  1. Hey dont forget to install some nice flourecent lights if they are not there. Makes garage a better place when you work on your car at 3AM. Oboy, help the neighbors.
  2. The bearing is a seperate part. If you go to Park Place Lexus out of Plano Texas they have an illustration breakdown under the Front suspension parts showing this. Part is $75 and $9 for the bearings on there site. This site is available on the internet.
  3. not to pick at a scab, but how can you tell people to not me PC. Thats like saying, "lets all be racists" the word oriental has nothing to do with the great american dream, i find no connection. Its a way of respecting another culture. So when you say lets not be PC, thats pretty up. lol. I tried to say that as nice as possible. sorry if it came off as a little bit fired up. bad day at word :P PC makes me sick, why cant we say what we want when we want as long as it doesnt endanger others. If we werent so PC we wouldnt be joustling little old ladies at the airport for security or little children. Lets do the job right and racial profile if necessary. The terrorist were not white European men on those flights. Our whole nation is falling to the sensitiveties of a few. If we just treated everybody with respect and didnt catorgize people we wouldnt have to be so PC. that my two cents.
  4. congratulations. Nice spread, and dont ever be politically correct, remember borders, language and culture are the only real means to saving the greatness of our nation. If we tear those down we will cease to be the Great American Dream. I really am jealous, Your yard is very pretty with the trees in the back. My oldest grand baby was born in Jacksonville NC and I loved the people there, very friendly and down to earth with true warmth and genuine personalities. I just dont care for the humidity. And my wife wont go,but visiting is another thing. Set your garage up and make sure everything is secure, deadbolt any outside doors to the garage. My first house in San Jose I was ripped off of many hard earned tools one day. Been careful ever since. Good luck to you and the little woman and enjoy your garage and I am sure a list of honey do projects in the future.
  5. Mercedes uses a drain plug on the torque converter. Works great.
  6. there is a natural amperage leak that is associated with the automatic door lock mechanism, It times out after some specified period. The other device could be the CD player cartidge control, but I doubt it. Good luck, hope you got a tech that understands the electronics in the Lexus.
  7. I removed the plastic cosmetic cover that has the Lexus emblem on it. 2 or 3 allen wrench screws on the front and the thing lifts out. I also removed the Air intake hoses tothe intake manifold to give me some better visual on the driver side of the intake. Be real careful removing the coil plugs on the spark plugs, the plastic gets brittle. Make sure you hand thread the spark plugs with a little never seize on the threads. the extension will help.
  8. Hey pay the price, You will not have to do it again, before you dump the car. I payed $10.83 at my Lexus dealership. The plugs by the way did show some deteriation on the ground at 125k miles
  9. Hey RX, the job will go easier if you find a 4 inch extension. That is the perfect length. I want to warn you it was no easy task. I remember you are a big man, I hope your hands will work those tight spaces. I do not have small hands but it helps. The other problem I had was the rubber kept coming out of my spark plug socket. I did not have the 4 inch, and had to use a 3 inch with a swivel which kept coming loose. That is the best I can advise you other than you will be working blind to get to them, useing feel. by the way the Iridium plugs where just as cheap at the LExus dealership than online. Good luck friend
  10. I would say that your vehicle is probably the same as a Toyota Tundra, 6200 to 6800 lbs tow capacity. The reese hitch may be tow rated to 12k lbs for safety, but your vehicle is still only 6200 or so lbs tow rated. Dont forget, did your vehicle have the tow package with the larger transmission cooler?
  11. The other thing you may have to consider is the tongue weight. Addition of Air Bags to the rear suspension may be necessary to accomodate the weight. The Transmission should also have additional cooling.
  12. Sorry about your experience, On the west coast I have experienced the same crap at Lexus of Roseville. Must be something with the R in the city name.
  13. So how many quarts of Amsoil was required to do the flush? And At what cost? I however have a 1999 RX300 on my third transmission. The 330 may have a different fluid capacity.
  14. I dont know about the navigation system, but the radio pre sets stay if you change the battery fairly fast. I think their is a capacitor that holds the memory in the radio for a short time.
  15. Alternator from Park place Lexus in TExas is $296 with a $30 Core charge. They ship for free I believe.
  16. See bluestu, another satisfied Lexus customer with a failed tranny. They just keep rolling in. Makes me proud to be the owner of a 1999 RX300 with The Third transmission in its guts.
  17. From my experience with drive shafts I would recommend a Rebuilt assembly and then install that. That will still save you lots of money.
  18. Hey bluestu, I am gaining on the 5 or six people, I have received about 19 different emails from people with tranny failures. so dont bet on it. How many dont read or think of this site and have failed trannys?
  19. Yes, The system usually is under pressure to help reduce the boiling point.
  20. My neighbor is running into the same problem on a Honda Accord 1996. He found a crankshaft holding tool on the internet and received it. The Darn bolt still will not come off. I added a four foot long breaker bar and broke the swivel on the breaker bar. You know I think people are nuts putting something on that tight or are using red loctite which is a dumb thing. You should only use blue loctite. Red is for permanent installations. apparently many mechanics dont understand this. My 250 foot lb air wrench wont break it either. I sure hope it is not left hand threaded. Funny the Lexus is the same way. What is with that?
  21. Ok I am confused, You changed both Oxygen sensors on the engine or did you replace the sensor down on the Catalytic converter. I believe there are a total of three sensors on the RX300?????? Two on the exhaust manifolds and one down by the Catalytic converter.
  22. I changed the struts and mounts on my RX300 with KYB's and have performed no alignment, and have found no change in driving characteristics or tire wear, Maybe I am lucky but replacement with Monroe struts might change the geometry of the strut alignment, whereas the KYB's look exactly like the OEM shocks. I checked height of the vehicle before and after replacement and found no difference. Again that is probably because I used KYB struts. Good luck.
  23. I would tend to be very leary of it if it is a 1999. I believe many issues are on the first year models. I personally have lost two transmissions. As many have said the car is generally very reliable, but the Transmisson issue makes it a real negative at the tune of $4300 for the repair. I suggest the Accura MDX or The Toyota Forerunner. Both have many attributes. At least Honda/Accura stood behind their Transmisson issues. Good luck.
  24. Most drill bits sold to the public are not the optimum angle drill bits for drilling into steel. Machinist bits are cut at a different angle and with proper cutting oil will outperform most bits on the market. I wish I could remember the angles, but I know one of them is 117 degrees, but not sure if that is the machinist or common bit. Ford seems to always have bolts breaking in their blocks, been there and done that. Good luck.
  25. This site may not be accessed by many whom have had a tranny failure. Statistically you can not call that shot. I however will keep everyone posted as to failures that contact me.
