  1. When I turn the car off and get out, in a few seconds (5-10), the alarm goes off. Pressing the unlock button on the remote key stops it and I can them lock the car and set the alarm, but next time I start and stop the car, the same thing happens. This started when some knucklehead (that would be me) left a light on and drained the battery all way to zero. I jump started it and the battery seems fine, but the alarm issue won't resolve. A quick disconnect of the battery did not fix it and a longer disconnect (over 5 minutes) also did not. I also pressed the brake pedal while the battery was disconnected, for good measure. It's a Lexus RX300, 1999 or 2000 model year. HELP!!
  2. My symptoms were that when I turn the car off and get out, in a few seconds (5-10), the alarm go off. So far, so good. And by the way, it's a 10-mm nut holding the battery cable (saving you a trip back to the toolbox).

  4. A quick (but way, way delayed) followup -- I finally used the 3M Headlight Polishing kit on my RX300. Wow. It works wonderfully. Thanks to all who replied about the haze. I did not need to take them apart. Just masking tape on the body around the light, then follow directions, using the supplied pads on my drill, from coarse to fine. The kit is very high quality, can be used again, cost around $20.
  5. Later: After I replaced the battery, the problem recurred -- once! My guess is that the new battery wasn't quite charged, or maybe something needed to reset itself. In any event, the problem went away.
  6. I have the exact same problem -- battery died and I jump started it. all OK except when I leave and lock the car, the alarm goes off a few seconds later. If I lock the car using the keyhole in the door, no problem. I replaced the battery (it was weak anyway) -- no help. Looked at several threads, no answers. Help!!
  7. Are you suggesting I read the directions!? Horrors! You're right, I see now. Also see that this is not a 20 minute project so it will wait for another day. I'll let you know how it goes.
  8. The headlight lenses on my 99 RX300 are cloudy and yellowed. I found a 3M kit designed to clean lenses but I don't see how to get them open! I see what looks like pry points between the clear lens and the headlight body and there is a gray sealing compound that seems to glue the lens in place. That's as far as I got. I want to remove the lens, and clean and polish, or replace. How do I get it apart? Thanks in advance...
