  1. That's good that he encouraged using math for real-life use. I recall in the early 2000s, speaking with RX330 owners who told me they were averaging 18-20 MPG, depending upon the ratio of highway to city driving. I think even Consumer Reports listed that vehicle as having an average fuel mileage of 19. Ours has always been about 25-27 with a mixture of highway and city driving, but then again, it's a hybrid. The new Toyota Sienna hybrid vans are averaging about 30 MPG - fantastic for such a large vehicle that is not the best, aerodynamically-speaking.
  2. I wonder if Lexus customer service would be able to verify. My guess is that it would, to avoid liability issues.
  3. That's perplexing. Our all-wheel drive system is certainly newer and configured differently, since it is a hybrid. What fuel mileage was he getting on average? Did he ever check by looking at the odometer and gallons to fillup?
  4. From mechanic Tim Charlet: Typically a jerking sensation you are describing is due to a fuel or air restriction in the fuel system, possible caused by a damaged or incredibly dirty mass air flow sensor, throttle body or fuel injectors. However, the first question I’d ask was - when was the last time the transmission fluid was changed and filter replaced? Overtime, the transmission fluid and filter debris can become stuck in the hydraulic lines of the transmission and cause similar symptoms. It’s also common for these symptoms to be more noticeable when the vehicle is at operating temperature.

  6. Our RX400h rolls just fine. Has anyone looked at the brakes? After a drive, carefully touch each wheel to see if any is hot. That would indicate pad-to-rotor friction when no braking is being applied, often.
  7. What year would the RX350 be - 2007? If so, I can measure our 400h, which should be very similar.
  8. Doesn't that code refer to a camshaft position sensor? If so, why are you pulling the O2 sensor? I believe bank 2 is on the driver's side.
  9. Are you sure that you have the exact same seats? I thought the RX500h is a new model. Have you been able to sit in a 500h at the dealership?
  10. Hello, Phillip. Welcome to the forum. Have you checked magnaflow.com?
  11. I would wonder why the strut mounts need to be replaced. I have used KYB shocks in the past and they were very OEM comfortable. See this site for a couple of videos about install tips and choosing the best strut. More Information for KYB 334400 (rockauto.com)
  12. That's good to know, thanks. Do you live in areas that require salting of the roads after snowstorms?
  13. Sometimes the brake pad selections offer two outcomes: 1. Longer lasting pads that tend to squeak 2. Softer pads that need to be replaced often, especially when used with heavy vehicles If a dealership keeps replacing pads with the same type, expect the same results. As a short term brake rotor designer, I learned that there is quite a bit of science when it comes to pad design. Pad manufacturers use specifically placed microphones to determine the source of irregular sounds. Vibration-induced harmonic peaks are recorded, graphed, and analyzed. Ideally a pad/rotor/caliper designer would look at a particular sound problem with a customer's car and determine the root cause. It coud be the calipers/caliper components, or rotors. The parallelism of the pad surface to the rotor contact surfaces is a critical factor. Sometimes slotted rotors help, as they tend to keep pad contact surfaces parallel to the rotor.
  14. I guess it all depends upon your preference of sound. Magnaflow is right here in Southern California, and they make thousands of exhaust systems and separate mufflers. I have one on my MX5 and it sounds great to me.
  15. It may be possible that both are clogged. Our 17 year-old RX400h has no problem with the pumps.
  16. How about the RZ 450e. That should weigh more that the 450h, given that the RZ has a larger battery pack (I would think).
  17. Have you called any auto scrap yards? If you can find a used door, you can always have it painted to match.
  18. Hello, AboveZero. You should read any current or history codes before replacing anything. Have you done this, already?
  19. Hi, Gail. So it looks like you do NOT want snow tires. Is that correct? If snow is a big concern, would you consider having a set of snow tires for Winter months and then all-season tires for the rest of the year? In general, Michelin tires have longer tread life compared to all the other brands. If you want all-season tires, the Michelin Cross Climate2s have better wet braking, hydroplaning resistance, snow traction, and ride compared to the Defender T&H tires. Both types are rated to 85,000 miles.* *Consumer Reports magazine, December 2022 edition

  22. Have you checked the oil level? A low level can cause this to happen.
  23. I'm sure we Americans have plenty of them, Steve.🙂 (Especially within our southern and eastern states)
