  1. www.car-parts.com what about online Lexus parts distributors. They are new parts and cheaper than the counter, but not as cheap as a salvage yard. steviej
  2. my friend had that in her 97ES, except she said hers smelled like burnt popcorn. poor little toasted mice. :cries: steviej
  3. Anyone that owns a Toyota/Lexus V6 (1MZ-FE) should know something about it as letters were supposedly sent to all registered owners. The only catch is that you have to show proof that you made some kind of reasonable proof that the oil was changed on a regular basis. That in itself was a major topic of discussion (about a year ago) that will not be repeated. If you are interested, use the search key. steviej
  4. you had multiple phone conversations trying to figure out delivery and or pickup and then you left them there for 90 days. In that time, since you say you live in the same city, you could have made multiple trips and transported them one by one. It comes down to neglegence when you sue someone. I would say that there is a fair amount on both sides. take it to small claims. steviej
  5. I would start with the fuses. On my 02 ES, they are separate fuses. #44 is the outside rear view mirror heaters (10 amp) #64 is the rear window defogger (40 amp). steviej
  6. Zin, you will find a large difference when you go 15" to 17". I go from 16" to 18" from April to Oct. The smoothness is sacrificed for better cornering on my size change. I don't know if it will be as an extreme from 15 to 17. On a 96, the largest you would probably want to go is 17". You will also find that there are major mixed reviews from members here about the Toyo TPT's. You may find a better/quieter tire for the same price. Also try www.tirerack.com for package deals (mounted, balanced, deliverd). Lastly, the best brake paint to use for durability and ease of application is the G2 kit from tirerack.com. It took me a weekend to do four wheels. I did the front and let it dry 24 hours before doing the back. Car is up on stands and wheels are not mounted while it dries. Kit is all inclusive with cleaner, brush and paint. Price is not bad. I used two kits to do paintable surfaces on 4 rotors and 4 calipers. I have a bunch of pictures and can walk you through it when you come time to do it. steviej
  7. OMG, my dad used to teach that to his students, too. exact same words. small world. steviej
  8. did you check the fuse? did you check the connections at the window with an ohm/volt meter?
  9. my ES had this, but there was a TSB that solved the problem by replacing the gasket around the glass. Every three months or so, I still put a thin layer of spray silicone on it. steviej
  10. he wrote sig, not cig. This is short for signature. That is the personal touch that each member can program to display at the bottom of each of their individual posts. SKperformance's signature has some hints and links about proper bulleting board etiquette. faq stands for Frequently Asked Questions. Go back to the main menu of the ES forum. Look under the "pinned" threads, these are the ones listed at the top of the menu of threads. You will find a thread specific for the frequently asked questions pertaining to most ES models. steviej
  11. call the place that did the transplant and ask. It is the definative solution. steviej
  12. the CEL and TRAC light come on when certain trouble codes trip the ECU. Your car goes into what is affectionately known as "limp" mode, hence the lack of overdrive. It is a protective state to reduce further harm to an unknown sitution. are the codes coming off the new engine that same as the codes from previous? You don't mention what codes were cleared by the tech at the end of you post. steviej
  13. not too mention that OEM pads and rotors are slightly cheaper when purchased online. www.lexus-parts.com www.newlexusparts.com www.irontoad.com steviej
  14. give that man a color TV................he used the search key. From SKperformance and myself.........THANK YOU!!! steviej PS. as you will find out, even though the fluid level is above the minimum mark, Toyota and Lexus low level fluid switches are very sensitive. Add a little fluid.
  15. you can acheive the same results in a softer tone by taking the cap lock off. no one cares if your sentences don't start with a capital letter, not too mention the number of spelling mistakes made by many people throughout this forum. please stop typing in all caps, it is extremely annoying to read. you may find that less people will respond to posts when they are typed in all caps. thanks, steviej. es/is forum moderator. ps. see, i just typed the entire post with no caps. no problems.
