOL
  17. That's right. I'm not sure what I was thinking (or if it was actually taking place), my mistake Be that as it may, I still stand by what I said, that is you don't have to be old to have poor night vision. What I see is different from other folks and vice versa, and my dark tint has no affect on my night vision. Maybe it'll help you, maybe it'll hamper. We can get affidavits for darker than legal tint for skin, eye, or other medical problems, and if the state is willing to forego a possible $150 tint citation, there's probably a little validity to it. LOL That's true, and until we can swap eyes, we'll never know. LOL
  18. Yep. My dad has the same vision problems, so I half expected to get them too.:whistles: Boobie dancin! LOL Presbyopia is farsightedness, myopia is nearsightedness, and astigmatisms are mis-shapen eyes which translates in to poor vision quality (it'd be like watching at a cheap tv, and then watching a name brand plasma or hd lcd blah, blah, blah TV! LOL). LOL

    New Camry

I like really like the new Camrys a lot, but I wish they would have used a warmer interior color pallet than grey and baby blue for the dash. It's a little unappealing to me. I saw a lime green Camry Hybrid the other day, and I think I threw up a little in my mouth from the color. LOL
  20. It was a joke for christ's sake! I found it especially humorous because he nearly said the exact same sentence over in the RX forum. I am more than aware that their isn't a 100% failure rate on the RX300 AWD cars as I have stated in my prior posts.I'm pleading no contest on the V6 Explorer transmissions. I never wrote anything about disagreeing with you(--I did say it's a moot point *for me* because one of the main points of getting an Explorer is to get the V8 engine). I did say that I have about 5 friends and relatives that drove '91ish Explorers for 10+ years and 200k+ miles with no powertrain or other major failures. Based on what others are saying it sounds out of the norm, but their are satisfied first gen Explorer customers out there, just as their are satisfied RX AWD customers.
  21. You know it! :D I hate how things get misconstrued on the internet. I really had no intentions of coming across as a jerk, but I guess it's going to happen when you only have some boring old text to go off of!
  22. I know, and I'm saying I can see just fine at night with very dark windows at all hours of the night with very, very poor vision and I'm no where near being a senior. ;) The point of my disagreement is that you don't have to be 80 years old to have poor vision. My mother is more than twice my age, and she can see perfectly, day or night, w/o glasses. I didn't see any mention of how eyeglasses or contacts affect their reports (maybe I missed it?). <_< Argument is such an ugly word with aweful connotations, let's say heated debate. LOL
  23. I have browsed those boards, and that does absolutely nothing to the fact that I know a numerous people that drove those vehicles for 10+ years with no major powertrain (or other) failure. Some might be better than others (Just as I'm sure most ES owners haven't faced 8 or 9 warranty repairs totaling $10k before 50k miles.) Maybe that Explorer tranny is a byzantine POS (it can't be completely true based off of what I've seen.), but like I said earlier, I'm not here to discuss who makes a better automatic transmission. I'm not assuming anything. I'm sure their are some that slip through the cracks and might make it to 150k miles with no failure. You said it's obviously an issue, that's good enough for me! $40k on an Explorer?? Why was it so much? I always love how Consumer Reports and JD Power find almost totally opposite data on car reliability. :)
  24. I don't need to ready anything since I know how my eyes react. There was nothing objectively offensive in my post. Perhaps you should reread what I wrote, ideally the last or two stentence where I said, "I know everyone's vision is different though! My $.02." Ya know, $.02 part meaing it's *my* opinion. I'm sorry for giving a counterpoint, but there are 2+ sides to any story. Perhaps you should dial in to your LOC control panel and ignore my posts as not to insult your intelligence in the future. ;) +1
