  1. Thanks Travieso, It's soo easy. I am always afraid of tearing something up by going at it the wrong way. Good link, with links to other sights too, and if you keep clicking you wind up back here :P Jimmy
  2. How do you remove the Sub-woofer (90 ls400) from the trunk, or from the backseat? The bolts from the trunk look like the are welded on or something. My sub woofer is blown too Jimmy
  3. Could be the starter syleniod (sp?). Try turning the lights on then hit the starter if the lights completely dim, then you have a dead battery Jimmy
  4. My 2cents Lexus LS400 is a fast car, but it is not quick. You need to do a longer race. I want try to talk you out of hot roding, when I was your age I didn't listen either. I will say this, it is a waist of a nice car to see it torn up trying to run a 1/4 mile race, or any race for that matter. :chairshot: Jimmy
  5. Sounds to me like some service department mgr's need to have thier jobs threatened. I can't beleive that Lexus, and the owners of a dealership would allow such poor comunication, assuming everything you say is true. Jimmy
  6. If the standard wrench doesn't work, I have always stabbed a screw driver into the the filter, and give it a turn to break it loose. That sandpaper idea sounds good too. This is not recommended however, especialy if your a girlie man :chairshot: Jimmy
  7. Yes, last tank was 348 when the low fuel light came on. It comes on when there is only 4 gallons left in the tank. I use the low fuel light, and my millage trip metter to track when I need gas due to the fact my fuel gauge doesn't work correctly. I think Premium fuel would be the best to use but I am leary of old gas, and contamenants. With gas prices the way they are now, I am afraid premium is not being bought anymore. If I lived in a very upscale part of town it might be different. You would be suprised at how much of a cheap skate the "wealthy" among us can be though :whistles: , so even if I went to the local millionares club gas station, it might not be any better. I guess I could buy an additive for my gas, havn't checked into that though. Jimmy
  8. ^^^^^ Thank god for people who really know what they are talking about Thanks for the info wwest Jimmy
  9. The last 2 tanks I used regular gas, and it runs great, and I am back to good mileage. Oh well, I tried. Jimmy BTW Thats a very Nice Acura you have for sale, had I seen that car before I bought this one.....
  10. The second time I filled my my 90 LS400, the fuel door said "premuim fuel only". I didn't notice it on the first fill up, and got 350 mi, mostly city before the low fuel light came on. To makle a long story short, I ran 3 high octane fillups through my car with very poor results. Never got more than 280 before the low fuel light came on. :( I think it is because the Fuel in the premium tanks at the gas stations are old. The regular gas is fresh, anyone else have this problem? Jimmy
  11. Thank you all for your help, and advise. I think I am going to like this forum. As soon as possible I am going to detail my car and take some pics, and post them. Jimmy
  12. The reason the defrost comes on is that AC removes humidity, normaly you can manualy depress the ac button and turn it off. This has a good side effect though, it keeps your compessor from becoming dormat durning the winter months. I don't know if you know this but it is not good to leave a compressor in the same position for extended periods. Jimmy
  13. Wow :o I think you have just experinced what is my nightmares. Do what SRK says, you don't have to do them all at once, just do what has to be done, then slowly work on the other things. I have a 1990 LS400, I will start praying now.
  14. :D I feel much better now. I am suprised at how many of the older Lexus I see out there now that I own one too, I notice these things. Umm, I kept a 89 Toyota Cressida, from 100k to 200k. I loved that car, but the went through 2 AC compressors, and it always leaked oil. You would fix one leak and another would magicly apear lol. Ran like a champ though. I lost it in a parking garage fire :( Thanks for your input Ron Jimmy
  15. I have always loved the LS400 since the day they were introduced, hence my name "envy". I could never justify spending the kind of money one of them would cost, but after stumbling onto the 90 Lexus I bought a month ago for $5800, I have gone from "I really Love this car" to "you fool, you just spent almost 6 grand on a car with 150k on it" back, and forth I go between the two extreams. The people who owned before me, along with regular engine, and transmission maint, had service records of: at around 90k they relpaced, Fuel filter, Power Steering pump, Timeing belt, a $600 brake job with all rotors, and calipers replaced, Air condtioner condenser, and compresor, water pump, and knuckle joints (?) replaced. At around 145k they replaced the entire Rack and Pinion assembly $2300, another $600 brake job, and a new drivers seat, the whole seat. Along with lots of gaskets, and a rear main seal I now have a car that needs struts all round, hydralic hood supports, a sub woofer, the AC makes a faint growning noise, very cold though, and the temp, time, and radio led's don't illuminate at night, they do but there is no back light. Except for a few stone chips on the paint job, the car shines like a new cream colored penny, not a single dent on it, not even a door ding, and I love the classic body style it has. The interior is quiet, and spotless too. Should I keep this car, or should run for the hills and sell it as fast as I can before its starts lose anymore value? Jimmy