  16. why did you let it go 3 months. I would have got them and then stored them in a friend or relative's basement/shed or something. Find out what the abandonment laws are in CA. In MA it is 30 days with proper notice. You conversation describes proper notice. You left them for 90 days. Either way, the shop should have called you if they were going to sell them or "use" them. Small claims court is not big deal. Been there twice. Just have everything in writing and present all your reciepts and contracts (his agreement to store them). Verbal agreements are shakey territory: he said he said type of deal. A couple of phone calls and a letter on your friend's firm's letterhead (as you have already initiated) may help the rims turn up. Keep us posted as to the progess.....this sounds very interesting. steviej
  17. 98es If you are putting the Turanzas on either ES, I would go for the LS-H or LS-V. LS-T is two speed ratings below manufacturers recomendations. They will work, but you may find more "give" than you are used going around corners. Too bad, I don't need tires right now, I would be getting a set of the LS-Vs at that 4 for 3 deal. steviej
  18. chris, in addition to the valve cover gaskets, the real main seal is often times suspect in burning oil smells. steviej
  19. POINT!!!.......Lexusfreak. this is kinda like scoring a tennis match now. :P :D :P :D steviej
  20. ford, that might explain a maple syrup smell and a puddle of green or red liquid on the passenger's floor. How would this explain smoke and a burned petroleum smell? steviej
  21. Bren, you're kidding, right? Directional tires don't come in left and right versions. However, the tire guy has to pay close attention to arrows on the side wall. jbarhorst2 is correct, they just have to unmount it, flip the rim over and remount it. 91L3xus, that tire with the bite taken out of it is an accident waiting to happen. Go with the TripleTreds. My best friend just put them on his 98 Avalon. I am very impressed with them on his car. They are not that expensive, especially if you can find a "buy 3 get 4 sale" or some similar promotion that Goodyear stores are always throwing up. steviej
  22. I suspect it may be a Toyo characteristic. My FZ4s have been doing the same thing for the last 2k miles. I have just over 20k on them now, they just came off the car and I seriously doubt they will be going back on in the spring. I must admit, though, this thread is fun to follow. You each regard and defend your choice of tire as one would defend their home team. The bottom line is that there is no universal best tire, if there was we all would be riding on it. Each person is going to have their likes and dislikes and each person is going to be more or less sensitive to noises at different frequencies and dbs. Each person is different as each tire is different. with that said, please, continue your discussions. It is fun to read. steviej
  23. I understand your situtation, my guestion was rhetorical, I thought digital odometers were tamper resistent. I was just wondering how did he changed it back? The bottom line is you have to get him to get you the title change, put the responsibility on the mechanic because he is the one that changed the odometer. Doesn't matter if it is the right reading or the wrong reading, he sold you a car with a reading on the odemeter that he is standing by. Have him produce a title reflecting the odemeter reading that he stands behind. If he won't, request that he give you your money back and notify the registry if he won't. If he will produce a title with the correct mileage, then I would say you could trust him. steviej
  24. If he was shady enough to do this...:whistles: ← I don't think that is shady in and of itself..........I think it is common practice for many used car dealers to do this. But, I personally think that they (used car salesman) are shady bunch anyway. sk, you beat me to the post. I was going to respond to 94LexusES' post of: Not directly with Not indirectly either! 94LexusES: if you like the car and and it runs great then keep it. Have the mechanic stand behind his work. Have him get the title changed and then turn it over to you. Make him stand behind what he is selling. In addition to the lexus vehicle history check out you state safety/emission inspections. They may have record of mileage when and if the car was inspected. My question is: how can a digital odemeter read one mileage then another and then read a third. I thought they were sealed units. steviej
  25. Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the sensor between the exhaust manifold and the cat in the bank of cylinders next to the firewall....correct. This sensor went on my 02 ES just shy of 40k miles. This was replaced by the dealer under warranty. They did determine (off the car) that the sensor was faulty and had to be replaced. They did say that they have had a "bad batch of these sensors". I didn't pay it any mind because it was fixed under warranty. Bank 2 Sensor 1 (same spot in the bank closest to the radiator) went at around 60k miles. This one cost me $225 from the closest Toyota dealership to me and I replaced it myself. I just replaced it outright and didn't even bother to test the questionable sensor off the car. That brings me to my next question: the sensor that is removed, have you checked it to see if it is in fact faulty? There are procedures for this in Lexus shop manuals. In some instances, there are other reasons that will set off O2 sensor or AF sensor codes and not in fact be the sensor itself. You really can't compare O2 sensors from cars previous to 1996 to post-1996. I say 1996 only due to the uniform adoption of OBD-II in 1996. My current ES has four such sensors. With current emission requirements, O2 sensors and AF sensors are required to operate within much narrower margins. My previous 1993 SSEi had 1 and it would have cost $30 to replace had it failed. steviej
