  1. I believe you have to go to your local dealership and have them change it to metric. Ive tried to change it myself before out of curiosity but no luck changing it. I believe its not even in the owner's manual
  2. Not sure if these pictures are accurate, but I found these on the internet just today and thought I'd share it with everyone LEX-SV I've modified the topic title to attract more attention and I've also pinned this topic for easy access to it. Feel free to post new pics or updates in this thread guys! Denslexusgx470 LOC Moderator
  3. Lately I named my GX as "Grandpa" because of it's age in years (2003), yet still going strong (and low mileage).
  4. Try the 18" Limited rims from a Toyota 4Runner. I've seen them on a GX before and they look nice. You won't have to worry about any rubbing issues. Look for the limited rims from a 06-09 Toyota 4Runner
  5. I'm not sure if bluetooth can be added to an 03 but I just want to inform you that you can not play your music through the car's bluetooth system. I'm only aware of a certain few cars that can and those are newer ones (2010 and newer)
  6. I agree with Pete. Sounds like a well maintained GX. Only major thing to consider is that it's a 2005 and next year (2012) it'll be due for a timing belt even though you may or may not be at 90k miles yet by that time. That's a $900+ maintenance cost. Rotors will warp depending on how you drive. Some are more aggressive which means they tend to do more hard braking. If you drive normally and not brake too hard most of the time, you should be fine. It is a bigger vehicle so more weight and more heat will generate which thus causes the rotors to warp. Not sure about your navigation question. Thoroughly scan the whole vehicle before purchasing. Carfax may be clean but it won't hurt to do your own walk-through as sometimes some damages are not reported to carfax (if the work never went through insurance, or if there were no police reports at the time of accident)
  7. I guess I'll start the list including cars that we obtained even when I was a kid (in america). 1992 Honda Accord DX (Neutral feelings) 1996 Nissan Quest XE (ehh, hate! but I loved having factory tint in the backseat) 1997 Honda Odyssey (Love/Hate. Lasted very long, very reliable, not the best looking out there) 2000 Lexus RX300 (Love/Hate. First Lexus, but cloth?) 2000 Honda CR-V (Love! Easy to maintain and modify) 2001 Lexus RX300 Silversport (Love it. First hated the Silversport edition but it grew onto me eventually) 2003 Lexus GX470 (Love at first sight) 2006 Toyota 4Runner (Basic, but I love it) 2009 BMW 528i (FUN FUN FUN!! )
  8. I tried it out and no luck :( The 4Runner tonneau is a little too wide so it rubs against the side panels while pulling it, and it doesn't seem to extend out far enough to where it will lock and stay put. The 4Runner's is apparently wider and shorter than the GX's trunk
  9. Sure thing. Reason I asked the color is because the 4Runner doesn't have a charcoal colored tonneau cover just in case it will fit in the GX. Since you have tan and if it works, then you'll be ok with the color matching. It's almost like comparing oranges and tangerines. The 4Runner feels cramped (I have an 06 which is the 4th Gen 4Runner) compared to the roominess of the GX. Both share a lot of similar characteristics (and parts too). Braking is better in the 4Runner because it is a lot lighter than the GX though. Power is the same IMO even though my 4Runner is just a V6 (there was a V8 option which is the same V8 engine that our GX has). Also the 4Runner is more handy for everyday trips around town. Comfort is where I believe the difference comes in. You won't notice it on short trips but it is noticeable on long out of town trips. The GX feels like you're just gliding through the freeway when going on a long trip which makes you feel relaxed after the long trip compared to the 4Runner. The 4Runner isn't rough or anything but that extra cushion does help you drive farther with less fatigue. In short, if let's say you normally feel tired after driving 3 hours, with the GX you probably can drive maybe up to 6 hours before you start feeling fatigue. So I like both in their own ways.
  10. Like lenore mentioned, disconnect and connect the battery and see if that will reset the center display. Regarding the burnt light indicator, it's the third brake light. Had that issue come on and off until the third brake light finally burned out on me. Takes about 10 minutes to replace and should solve the issue of the light indicator
  11. What color is your interior? I have a 4Runner also and I'll try tonight if it'll fit perfectly in the GX. (I have no third row seats either)
  12. Who are you calling a prick? lol.
  13. I haven't had the chance to drive a nice car yet, but aside from the typical Mercedes C-class, E-Class (06, 10), ML350 (06,10) GLK350,BMW 328i, 528i (mine), 535i (11), X3 (05, 11), Audi Q5, the whole Lexus line-up except an LS460, GS430/460, & SC430, I've driven a Corvette and an ML55 AMG. Then again I'm still young so I still have a lot of chances to try out something nice
  14. Unfortunately I haven't heard of any audio issues on the GX. Dealer is your best bet at the moment.
  15. I've noticed that Toyota/Lexus have a very cheap locking actuators. On my GX (which I've owned brand new since January 2003) I've had every door locked replaced except the left rear door (which is the only door that is hardly opened/closed). My 4Runner which I've owned since brand new in June 2006) I've had the driver's door lock actuator break on me also on the last day of my warranty.
