  1. Dobie, now that you answered my question, I agree with Alan. Get it checked by a sound guy. 2nd guestion.........does the G in DobieG stand for Gillis? The young guys in this forum have no idea what I'm talking about. steviej
  2. you failed to mention a year. For years 2001-2003 it is part number PT577-5302B $280.00 USD. The emblem kit is not listed for 2004. here is a link, http://www.lexus-parts.com/partlist.asp?Su...ID=6&ModelID=16 good luck. steviej
  3. now read it. :chairshot: There will be a quiz on Monday. steviej
  4. The Michelin HydroEdge (~$130 ea.) as well as the Goodyear Aguatreds (~$90 ea.) are awesome tires. Quiet, good in snow, great on dry and unbeatable in rain. However, currently these two tires are only come in a "T" rating and that is one step too low for the ES in my opinion. Some people will say it is fine to do that but the car is rated for a V. The lowest I personally would go on this car is an H rating. I just had the same dilema you are going through on my 02. The stock are Michies expensive to replace even through TireRack.com. In addtion, the Michies, I hear, are not that reassuring in the rain. I went with Dunlop Sport A2's (~$120). Less expensive and give a great ride in rain, dry and light snow. On the down side, they are slightly louder than I would have really liked. In hind sight, I probably would have considered strongly the new Goodyear Eagle- HR (~$100 ea.). Supposed to be quiet and smooth, but it is so new to the market, there are not many reports. I have never had any problems with any Goodyear tire I have owned. My favorite was the original Aguatred (it did come in an H rating). I had my name on a set of ContiExtremeContacts, but they were taking forever to come in. The wharehouse could not get a definate from the distributor as to when they would be in, so I gave up on them. I don't trust anything from Firestone/Bridgestone. That is from experience. I have been told that Pirelli makes some qualilty High Performance All Seasons, but I have never ridden on any. Good luck. steviej Tell you what, If you don't find anything, I will sell you my Dunlops cheap so I can go get the HR's........ok? :whistles:
  5. yes you cetainly did and it was too funny. put the car in park and adjust the radio so you can hear the humming. Does the humming change pitch when you step on the gas and increase the speed of the motor? I am thinking there might be a corroded ground cable or ground connection somewhere. steviej
  6. I think guests are the people who cruise the forum but don't log in. There is also an option when you log in that will allow you to log in but will hide your name from being shown.....I think these become the anonymous members. (or did I get guest and anonymous backwards?) zenlama, be careful when you post. Sometime people hit the "report post" button, then type all there stuff and then hit the post button. They think they have posted in a thread but in actuallity the text goes to a moderator via email. I get these all the time. The down side is the post you type does not show up in the thread you wanted to post to. Also, you might want to copy and repost you previous entry in the LS section of this forum. steviej
  7. Sunoco used to offer 94 octane as there Ultra. Ultra is now their 93 Octane and their premium is 91 Octane. At least here in MA it is. All there stations have new banners exclaiming "same quality fuel with new ratings" steviej
  8. I would actually get the 15,000 mile service done early. That tranny fluid has been sitting for 5 years with little usage. It may be fine, but I play the safe side. Also have them check the belts, they are rubber but also 5 years. Check the boots on the cv joints. A little silicone spray on the boots wouldn't hurt. Also have them do a thorough check of the coolant system. It wouldn't hurt to flush out the system and put in new fluid. Inspect the rubber seal on the radiator cap and make sure it hasn't become brittle. Lastly, load test the battery. Don't be surprised if it needs a little charging. Fuel system cleaning would help. If the fuel in the tank now has been there for a while, it is not good to sit over the winter. steviej
  9. If you are talking the removable carpet mats then best option: replace them. ebay, www.lexus-parts.com, or www.mat.com Two suggestions that I have heard but never tried: 1. Washing machine on hot. Hit the spots with concentrated simple green. Let it soak for a while. Rinse with a hose on highest pressure for that hose. Then once throught the Kenmore on hot. Warning, if the carpets are any bit starting to fray or tatter, the washing machine may be the end of them. 2. Household type carpet cleaner machine: Bissel or Rug Doctor. Treat it like a regular carpet. If you are talking about the carpets under the mats: Then look into one of those rentable household steamer cleaners with a the handheld hose. This way you can get into tight spots. Bissel makes a handheld model for home use (about $40 or so) but you will be limited at the had to reach spots. I have mine done by my detailer.....always come out clean as a wistle and smellin purty too. steviej
  10. are you sure the buld you bought is good? silly question I know, but sometimes it happens that you get a bad bulb. Use a volt meter or a test light to make sure current is getting to the connectors in the glove box. A wire may have been pulled out of the back of the glove box at one time. steviej
