  1. I just found this on Club Lexus site. I have no idea if it is legitimate or accurate or even still available. In short, I make no guarantees. However, it might be a great answer to a major problem for a lot of our members. "Hey guys, I don't know if anyone knows this on the forum, but I have some great news. I had been having problems off and on with my Mark Levinson amp for quite a while and a week ago it finally stopped working. Well, after tons of research I came upon a company called United Radio Service in Syracuse, Ny. They had great customer service and fixed my amp the same day it was received for $325. I can't say enough, as I was quoted $900 from Lexus to replace the amp. They also warranty their work/parts for 1 year. Anyway, their website is: www.unitedradio.com. I dealt with the Automotive Division." Automotive Electronics 5705 Enterprise Parkway East Syracuse, NY 13057 Toll-free: 800-448-0944 Phone: 315-446-5570 Toll-free Fax: 800-701-3874 Fax: 315-446-2434
  2. Based upon my conversation with the audio tech at my dealer last week regarding the ML system, I'm with curiousB that you have a amplifier problem. I don't know much about the earlier ML amps, but the ones being installed over the last few years in the LS models are dropping like flys. The main problem with doing any repairs or diagnostics is that Levinson only licenses the use of the product to Lexus. All schematics, specs, components, and other information is kept as proprietary by Levinson. Lexus itself does not know how to repair one and can only swap out whole parts. Sounds dumb I know. But on Lexus part, it keeps the ML system exclusive to the Lexus line and no one else can copy the technology. Consequently, unless someone like curiousB knows something I don't, I don't know who would be able to do any work on the amp. As you know, "dcfish" is our authorized audio source for the club. If it comes to this, he might have a amp you could buy for that year. Let us know what you find out. Paul
  3. You've got to let all of us know what the problem was. You really have me mystified. (I just think it's a software issue)
  4. Hi Vick, I'm not an audio expert, but I see you haven't gotten any hit's so far so I want to at least give a few points. First, are you sure your wiring harness is the correct one. It sounds like you've got voltage/signal of some kind going directly to the output side since you can't control the volume of the noise signal. Or, during the installation did you somehow create a short in the wiring that is causing your problem. These are probably things that you have already thought of. Somebody else will chime in here I'm sure. Let us know what you find.
  5. Didn't realize this topic was a "rerun". Maybe it's in syndication. LOL Seriously, I strongly believe that the DRLs have contributed a great deal to road safety. I understand that there are those that for some mysterious reason feel the need to modify their trucks and SUVs with blinding blue HIDs, or what I've heard termed "ricered up". Motorcycles in though, have finally brightened their headlights so they are more easily seen in traffic. Often I have been at a stop sign ready to pull out and had it not been for the motorcycles headlights I never would have seen them coming. On gloomy, rainy, or snow stormy days, it boggles my mind the number of idiot drivers who apparently never give a thought that no one else can see them in the storm and have NO lights on. Not even their parking light OR DRLs. Automatic DRLs in these situations overcome the stupidity factor of those who believe it is their right to drive a car regardless of how poorly they do it.
  6. I did a little more looking into it this Dan and wonder if you have Nav in your IS. The "Smart Access" feature is customizable by using the Nav screen. You can shut off the other doors and leave only the drivers door active. However, I bet your going to say that it's your driver's door that is not working. LOL The simplest solution ? Use your warranty and take it to the dealer before you drive yourself nuts trying to figure it out. Also, if you have gloves on,(which I've had to do here a few times this fall) it does not work.
  7. If you have very sensitive vision, I can understand your wish for other cars. But why turn off your own? I am real glad my car has DRL's because with all of the crazy people driving out there, I want to make darn sure they see me coming. Additionally, when Lexus designs the electrical systems for the car, they calculate the load and size the alternator and battery requirements accordingly. I don't think the running lights put a dangerous load on the system.
  8. Hi dantheman77, A couple of things; When you say "Key nearby" how close do you mean? The fob must be within 2.3ft. in order to operate. Second, does the key/fob open the trunk? If it opens the trunk it must mean the radio wave system is working, including the transmitter in the key/fob.
  9. Welcome Steve to the LOC. If I decipher your handle it looks like your a First Responder/Fireperson? Paul
  10. I wish you were getting some more feedback from other RX400 owners because I'm not a RX expert by any stretch. ahopefully some others will chime in this weekend as they have time. Did the people you talked to re the 18" wheels/tires explain that it is the circumfrance of the tire that will throw off the speedometer, not the 255/55 width of the tire. However, another issue to keep in mind is if you switch to a wider, larger circumfrance tire, you may have trouble with the tire rubbing the wheel well when you make tight turns. I don't know if that is a problem on the 06' GS but you need to check that out with your local tire guy or dealer. As far as cost, my dealer will match any advertised tire price including Tire Rack and Costco. When comparing prices don't forget that you also have the cost of mounting and balancing each tire. Here in the Mid-West that runs about $25-35.00 a piece. Tire Rack offers good reviews and comparisons of their tires. Here is an article on tire size that might be helpful. http://www.autobytel.com/car-ownership/maintenance-repair/how-to-read-tire-sizes-8764/
  11. To add my two cents, other than the scheduled items Jim talks about above, and even including that, it may be possible to come up with an average expense for your GS, but only YOUR GS. To arrive at a true average yearly or lifetime car ownership maintenance expense, you need to have several GS430's from which to gather data. Whether a GS, LS, ES, and so on, all will wear differently based on climate used in, fuel used, type of oil used, driver habits, road conditions (pot holes, gravel, etc.), quality of parts used for repairs, skill and knowledge of the technician, Diy'er making repairs, way car is housed or not, city vs. highway driving, etc.. No two cars wear the same regardless of manufacturer. Perhaps the one thing that can help obviate this pattern is, as Jim said, start with a totally new car and maintain it from there. BUT, all of the variables I mentioned are still going to apply. As I said, just my 2 cent's.