  16. 04 white.. Blizzard Pearl? I don't recall hearing any issues of paint peeling with the Blizzard Pearl paint. They've been using that color since they rolled that color out (in exchange with the Sand Dollar Pearl which supposedly had the paint peeling issue) on the GX starting March 2003.
  17. Sorry for the late reply. Welcome and hope you enjoy LOC! First off, the driveshaft clunk isn't a safety issue or major mechanical issue. It's just the annoyance of a "bump" feel when stopping at a stop light. They figured out a fix in 2006 (which I received and have been clunk free since then) but the ironic part is that there have been newer GX's (07-09)that have complained about the clunk too. So it's a hit and miss sort of thing. The unit you find may or may not have it. There's no other main issues about the vehicle. Make sure you check the service history at your local Lexus dealership and also check the carfax/autocheck.
  18. I barely see any GX with that sport bumper. Just keep searching eBay. One should come up sometime there.
  19. Also to add to this, I know you guys are dealership hopping, but it's best to deal with the internet sales guy. When it comes to price negotiations (not PAYMENT negotiations, like what has been mentioned multiple times), your sales guy can tell you if they can go that low or not. It's a waste of time to just talk to any "vulcher" (those sales guys who are waiting outside of the dealership and quickly walk up to you even before you open the door of your car to get out) and deal the price with them. You will be the typical customer who sits there for hours and hours while they waste your time walking back and forth to their manager. I know of a sales guy who used to sell cars, and he honestly told me that they don't "talk or discuss" whether they will take your offer or not, they just sit in that office and chit chat while you get antsy and p*ssed off. I know she wants a new, or slightly used car, but my $.02 is trying looking for an older model that she liked, one with low miles, good condition, and definitely in a good and depreciated price (let's say an RX330). If you have enough patience to be searching on the internet all the time, you can get an older car with low miles and still CPO'ed by Lexus or whatever brand you're looking at. I remember running across a CPO 2005 ES330 (1 owner, clean carfax) with 34,000miles for (if I remember correctly) $18,000.
  20. Great job USA, our Troops (Josh just to name one of the many who have helped), Former President George W. Bush, and President Obama. For those lives lost on 9-11-01, may they now rest in peace knowing that justice has been served for the cost of their lives God Bless America!
  21. Not to beat an old dead horse, but I just noticed that this car has an auto a/c? I don't read or write Japanese but it says Microprocessed Automatic Air conditioner
  22. It is pretty slow, but quicker than a Prius. It all depends on where you live and what the environment (traffic wise) will be like. Honestly after being rear-ended 3 times in my other car, I definitely need to drive something that has decent power to speed up especially when entering the highway.
  23. That's interesting Steve! Great find!
  24. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else. At a certain point of your life, friends or family always say "When you're ready to sell your car let me know I'll buy it off you!" Well 9 times out of 10 once that time comes to sell, no one is saying anything about buying it. Usually they'll start calling you once you have sold it to someone else or you got sick of selling it and decided to trade it in. Well here's an interesting encounter that I experienced yesterday. A co-worker of mine asked me "Who drives that white 4Runner?" Then I said "That's mine! I drive that if I don't drive the Lex" and she replied "I figured it might have been yours because it's so immaculate and clean". So I go on and thank her (I always get the same comment from everyone hehe) BUT then she mentions "You know what, my car is giving me so many problems and I've been looking at those 4Runners for myself. Do you think you'd wanna sell it anytime soon?" I told her that I wasn't in the position to sell it, and if EVER I do sell it, I would have to sell it at the maximum KBB value considering this is a 1 owner, accident-free vehicle, immaculate and almost scratch-less. So I told her the price, and surprisingly she said "Ok well whatever price is fair!" .. So I look at her in amazement, because never in my whole life that I've sold cars that someone is willing to buy my car at the maximum KBB value. Obviously if I were to sell it I wouldn't lower the price because for one thing I am not in the position to sell it and I just got new Michelin Latitude tires for the 4Runner. It's just too bad that we all talked about it as a family and decided to NOT sell it. Just thought I'd ask if anyone's encountered a similar situation like mine. Besides, I'm not ready to let go of 2 cars within 1 year lol (just sold the CR-V about a month ago)
  25. Keep your head up Josh, life is a roller coaster. It has it's UPs and DOWNs. Can't always be UP and definitely can't always be DOWN remember that ;)
