Hi Wuzzy, I agree with Bob. Not only can you find the manual at this Toyota site, But if you don't need the whole manual at once, you can buy access for two days for only $15.00. This covers all Lexus, Toyota, and Scion technical information on just about any question you might have. Let us know how things are going. Paul

Criticality Of Timing Chain Replacement
pj8708 replied to volosong's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
Hi Steven. Before the timing chain, Lexus used a timing belt. The change was made to make the part run longer and not require an automatic change out at 90,000 miles. Like the pistons, fan belt, camshaft and so on, the timing chain is running constantly for every inch you drive. There are two different camp's on when or if to change it. For myself, I would change the part. Remember, the fact that you've been able to drive your RX for 200,000 miles is a testament to the quality of Lexus. In my opinion however, any car, Lexus or not, is going to start with one problem after another At this point in time most cars are looking for a sheltered place with easy curves and where it can retire in comfort. yummy Dino. Giving the RX to your one & only could become an expensive Christmas present. Do you know how long the battery/charger last before needing a change out? I don't know but if you know would you come back and let us know. Paul -
Replace The Mark Levinson Amplifier Yourself And Save $$
pj8708 replied to RetiredDoc's topic in 08 to 21 Lexus LX570
Something you may have already had experience with is the "Toyota Information Services". This site is by Toyota and contains almost all technical information on Lexus, Scion, and Toyota. The site contains wiring diagrams, mechanical specs and anything you can think of. You must register when you sign in and pay $15.00 for two full days use. You may also buy additional use up to a full years subscription. I would encourage you folks to try it and report back on what you think. (NOTE) Some areas of the TIS site are restricted to certified technicians. Look forward to hearing from you. Paul -
Edmunds names the GS as the best car for keeping it's residual value. Heck, with all that money your saving, you should go out and buy another one. http://www.autoblog..../#slide-3588623 Paul

Edmund's has just announced the list of cars that best keep their value over time. Within this group, the 2015 GS 350 stands out not only because it holds its value, but also because the GS is a luxury automobile among and ever growing market filled with brands that you wouldn't expect to have some of our Lexus features. I feel my cars do hold a substantial amount of their original value, and along with things like having floor mats so clean you could eat off of them. When I drive my ES into the dealer for a look around for a new toy, they look at the exterior and interior and say things like, "Do you ever drive this"? It forces them to offer more than market value for my trade. How about you? http://www.autoblog.com/photos/cars-that-retain-their-value/#slide-3588623

Hi Jim, Is there any background on how this problem developed and what was done to remedy the situation? Thanks Paul

Hi Gabby and welcome. When your mechanic refers to the "lower engine" he is meaning the crankshaft and pistons. However, if he is saying those parts plus valves and camshaft, then it does indeed appear that the engine is covered under the court settlement for the RX 300 thru 2002. The suit was filed against Toyota, including Lexus as well, for oil sludge build up and engine damage. The big question is how, who, or where to go and how to begin your claim process. The link below, will take you to a document, laying out the entire history and resolution terms. However, the number one problem I would point out is the term of 8 years in which to settle your case. Please come back and let us know your progress. Paul http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/01/toyota_sludge_settlement.html

I would like Lexus to add a Transporter feature so you could instantly go to all of the worlds most beautiful and historical sights.

Trunk Release Won't Work When Button Pushed
pj8708 replied to nola97lex's topic in 92 - 00 Lexus SC300 / SC400
You asked about fuses, my 2013 ES shows a fuse for "power trunk lock and unlock." These fuses are located on the drivers side foot well, up high to the dash line. -
Unless your a DIY, remember your warranty which is almost brand new. Paul

Yes, we are thinking of the downtown area. I think we are looking for traditional southern fare for us to try, or one that might have some historic connection. Thanks Becki.

If you don't read the manual, you might not know what you are missing. There may be features that you would really value if you knew about them. One of my roles in my "retirement gig" is to write instructional materials and to get supposedly highly educated technical staff to use them and other reference materials that would help them use technology to perform their tasks more efficiently. It's a lot like persuading car owners to read owners manuals! I love the cartoon!!!! When it comes to Owners Manuals, 900 pages is a little daunting. But a lot of questions that come here are in the manuals.

Hey Becki, We are going to Charleston the first part of November just to check-out the low lands and the Charleston sights. Do you or your daughter know of any restaurants you could recommend? Thank you! Paul
-
Hi Melisa and welcome. You might check on e-bay. There is always a large collection of good parts, as well as the category ,"what would this do??" Also, just go onto your browser and look for such parts from auto salvage houses around the country. I hope this might at least give you some possible path's to follow. Paul

In 2013, when we took delivery of our RX and ES, the dealer was in the process of implementing the Technical Customer Rep program that Lexus was wanting all dealers to establish. The person with the dealer spent a good 1/2 hour with my wife and her RX. He was very patient, knew what he was talking about, and she left feeling like she was important to them. They continue this part of the delivery package, and will even come to your home if you'd like. Paul

Sorry!! Thanks Denny.

I think most people and certainly most Lexus forum moderators would put forth a little more effort to explore the features of their new Lexus vehicles than you did. :chairshot: I've taken delivery of a number of brands of new cars (VW, Volvo, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mercedes) and none of the delivery "ceremonies" and overviews went into much detail. It was always something like: "here's your owners manual which explains everything". (The Mercedes delivery really was a ceremony - not sure if giving a person a glass of Champagne before driving away was a good idea but it was the 70's.) The annual cost of the "Enform Complete Package" does seem a little high - particularly when it is the same for a relatively inexpensive IS250 and a vastly more expensive LS600hL. It is possible to "unbundle" Safety Connect and subscribe to it separately: https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/lexusenform/subscriptions.do We purchased multi-year subscriptions to Safety Connect on our Toyota Sienna and Prius to get a lower per year cost and I assume that discounted multi-year subscriptions are available for Lexus since the single-year cost is the same for Toyota and Lexus brand vehicles. And maybe discounted multi-year subscriptions are available for the "Enform Complete Package"? Denny, do you have a cell phone? If you do, you are already being tracked! :chairshot: (How many "chairshots" can be put in one post?) A good moderator knows their audience and when one of those is you, I advise, "Abandon hope all ye who enter here." LOL

Hi Glenn and welcome. If you do a search of our data base you'll find several threads about this question. Earlier there were many owners who were stuck with K&N. But when Lexus came out in 2013 with a recommendation of 0-20w for my 2013, ES 350. it became pretty clear to me that the extra money for K&N would not give my baby any more protection.

Buy what you like !! Money is always a factor when buying a car, but in 5 years from now (just to pick a number for argument sake), will you wish you had paid a little more for the heated seats, or had bought new and got the FULL 4 year, 40,000 mile warranty? I live in central Iowa, a part of the eastern high plains. I also use the same Bridgestone snow tires as Jim. My 2013 ES350 is good in snow, but when the Ice & Snow come, I am glad I spent the extra money. Paul Welcome to you Jake.