  11. do you mean, you can't log in? or nothing comes up when you click on it? I had to call the 1-800 number twice to reset my log on ability. Not for forgetting the password, it just doesn't work if you haven't logged on in at least 6 months. At least that's what happened to me........twice. steviej
  12. Bob, you can read about it in General Discussion Forum > Pinned topic: Warn Link. try here: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=5471& hope this helps. steviej
  13. yeah I do. Those were the cars you could steal with a screwdriver and a mallet. :whistles: steviej
  14. run the car in question throught the "private sale" sections or www.kbb.com and www.vehix.com to get an idea for your area of the country. It will help to know what options are on the car and the actual mileage. If you have the VIN you might be able to run that through www.lexus.com to see what it was shipped with. Since the car has a dent, rate it at good or average to get the fairest fair market value. Don't rate the car as excellent. steviej
  15. get your idle air control assembly cleaned or replaced. steviej
  16. use premium (93 octane), mostly Mobil/Exxon. 22-24 mpg around town. 28-30 mpg all out highway. steviej
  17. I live far enough outside of Boston to make a diffence in my insurance. Clean history, bank financed, full comp/coll coverage (100/300/100), and Lo-Jack discount: grand total = $1043/year. should I have the car registered where I used to live in Boston, it would be over $3000/year. Location means everything. steviej
  18. try contacting several lexus/toyota parts wholesalers: www. lexus-parts.com www.newlexusparts.com www.irontoad.com steviej
  19. unfortuneately the -20004 filter was discontinued in Dec 2003 and supplies have been pretty much exhausted. The replacement filter is -YZZD3 and is now produced in Thailand. Mobil 1 filters are as good as the extinct -20004 filters. It is too early to tell if the -YZZD3 filters are as good or better than the -20004 filters. steviej
  20. check ebay. Both of those items were recently on there. Unfortuneately I am not sure if they were for a 95. steviej
  21. check to make sure the plug wire is on securely. Make sure there are no cracks or bare spots in the cord. Check to see if that plug loosened up. You might want to actually pull that plug and see if it is fouled up with oil or crap (that would not be good). steviej
  22. The STB is going to control body roll more than it will do anything to your AVS. The wires will feed up thorugh the large openings in the mounting bracket of the STB, so there should be no problem there either. There are several on the market that members have. I think the TRD one for the same year Solara is an option, too. My ES came standard with a STB so that is about all I can help you with on aftermarket STB's. I am sure other members will pipe in. steviej
  23. Was this chain Town Fair Tire in Quincy,MA? Sounds like a very similar story that I had. I had taken mine in for a simple rotation front to back. When I got the car back, there was new vibration. I took it back and they tried rebalancing and so forth. They said that two rims were bent and had to be replaced. However, they could not tell me what the runoff was on the bent rims. I had them rerotate the tires and then off I went to a better tire chain in the area. They were able to turn each tire about the rims and match up the supposed bent area with the high spots on the tire and then rebalance the tires while applying road force to them. This type of balance machine that first stated the tires were bent now indicated that the tires were within specifications. Problem solved....for now. It only cost $30 per tire to have this done. Expensive..a little...... but alot less than replacing a rim. Potholes are an everday occurance in New England. I don't know where you are from but you probably have potholes too. Alloy wheels bend very easily when coming in contact with potholes especially at high rates of speeds and when tire pressures are low. The original tire place I went to had the car for the entire day. I don't know if they hit a pothole on a test drive while they had the car or what. It didn't vibrate when I dropped it off, it did when I got it back and their final answer was bent rims. Were they bent when I dropped it off, don't know, nothing idicated they were bent. Don't give up yet. Find another tire chain and explain the problem. If you can get a knowledgable technician to spend a little time, they might be salvagable. steviej
  24. Alan, be careful of the Bridgie RE92 when you get up there in miles. The treadlife is extremely premature and with their tread loss is a dramatic decrease of stability in even the lightest dusting of snow. You are right about the smoothness, they are that and very quiet too. However, when you get over 20,000 miles on them, their character turns on you. Wet and snow traction becomes extremely poor, I would even venture to say dangerous. I just replaced them with Dunlop Sport A2's. Very nice traction in snow and rain and on dry pavement. Downside, not as quiet as the RE92 but still very quiet. steviej
  25. Alan, kudos to you on your persistance and patience. It paid off. Steve, your should do exactly as Alan did and go get your copy and $250 worth of service compted. steviej Again, this is why I don't go for the NAV systems......besides everyone always tells me where to go.
