i have a 98 ls400 with about 244,000 miles on it. I’m having this very odd issue with the car. When I come to a stop light/ sign, the battery light comes on, rpms drop straight to 0 and the engine dies. Air and radio some times stay on. If I put it in park and restart the car the light goes away then its fine to drive until.. ya guest it I come to another stop. It does the exact same thing over an over at each complete stop. I assumed it was the alternator and I replaced it yesterday. No battery light, or weird idols happened for about a day. it is back to doing the battery light thing. If anyone has any Ideas of what it could be, or how to fix this issue id really appreciate it. ALSO not sure how old my battery is, changed the negative battery terminal when I did the alternator. Positive could be the problem (Corrosion on positive terminal) or maybe the terminal cable(s)?? Im very new to working on cars and any information is appreciated and retained.

You should have checked your battery first before changing out the alternator. You should have a check engine light on so pull the codes and post back here. This could be a MAF issue. Does the car die while idling in park?

Does not die while in park, will post back when I get the codes pulled.

With that many miles It could be Your maf sensor, IAC valve, throttle body probably needs to be cleaned also but the codes will point you in the right direction.

I think sha4000 is right about IAC valve. I would clean it first.

Pulled the codes, only code is for my transmission solenoid C needs to be changed. No other codes.

This is for the shift solenoid C.

You can try cleaning your throttle body First but make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks.

Make sure to remove the plate on top and clean the holes.

      I recently purchased a 1997 Lexus ls400 coach edition with 176k miles. As we were driving it home, the check engine light came on. We took it in to a shop that we've been going to for years and got a reading. They said it was the catylitic converters and that they needed to be replaced in order to pass inspection in Virginia. Since that shop only used brand new parts, each converter would cost around 2 grand. I started looking for cheaper alternatives and found some on rock auto and carparts.com for around $42-300 and was wondering if those would be a good idea to buy. Most of the ones I found had warranties so that would lessen the risk.

      If anyone could help it would be gladly appreciated. I have a check engine light on my ls400. Took it to autozone to let them use the code reader on the car. They told me one of the solenoids are bad on my transmission. If anyone can tell me, or help me how to correctly replace the solenoid and what tools I need I’d very much appreciate it. Or should I just have a shop do it?? Thanks

      Apologies if I'm reposting a similar thread or not following the rules for creating a thread. I'm a new member.
      Want to provide an overview of my situation: I bought a brand new 2019 RX 450H F Sport for Wifey 2 weeks ago. Last night while trying to start the car in the garage, the whole odometer and lights started flashing (feels like disco lights). It went on for about 10 mins. The car couldn't be started. The message displayed was something about the Brake (P) malfunctioning. The car just reached 600 miles.
      Had to call the Lexus Emergency line and got the car towed to the nearest Lexus dealership. Received a message this morning from the dealership that the car and battery will be inspected (will need few hours). I wished I would have taken a video of it to show the magnitude.
      Want to get your advice and opinion from fellow members. Has this ever happen to anyone? What could have cause the issue? My Wife was both distraught and disappointed since it's a brand new car. On the bright side, this happened in our home (situation could have been worse if it happens in the middle of freeway).

      Can someone please help me! I got my ignition coil changed on my 2004 gs300 on saturday because my car was having misfires. After changing the ignition coils I tried to crank the car but it wouldn't start, we disconnected everything new and put all the old ones back on and still nothing, then I realized the alarm indicator is blinking even when the key I in the ignition and turned. I tried a locksmith and he assured me nothing is wrong with the key, PLEASE HELP ME. I've changed the fuel pump, spark plugs and also tried everything I read online about resetting the alarm and nothing works, I can activate and deactivate the alarm from my key pad but the light continues to blink and the car refuses to start