  12. We are right in there with all of you. After the usual "Who are you again, and why should we care?" attitude from our previous Big Box bank, we now do all of our banking with our Credit Union connected to my wife's employer. When I walk in they ALL know us by name, their rates are competitive, and when we need an extra service like counting the change from my jar on my dresser, they do it gladly and free. Also, we can do all of our banking from our recliner since it is all on line service if we want. I hope B of A, Wells Fargo, and some of the others choke on their fees (known and hidden) and get a clue from people like us. Check this out re Bank of America, (Strikes again) http://realestate.aol.com/blog/2011/11/04/bofa-threatens-family-with-foreclosure-over-1-coding-error/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl13%7Csec3_lnk3%7C110189
  13. All of us kind of envy your ability to have such a superior car, but to compare your LS600HL to the Equus is an incredible endorsement of Hyundai's efforts indeed. I think your comments need to remind us not to get to complacent. Regarding selling your LS, would you take a $1.00 down and a $1.00 a week? Thats what I could afford. LOL Thank you for posting. It's always good to get more information and opinions.
  14. 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe spy shot at track. As the copy says it is coming soon to the dealers. It appears that Hyundai is continuing it's full court press to take it's place with the big boys in the luxury market. In my opinion, this model has an aggressive look and is a bold look for a first attempt. What have you folks heard? http://www.autoblog.com/2011/11/04/new-2013-hyundai-genesis-coupe-image-leaks-out/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl16%7Csec3_lnk1%7C110064
  15. I did a search of the forum and found these threads that might be helpful. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59420&st=0&p=388883&hl=+rx400h%20+tire%20+wear&fromsearch=1entry388883
  16. This sounds controversial..... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/04/move-your-money-activists_n_1076630.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl2%7Csec3_lnk3%7C110132
  17. I'm not familiar with the RX300, so a wild guess would be to check the fuse for that circuit. Should be listed in your owners manual. Other than that I don't know. Someone else will come along and perhaps have a better suggestion.
  18. For all of those on watch all around the world, may we never forget their sacrifice. Brother; U.S. Air Force 1950's - Pilot Survival Instructor Uncle; U.S. Army World War II - Radar Operator/Europe
  19. I looked into this problem with the LS460 amplifiers a little further: I talked to the audio man at my Lexus dealer and asked him if there is a problem with the Mark Levinson amp in the LS460. He said that the amps in that system have a high rate of failure and they see it all the time. The problem is that Levinson will not share any knowledge, schematics, diagrams, parts, or technical assistance since it is all proprietary and Levinson just license the product to Lexus. Consequently the dealer hasn't got a clue as to what is wrong with the amp or how to repair it. The only fix is a replacement. To compound the problem, there are also no published specs. about the Levinson amp, even at the dealers. This means it is very difficult to even find an aftermarket amp for a replacement since you won't know the power draw, wattage, impedance(ohms) crossover, etc. And the amplifier in the LS460 is indeed diffrent from the amp in the ML systems in other Lexus models. It is more complex and powerfull than the others. Wish I could give all of you better news.
  20. Hello, and wellcome to the Lexus Owners Club. We are glad you joined. Great looking car!! and great pictures.
  21. Although we tend to think and speak of technology as a new thing, we know that it has been the driving force of change for thousands of years. Much more so in the last two hundred of course. The benefits of the distance of the arrows flight over the hand thrown spear, or the precise and emotional conversations possible with the telephone over the telegraph. Just think of how much safer a guy and his family was once they developed the tool to chisel stone so they could shape stone into houses. Hard, sturdy houses. Safe from plunder and marauders. And those marauders may have used saddles on their mounts, saddles invented for more comfortable and longer journeys. The problem in my observations is not technology taking away jobs, it's too many people and not enough jobs. All of us at one time or another think about the desire to duplicate ourselves. Little Paul Jr. or Becky Lou. Probably no one would argue that at least in this country it's up to you what you do in terms of having a family or not. But now that we have hit 3,000,000,000 people in the USA, and 7,000,000,000 for the Earth, it is time to ask if we can afford to continue to procreate at our present rate and still think we can create enough jobs to keep up with the number of baby's born around the world every year. ( Estimates put world population at 8,000,000,000 as soon as 2025). This is a topic that I have not got a clue how you would begin to solve. It involves individual rights, religious beliefs, oppressive and Totalitarian Governments, the natural laws of nature and creation, as well as the betterment of the species. One place we could start, is to take a long over due look into the abyss of the limited amount of nonrenewable resources and finally agree that the planet cannot sustain all of us forever. There is only so much land in the right types of climate zones on which you can grow food. And that is quickly vanishing.
  22. I suggest you simply drop by a dealer and have them point to it. Then you'll be able to find it the next time. Paul
  23. Just saw a IS250c in the showroom today and it had a big sticker on the window disclaiming any miles over 15,000 for the OEM tires on the car. Did not get a look at what they were. If my memory serves me this was true of the late models SC was it not?
