  1. Well, now I am learning something.... I thought that the gear selector in 2 allowed first and second gear, and the gear selector in 3 allowed 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear etc..., much like D (Drive) allowed all gears up to and including Drive. If that is not correct, what does the gear selector in '3' select: only 3rd gear?
  2. Fair enough, I apologize to sir. :) I don't want ot put any oil on any fire (pun intended), but I trust the dealer more than I trust the politicians, or, to put it differently, I listen to what they have to say before deciding, which I don't with politicians any more.
  3. Actually, I have found that the Lexus wiper blades are excellent and last a long time. (I live in FL too). Otherwise, I have used Bosch on other cars and they seemed fine. -- A couple of years back, Consumer Reports had tested wiper blades. I don't remember their conclusion, but if you can search their results, that might help. Good luck!
  4. I am no authority and you should call the manufacturers of the oil(s) to verify..... but I always read that the two kind of oils can be 'interchanged' [this why you do not have to flush the engine when you switch to synthetic from mineral]. But don't take my word for it, check with the manufacturers (particularly the synthetic oil manufacturer). Best of luck!
  5. Aawahaha thats funny I kept the Rx300 on a hi octane and synthetic diet, but it was setup for failure The rx300 was born with The Tranny Failure Disease and with all rx300's it was just a matter of time. Initially it was a P0768 Malfunction in solenoid D, that trigger the TFD We rushed the rx300 to a mechanic to perform Open tranny surgery and the bad solenoid was replaced, After a few days complications followed a block in one of the valve bodies so bypass surgery was required after intense week of work all seemed to be good and the Rx300 was recovering well 2 months later the tranny failed ;) The operation was successful, but the patient died.... I remember a thread (was it on this forum?) of someone replacing a dead RX300 transmission with a (only very slightly) used (2002?) Toyota Highlander transmission... said it was a perfect fit and cost in the $2Ks. There might yet be life after death.
  6. Indeed. The Integrity's are the bottom of the barrel. Ther are other Goodyear tires that are (well....) Good.
  7. I have an 09RX350. The maunal implies that he reset sets the warning to trigger at or slightly below the psi at which the ties are at when the reset is initiated. Have you checked your spare?
  8. 9005/HB3 bulbs can be replaced with HIR 9011 bulbs. 9006/HB4 blubs can be replaced with HIR 9012 bulbs. "HIR" stands for "Halogen Infrared". Google and find threads that discuss HIR technology. The bases of HIR bulbs have to be trimmed to allow them to be used in place of 9005 and 9006 bulbs -- see the attached instructions. HIR 9012 bulbs are used on John Deere 9000 series equipment such as combines. The John Deere part number for HIR 9012 bulbs is AH211917. I too replaced the 9005-6 with 9011-12 bulbs on a 99RX300 about eighteen months ago. Results are great. Much more light ouptut with the same consumption of energy. Excellent choice. You should search for the bulbs (Google), since the JDeere ones are not the least expensive. When replacing the bulb types, you will need to partly cut out the flanges of the new bulbs because they are too wide. It is easy to do (or to file down) since you have the original bulbs to 'copy'.
  9. There has been much (and sometimes acrimonious) debate about synthetics vs. dino. oils. I changed my old 99RX300 to synthetic and 'felt' a difference. (Yes, I know, I did not dyno. it and cannot guarantee results, but it felt like the difference between a 'cold' day and a 'hot and muggy' day). So, I would be in favour of it. I have been changing oil every 5000 miles or one year, which comes first (even though my BMW requires changes only every 15K miles or one year, which is first). The advantages seem to be more 'accepted' in a cold weather environment. However, since I changed to Mobil 1 on three cars (old Cadillac Seville, MB190 2,6 and RX300) and each time 'felt' a difference, I am a partisan of the synthetic oil.
  10. For whatever it's worth -- check out: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...t=0#entry371423 I had sent an inquiry to this tobytoyota (or whatever the name), and he told his prices (which were very competitive) and also that the Lexus Platinum Extended Warranty could be purchased until the last day of your existing new car warranty. Let us know what happens. Good luck!
  11. What psi are your tires at? I was just able to check the front tire and its was 40 or 41 and the side said that it supposed to be 32 so it does seem to be over inflated. I will be checking all tires today and making all 32, that should make it better!!! The manufacturer's suggested psi is 30 all-around (on my 09RX350AWD). It was the same on the old RX300 I had. I ran/run both at 32 psi, and am happy. The Michelins on the 09RX show max of 35 on the sidewall. I tried running them at 34 and they were too hard, the suspension 'crashed' a little. So, after a little experimentation - for me and I do not dispute others may differ - I found that the 'best' psi on the new RX was the same as for the old, i.e. 32. Let us know how it feels! Good luck! So I changed all the tires to 32-33 and the ride did get a bit better, but I think eather the suspension here just not as it was on the 2004 RX330 or the bridgestone tires are rough. Not too happy :( A comment on the tires. I was prepared to receive the Bridgestones based on posts suggesting Lexus went with these. As a matter of fact I made a comment of disappointment to my dealer--to my pleasant surprise, my RX came equipped with Michelins. I'm wondering if Lexus changed their approach to which tires to equip. I picked my vehicle up on Oct. 30th. Are others who have recently received delivery getting B's or M's? BTW, very happy with the ride of my RX--I find it better than my 05 RX.... Double reply: 1. If the ride at 32-33psi is tool hard, try 30psi. After all, that is the manufacturer's recommendation! 2. The 09RX had 18" rims, and the car came with Michelins. I believe the 17" rims mostly came with Bridgestones and, maybe, Goodyears. [i had Goodyear Integrity on the 99RX and they are the worst tire I have ever driven. Replaced them with BF Goodrich Long Trail Tour (new design), and the BFG are great: comfortable, good in dry and snow, long wearing.... Maybe slightly less mpg than the Goodyears]. I like the Michelins.

