H8R Proof Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I know the later Mercedes' models offer built in sun-shades on the rear window and backseat-side windows that function with the touch of a button. I like that idea. Has anyone here added that option to their ES or does anyone have any other rec's or ideas?
steviej Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 that is an option on the 2002/03 ES, but I ain't got it. sj
amf1932 Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I have the rear sunshade option and it works very well. There's a button on the center console that operates it either up or down. When you put the shift lever into reverse it automatically goes down so you can see out the rear window better. It really cuts the heat for the rear seat passengers if the sun is coming through the rear window. ;)
SW03ES Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Yes, I really like it too. The LS430 has manual shades for the rear side windows as well.
amf1932 Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 The '02-03 ES's also have separate air conditioning controls for the rear seat passengers. I don't know what year they started that on the ES's. It could have on the '02 model???
H8R Proof Posted July 29, 2003 Author Posted July 29, 2003 So do you guys think this option could be added to an ES that didn't come with this option? Probably for a pretty penny, huh?! Those who have it - I envy you!! <_<
amf1932 Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 If this option wasn't in the original equipment package for the car than I suggest you forget it.....It probably would cost a fortune to put it in, even if they could do it. P.S. If I didn't have it I wouldn't miss it!! Besides, the rear passengers should be very happy to be driving in such a beautiful car, so let em cook. hehehe :D
SW03ES Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 There are companies that sell manual ones. I agree with Alan about the power one though. I'd say buying parts and installation, $2500 or so.
chillaxin Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I don't know, I have it, but I haven't found it too useful since I got my windows tinted <_< for me, itz just another option to wow my passengers with

squarehat Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 I know there are manual ones on the market, I used to park near a late-90's Accord with a manual roll-up sunshade that looked like a somewhat cruder version of the sunshade on the newer ESs. I had considered getting one to protect the top of my back seat from sun damage when the car was parked outside at work all day.
SW03ES Posted July 30, 2003 Posted July 30, 2003 I always deploy the sunshade when parked outside for that very reason.
Mr. ken Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Contacted local dealer today regarding cost of power sunshade for the rear window of my 2002 es300...cost $1175.00. The switch was $75.00. Plus installation. I said Ok then.
sunman Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I believe the cars are prewired for the rear shade. If you can get a wholesale rate, it would be less than 1200 dollars for the unit and switch.
SKperformance Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Even if it is prewired you need a new parcel shelf with the cutout for the shade to operate .

Geo Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 How lazy have we become when some are willing to pay a couple of grand to have shades come up and down when you can do it physically in two minutes and less than 20 bucks !! George
alschneider Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I think it was standard equipment on my 2005 ES. The salesman made such a big deal about it but my 2000 Infiniti had it also. If you have nice tint, the screen is not necessary.
