  1. Seriously tho. Do a compression, and vacuum test & see what shape the rings, valvetrain & intake gaskets/hoses are in. You don't need to swap, or rebuild an engine until the rings are allowing major blow-by. The multi-layer steel head gaskets, simply will not blow. The combustion chambers, valves & intake shouldn't fil with massive amounts of carbon, due to the lack of an EGR system. Until the rings are shot, drive the thing into the ground. Toyota rings are very good quality for OEM parts 2, so expect it to take a good long while more. If you wanna be anal, install an oil presure gauge & drive around with it so you get the feel of what kind of pressure the thing puts out, the same for water prussure. The transmission is easy. Drop the pan. If there are metal parts, you're eating the gears. If there is a carbon/black looking dust everywhere, you're wearing the clutches at a fast rate. Then you can test the transmission fluid. I'm betting you still have over 180psi of compression on every cylinder when the engine is warmed up.
  2. Eh. It'll sell I'm sure. I wasn't a fan of box styling in the 80's growing up, I'm not a fan of the box styling in the 00's. The way I see is I not only think that type of styling is ugly, but it's cheap. Damn it the technology is there to form steel & aluminum into fluid, aerodynamic shapes, but remain astetically aggressive. I see a lot of 300C's on the road, but I have a hard time telling how they're selling. To me, they're so fugly they stand out huge. LoL! MB got the !Removed! end of the deal obviously.
  3. Both have TE1 & E1. Doesn't matter.
  4. Ditto. You *can* use some Camry bodyparts - but it requires modification, at times extensive. @ Which point you ask the question... Why to through the trouble for something that is much harder, not *that* much more expencive & is flat ugly!
  5. Just take a flashlight & look for yourself. If you've got a half descent eye, you can see splits.
  6. Search. That's more covered than Elton John in a !Removed! bar.
  7. WTF Dude are you always joking or something? <_< Regardless balance shaft<s>, an i4 is a very unbalanced engine by design. Big deal that Toyota has used balance shafts in their i4's since sometime early in the S blocks. (Some A's had none). Do remember that the VZ family engines were smoothe because Toyota was able to incorperate five to NINE counterweights to perfectly balance the engine on the crankshafts. The same goes for v6's after them. They have no balance shafts because they don't NEED them. Same for about every other v6, or v8. :chairshot: Army's mom is pimping!
  8. I posted the 1997 FSM's a week ago. Check that. Rear mount is generally a completely pain. The ohers are not that bad. Transmission mount by the driver's wheel can be tricky.
  9. yvw I always say avoid the cig lighter power supply & avoid power supplys that go to the few ECU's in the car. Otherwise, it's about fair game to me. :D
  10. *BLEEP* them LoL! Find your reciepts, or logs of your vehicle. (If serviced at Lexus, call another lex/yota dealer & ask for the service history.) Then !Removed! slap them. You've got an A541-E transmission. Grab a used one for under a grand, have somebody slap it in. Then you can keep it, or ditch it.
  11. A zip program to uncompress the files & something that will read any semi-modern Adobe pdf file. i.e. software that isn't stone-age & universal. If you can't do either, upgrade.
  12. Borla is the *BLEEP*. Beware of the Pro XS line. They sound good - but tend to be very loud (They are a mild racing muffler ya know LoL!) After that... Eh.... Magnaflow - then Apexi. Personal opinion. There is a video on google video. It's a best motoring one & it's like really long. & at the end of it they have a honda doing flybys for 5-10 min compairing JDM mufflers. I found it =) It's a pretty good one. Go all the way to 1:18. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=34...q=best+motoring If you want JDM, that's about all I can help ya with. There are some nice mufflers in there. Some of them just suck, but a few of them are devine! J's Racing bawahahahahahaha What a street car muffler.
  13. Well if you walk into a Lexus dealer the answer is "What's your credit score?". Badam-shich! Otherwise, anywhere from like $150-400 a pair depending on what kinda struts you get. If you buy struts, buy springs. No reason not to do both. My rule of thumb is sometime around 10 years on a daily driven car you'll be wanting new springs. So you've got a 98, if you change struts now, you may be wanting new springs in the foreseeable (But maybe not near) future.
  14. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=26449 Might wanna grab the '93 manual as well. the engine & transmissions are later versions of what's in the 250 & some info there applies in a general way to both.
  15. I just posted the ES 250 factory service manual. It has engine transmission & wiring diagrams. 90% of the time it's the wiring. 10% of the time the knock sensor is bad. 0% of the time the ECU has problems. Take the intake manifold off where you can get to the KS's Unplug the wire. There should NOT be continuity between the temrinal in the knock sensor & ground. (I.e. the outside of the sensor/ engine block). If there is continuity the KS is bad - ditch it. Otherwise start working on the wiring.
  16. WeasyS2S (http://www.sea2skytuning.com/) is a very active member in the Toyota truck & MR2 forums, and has been involved with tuning 5vz-fe's, and truck / SUV's for years. Now he has progressed into deals to having 5vz-fe camshafts made at good pricing. Along with 3vz-e camshafts. (See threads on truck/mr2 forums) Because most mechanical work & R&D applies to both 3vz & 5vz engines, he has been gracious enough to start supplying 3vz-fe cams alongside his 5vz-fe cams. Toysrme himself will be dyno testing various camshafts to find the most fitting profiles. (Hey that's me! LoL!) Cams will range between mild street cams that will gain both power, and economy without sacrificing against the stock cams, to somewhat wild camshafts requiring modifications to take advantage of them. The first sets should become available in early '06 (February/March). Pricing and finer details will be coming out closer to launch. Noone has compared them yet, but there exists the possibility that 2vz-fe cams also use the same dimensions. Anyone that would supply, or could measure a pair of camshafts (with pictures, or drawing a diagram) would be a big help. Merry Christmas. For the record, this is not like past large Camry projects in the past that may, or may not ever pan out. The work is, and has been going on.
  17. ;) 2AZ-FE is nice. It's missing horsepower & rpm, but the torque is at v6 levels. 150lb-ft from 2500rpm+. Much easier to drive an i4 camry around than the competition. (Minus an i4 Altima/Maxima - but they don't compair).
  18. They'll host them once they notice a few links being posted for it. That's why everyone needs to link them. ;)
  19. Fixed w' more manuals. Hosting is not perminant, please help submit them to phat20g so they can be hosted perminantly. They host lots of FSM's. 20. It's the same people either way. Doesn't matter. Just glad to have new blood.
  21. Normally the only warning signs is the fluid & particles in it - then you get shift quality issues & slipping. Don't drive a transmissin that's slipping. So the transmission is slipping, or the gear shifter really is moving to neutral? About like always, flush it. Drop the pan & see what's going on in there. Do a line pressure test. See what condition it's in now.
  22. Don't be sorry, there's nothing to be sorry about. That makes things look really good. =) I just always liked seeing what stuff really looks like better. ;)
  23. Welp he got '93 & '97 done, but he's gonna be far to busy to do any more. Maybe he'll have enough time late tomorrow night to snatch some engine/transmission stuff from the other ones. Will re-upload to a new semi-perminant host sometime in the new few days.
  24. All the foreground/background/shadow tricks make it impossible for us to tell what shape the paints in! :D Looks good! Welcome.
