  1. I've got the H4 PIAA XWP on my 97 Dodge pickup. No problems yet. steviej
  2. what the hell is an "engine bay temperature gauge"? anyway. Are we talking the standard temperature gauge, the one that monitors the coolant temperature? steviej
  3. the easiest thing for you to do, it to go open your door and inspect what you have. Bend and ply the rubber around and look for mounting plates or screw. Look for preformed holes in the rubber, these may be hints to screws inside the rubber. steviej
  4. IS rims fit the ES. Many people have done it. You may need spacers for the back rims though. To make it easier, look at the 2005 17" ES rims. They are almost identical and will fit the ES with no spacers necessary. steviej
  5. rokit, PVC is a white plastic tubing used commonly in plumbing and electrical work. PCV is the abbreviation you are looking for: Positive Crankcase Ventilation. do a search on "valve" and limit it to the ES forum. you should get loads of threads steviej
  6. For aftermarket: try www.jcwhitney.com For Lexus OEM: try www.newlexusparts.com To lower you installation costs by $80 each, install them yourself. steviej
  7. hint for future visits to LOC. The Search function is very helpful if used properly. I did a quick Search (click on "Search" in the menu line above) on remove panel and many threads came up. I opened the search up for threads psoted last week and older and searched just the ES forum. Here is a link to a good thread. try it, you will find most questions you have have already been asked and answered. steviej
  8. it's all in the book. The Lexus Story. available on Amazon for about $25. Very interesting book. steviej
  9. do a search on "expansion valve" and see if the symptoms in the associated threads are similar. This valve was/is a common problem with inconsistent AC temps in the early model ES's. steviej
  10. pretty cold here the last two winters. No heater needed. Just be prepared to warm the car up a minute or two extra before driving off. Also, just don't drive aggressively until the engine is at normal operating temperature. steviej
  11. the V6 is horizontally opposed. If you were to turn the motor 90 degrees so that the timing belt was in the front, then: the front valve cover is the same as the left the rear valve cover is the same as the right. remember Rear = Right steviej
  12. I do, cause it cost me less than $20 and 20 minutes in my driveway. I do it cause I like to. steviej
  13. call the dealership and tell them you found the correct sequence online. jsut for laughs. sj
  14. sorry, in MA they just check codes for now. For a while they were using dynos and testing cars at more reasonable speeds than idle. They haven't used them for a couple years. Sources tell me though, this state may be going back to them. sj
  15. nope, just a PITA that has been banned. And thanks for finding a post that I forgot to removed. It is gone now, I have also removed the content of his post out of your post so he or the post does not continue offend any other member. steviej
  16. it is not a recall so it won't be listed there. The latest software flash is considered a TSB and you have to ask for it. steviej
  17. from experience: Do NOT use that "Liquid Leather" crap sold on TV. steviej
  18. use the search button at the top. If you searched on "maintenance light" lots of threads would have come up. Read this thread. steviej
  19. personally, I don't WANT a nav system because I have an addicitive personality and I would constantly have to update it, mark my routes, fool with it and on and on. I don't NEED a nav system because I am old fashioned and still use maps. Besides, people are always telling me where to go. :whistles: steviej
  20. depends on what you are looking for. sporty looks, performance, low dust, long life, low/no squeal, etc. for low pretty good longevity, ultra low dust and no noise, stick with OEM. steviej
  21. search for posts by member "sunman" and search on the word "navigation". He put a Toyota Nav system in his 97 ES and it looks like it was stock. (Outrageous.) steviej
  22. posting the current mileage would be helpful, Jim. www.alldata.com will give you a list of possible suspect areas. Lexus should be able to generate a list of all services that have been performed on the car by them. I have an 02 and am throroughly thrilled with it. steviej
  23. In addition. 1. was the windshield recently replaced? Bottom corner of passenger side, see if the word Lexus is scratched in the glass. Most aftermarket windshields are not the glass used at the factory in Japan, so they won't have the word Lexus in/on it. If the windshield was replaced it may not be sealed properly. 2. Take duct tape or that blue painters tape. Run a strip along you the seam of your sunroof on the outside. Cover the gap all the way around. See if that eliminates the whistle. 3. Check all your windows and make sure they are all the way up. Close the window on a dollar bill, then see if you can slide the dollar bill easily. It shouldn't. Go to a professional shop that can test for window leaks. They use steam, smoke or air under pressure to to find leaks. You may have a door seal or a window seal that has a gap. steviej ps. keeping it under 80 my eliminate the whistle and help preserve you. :whistles:
  24. you want to find stuff out about me.............use the search button. :whistles: :P Am I to request all pictures taken by other people at lexus meets have my tag number blocked out? Am I obligated to block out the tag number of other cars that I have taken pictures of and posted. It is visible 24 hrs a day on the vehicle. Blocking it out just online means only the sickos are online. So what is to stop the guy in the vehicle behind me at the next stop light from copying down my tag number and finding stuff out about me? I am making myself crazy with this crap. I got better things to worry about. steviej
  25. yeah, that has happened to me several times. I usually get an SQL error. I just swear a few times, log off. It has to be the LOC server because I can immediately (and/or simultaneously) go to CL or ATT or MSN or any other website with no problems. I just go away from LOC for about 10 minutes. Log back in and everything is fine and moves quickly. It happens about 1 to 2x a week. It is not predictable like the Sat evening slow down used to be. I can tell when it is about to happen. I go to post and it take forever to post up. steviej