  13. I have ordered/received tires from TireRack in the U.S. in the past and they were reliable.
  14. You may be right. However, the headlights of my RX350 (also adaptive) don't 'jiggle'.
  15. I am sure you have first checked for lose items under the seats. What I would do is try to pin down exactly where the noise may be coming from. Move the front passenger seat all the way forward and sit in the back seat. When the noise starts, bend down and check for the noise pressing in on suspecious areas. Also, try lowering the passenger window during the noise...Hope this helps... I don't know if this helps... I have a 2009RX350. When there is no passenger, the seat belt retracts but the belt (and the bukle) don't lie 'flat' agains tthe passenger seat or the side post. The slight twist means that the buckle 'rattles' against the pst. If you were to pull the seatbelt 'out' a few times and check that it is in the correct position when it retracts, you might eliminate the noise.[i have to do it each time I have had a passenger because - probably due to the seat/back/seatbelt height positions - the seatbelt never retracts in such way that the belt and buckle are 'flat]. Good luck! -- An easy way of testing would be to anchor ('buckle') the buckle and see whether the noise stops.
  16. I haven't seen one of those in a car in over a decade... My 2005 BMW and 2009 RX350 have one each..... which came with the car(s).....
  17. It's kind of fun reading the various comments. Of course, ECT "SNOW" starts in 2nd gear and may (on he older RX300, I believe) maintain slightly higher revs. before changing gear. The idea that a vehicle is uncontrollable when ECT Snow is engaged, vs. 'controllable' when ECT Snow is not, is hilarious. On a more serious note, the newer RX I got (09RX350) came with the 18" rims, and (-- no I did not drive it in the snow though I did in the older RX300 and it was one of the most capable vehicles, ECT Snow engaged or not --) I always wondered how those would perform - the tires that came with the car were Michelin 'Energy' with quite tight blocks and grooves. Checking tirerack, I noted only few tires that seemed suitable for snow (Bridgestone Blizzak/ Pirelli Scorpion M&S...): the others oriented towards more 'performance'. The tires that work best in snow have wider grooves (to let the snow evacuate the grooves rather than pack them) and more 'edges' that can 'catch' in the snow, with more spaces between 'blocks'. I believe the problem some of the drivers reported in previous posts are directly linked to unsuitable tires, which can be downright dangerous on snow if their grooves are packed. In effect, you are then driving a 'snow coated tire' on a 'snow-coated road', and the coefficient of traction is abysmally low. If not chains (studs for ice), the answer is winter tires for winter driving.
  18. It sure seems like a fuse... There are two fuse boxes in the 99RX, one in the engine compartment and one behind the pull-out on the left of the driver's steering wheel (lower dash). The manual contains the list of which fuse applies to which circuits. Sometimes fuses 'look' good but are not. If (and I do not know it is the case) the manula indicates that a fuse covers the power mirror+cig. lighter and windshield washer circuits, it might well be that the fuse 'looks good' but needs to be replaced. Good luck!
  19. I see - sorry for the misunderstanding! It seems to be a neat feature. It's nose knows!
  20. Here is the picture. The red arrow points to the tank in question. Air filter is top left. Radiator is on the right. Here's the close-up picture. Red arrow points to tank. Maybe the tea heater? Probably leads to a tap (faucet) in the cabin wherefrom hot water is delivered to tea drinkers? Ah! Lexus thinks fo everything! (Joke)
  21. I don't know about your 2010 RX, but both the 1999 RX and the 2009 RX I own have auto recirc. mode. It sets - for example - when the car is very hot inside and the outsiode temp. is also hot: it then sets recirc. mode and auto. fan on high and (max) A/C. The only way to avoid it is to turn 'off' the "Auto" control on the climate control knobs (and, conversely, the way to make it work is to turn 'on' the Auto control). I would assume that your 2010 RX also has it: have you checked the manual and conditions that would set it 'on'?
  22. The current issue of Car & Driver really liked the LFA
  23. You might want to consult the following thread: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...t=0#entry371423 I had contacted TobyToyota (or whatever the name) when I bought the new 09RX350, and he assured me the warranty was purchaseable (?) until the last day of the existing original warranty, so I did not pursue further at the time. But the response was prompt, courteous, and indicated a price well below that of Lexus dealers. And, yes, it is the 'same' warranty that would be purchased, registered with, and applicable at, all Lexus dealers like the original warranty. Good luck (plse. let us know).
  24. My 2009RX350 is also "off" by 3 mph (at most speeds 60-80mph). I too believe it is intentional to show a little faster speed than actual -- helps prevent tickets. Most cars do the same.
