  1. Optimal is the best all around performance in all categories. In other words, the way the engine was designed to operate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating...urement_methods
  2. Thanks. Looks like it does pretty well in the Insurance Institute tests.
  3. Strange, the link is good bart. I see. Works ok in IE but not in Firefox. "Dominate" . :D :D
  4. I don't think there are any test results from NHTSA on our 2nd gen IS yet.
  5. It's not that difficult. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...ite=lock+itself One might expect that a long time lurker would have seen these threads. Now then, do you have any questions or anything of substance to add to the forum? FYI. Reasons for locking threads may not always be obvious to the reader.
  6. I reckon the IS350 would get a similar rating, but they don't have them in that part of the world. ;)
  7. I left the thread open because as of yet we have not had an extended discussion on gasoline as applies to the 2nd generation IS. Many of the users here are new to Lexus and some are on their first new car. Le't leave it open awhile so later on when someone brings it up there will be something in the forum that can be searched up and referenced. The great gas debate exists in other Lexus model forums, but we need one that's IS specific.
  8. I don't know about Camrys, but this is just down the road apiece from Talladaga. http://www.hmmausa.com/ And this is just up north aways. http://www.toyota.com/about/operations/man...abamaindex.html Just over at Tuscaloosa is. http://www.mbusi.com/pages/vc_home.asp
  9. I knew we did. Dangit, they sure rip you! Yah they do. Right after I got my car I got the A/C, Engine air, and some oil filters just so I'd have them when I needed. Next time you'll do good. :) You could almost save the price of a dinner by shopping online.
  10. I dont know why this isnt something I can do myself, through hidden menus or such. Anyway to find out? That's just the way it is. You should have a list of personalized settings. The dealer will set the whole thing up for you one time for free.
  11. Please try the search feature. There area already threads about this. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...Search&f=93 thanks
  12. It might end up with you doing the proving. Run what you want to run. It's your $35 to 45,000 car. :chairshot: :chairshot:
  13. The dealer should have a list of personalized settings. The beep volume is on of those. You might want to look at the list and see if there are any others you want changed and get it all done during the one free settings change. They should have a little programmer to take care of all that.
  14. Using less than 91 octane is really not a good idea. I think if Lexus thought you could use regular gas on a ruotine basis they wouldn't have specified premium. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...;hl=premium+gas
  15. That's starting to sound like a lemon law case. It seems to me that if people can put aftermarket fuel managment systems on their cars, then certainly Lexus ought to be able to replace some parts. That is, unless all the systems in all the cars are bad, and I'd find that hard to believe.
  16. I hadn't heard of this problem before, but it ought to be something they can resolve without that much trouble. I'd contract district service if the dealer isn't able to handle it. If it's firmware, then they ought to be able to change that out, even change the entire ECU if it's necessary.
  17. Car and Driver people are still living in the days when MG-TD's were cool.
  18. I figure 95% of "manual only" drivers will forget all about their perceived complaints about automatic, once they drive a IS350 for a little while. The car does most everything well and smoothly and certainly is no slouch in the acceleration department.
  19. Most states require that you pay the sales tax when you get your registration and tags. This makes it almost impossible to avoid the tax. GA, I dunno.
  20. I thought we went all through that cabin filter thing. Or maybe it was on another forum. Interior cabin a/c filter Quantity in Basket:none Code: 87139-07010 Price:$24.00 http://www.irontoad.com/Merchant2/merchant...;Store_Code=LSC
  21. I think it's a Caddy of some sort. Next time I go pay the water bill I'll ask him. :P :D :D We have a real interesting mayoral situation. Got a new mayor 2 years ago and he didn't like the police chief. He tried to get rid of the chief by several means but with no success. Well, the chief had enough years to retire so he did and then ran for city council. Now the ex chief is president of the council so the shoe is kinda on the other foot. I voted for the chief just hoping to have fun watching the action.
  22. Crank windows? No, they're celluloid and you have to lace them in place. Battery and self-starter is optional. A good, stout woman would have no trouble cranking it while you adjust the spark advance though.
