  1. Engine light came ON today while driving. Got the code which mentioned P0441 along with other numbers. As mentioned somewhere in this forum it turned out that pipe had come out. I wanted to post the picture.
  2. Hello All, I am back gain with the updates. Yes I still do have the 2001 GS430. I just cant find a reason to sell it. It runs so well, and it now has nearly 180000 miles on it. Break lights were due to the burnt out bulbs (rear middle one in the rear windshield. And thanks to forum help, I had to cut out a piece of pipe in the Y pipe ($140 at local muffler shop) and that solved expensive repair recommended by the dealer to replace the whole y pipe and the Engine light on situation. After that I have not spent any money on the car. I may have to replace the front break pads including new rotors. My steering pulsates when I apply the break now and replacement should take care of it. Also the tire shop guy at Costco mentioned that one my wheel is warped and recommends replacement. Overall it is a trouble free two years! As Guru member suggested in this forum, at this mile I am prepared to buy a new car if some thing were happen, but I would love to keep it running till 300K. I just love the ride and no monthly payment. I do the service at the Lexus dealership. Thanks a lot again for repair help in this forum in my initial part of ownership
  3. Hello All, I have a 2001 model year GS430 at 162k miles and runs very well so far. Could you owners please tell me how long your transmission lasted and the Engine too? I am planning on to keeping it as long as it lasts. Thanks and appreciate your input.
  4. Agree on buying a used car without repair records. However I found out from my dealer that the car was not in any Lexus dealership after 60,000 mile service. If previous owner were to maintain regular services and repairs, I would not have had to do the 120K service, Spark Plugs, Timing belt and Water pump. I was little surprised on the suspension related services as well as radiator and alternator as would have expected them around 180k to 200K. To be fair car has been living in New England area where it is exposed to snow and salt. I want to run this car until 250K and hence curious to know what other repairs can I expect before the transmission and the Engine. Like I said they seem to be regular maintenance except for the Power Door Locks. I hope that since these repairs were done at Lexus Dealership, I don’t have to worry for another 100K. @1990LS400 2000 LS 400 have good reputation for their reliability! @Paul A I am hoping other owners would input their repair information so we could see a pattern.
  5. Hello All, I thought I should share list of repairs done on my 2001 GS430 at various mileages, so other owner can expect similar repairs when they reach those miles. I bought the car at 132000 mile and took it to the Lexus dealership for inspection. Their suggested repairs were: -Strut Rod -Lower and Upper Control Arms -Ball Joints -Rear differential seal -Left front window motor -Power Door Locks Three door power locks Ofcourse I prioritized the repairs and got some of them done. At 133000 miles following repairs were done Ball Joint Replace Spark Plugs Clean MAF 120K Service. At 140000 miles following repairs were done Replace Timing Belt and Water pump Replace Radiator Change transmission fluid At 155000 miles following repairs were done Replace Alternator Replace front both upper control arms Still pending repairs are: Brake light is on Engine light on because of the hole in the Y exhaust pipe Looking at the car purchase price and repairs cost that question always pops out - if it was worth it. But nothing beats wonderful feeling of driving powerful V8, sporty four door GS430. I think it is worth it. Almost all the repairs are expected at those miles. Please feel free to share similar information. Thanks
  6. Finally I got around checking the temp sensor and the connector. That part number for the Housing connector is 90980-11070 and the Part Number for the Ambient Temperature sensor is 88790-22131 based off the tag on the package. Of course you need two wires with connectors at the end which Parts people gave me. It works!
  7. When I bought this 01, GS430 I noticed that outside temperature reading was -22oF. I found out that wires connecting to ambient temperature sensor were cut and hanging and no ambient temperature sensor present either. When I called many Lexus dealership looking for the connector lot of them in my area told me that I can not buy just the connector that goes into the ambient temperature sensor (which is available and recognized by parts people easily). Some of them suggested that I change the wiring harness which cost about $2000.00 But few know that you can find the connectors and the other little part that goes with it for a total not more than $30.00. I will update the part and part number soon once I am successful in installing and get the right ambient temperature.
  8. Last weekend I was able to do both MAF sensor clean and throttle body clean. Also used Chevron Techron. Car runs very well now. When I did the cleaning I disconnected negative terminal of the battery so ECU settings would get to reset. Also I had to replace throttle body gasket with a new one as it is not reusable. I fee that the power is restored completely. Some times when I hit the accelerator pedal hard with an intention to takeoff ECU tries to control the acceleration and that causes awkward delays. As others suggested in this forum, if anybody experiences poor or delayed acceleration on their high mileage car, I would suggest above repairs to begin with. I still need to replace transmission oil, timing belt, water pump but I am not sure how much it will help in acceleration problems
  9. Hello All, Thanks for the response. Finally I was able to do some work done. Replaced spark plugs with Denso Iridium and Air Filter. Lag is gone. I don't see hesitation. However I will try to clean throttle body and MAF. I still need to do the pending services such as timing belt, replace water pump, replace both upper and lower front arm controls, rear suspension struts, and transmission fluid change not flush( according to my service technician at the dealer) Looking at the way it behaved, I would think that it should give some indication when air filter is so bad. Of course spark plug recommended replacement time is 120K miles. Now this is so much of better. Thanks again.
  10. Hello, I bought a 2001 GS 430 with 134k miles recently. I realized that the outside temp is showing as -22 Deg F all the time. After going through the repair manual, I realized that connection must be open because -22 indicate a very high resistance. The manual says at 25 Degrees Celsius out side temperature the ambient temp sensor resistance should be 1.6 to 1.8 Kilo Ohms. At 50 Degrees Celsius the resistance should be 0.5 to 0.7 Kilo Ohms. This info pointed towards very high resistance to indicate that coldest temperature. Sure enough, when I tried checking the sensor, I see a cut hanging wire and no sensor either. I really don’t know how and where it is placed. So if some body has pictures of the location and properly installed ambient temperature sensor please post it. I am planning to buy a new sensor any way to hook it up. Also please help me on how I would connect this cut wiring properly so they won’t short later. Thanks.
  11. Hello I just bought a 2001 GS 430. It has 134K miles on it. It came with few problems. One of the problems is that car hesitates to move from stopped position or for that matter whenever you hit the accelerator it ignores first 20% of the accelerator, then it starts with a jerk. I asked the dealer today and they say it is an expected behavior. It seems transmission has intelligence built in to it to adjust to driver’s driving style. They asked me to use it for some time for it to set to my driving style. I was enquiring about the accelerator pedal replacement and gad additive like Chevron Techron Concentrate as mentioned in this forum under some topic. They say none of them are necessary. I hope it works out soon. Also, are the part sold by parts.com genuine OEM? Thanks
