  1. anyone have a rapair manual for my 1999 rx 300?? old posts do not work..thanks banzai1@comcast.net I have e-mailed what I had to you. This site doesn't accept more than 2MB per pload, and these files were larger. You will need to find a program that uncompresses "rar" files. I know some freeprograms are available on certain sites - "Google" "RAR/unzip/decompress or something similar to find them".
  2. OK I will drop a note on this forum when we get to MI. Once a week is more than enough... several miles journey, though, for the oil and tires as well as the battery of course.
  3. We drive some 4-5000 miles/yr on each car, but it is spread +/- evenly throughout the year. Last year, I left the RX300 in Michigan for two months+ and the battery was dead as a doornail upon our return, couldn't be charged correctly. When we go back this time, knowing that it will have been four+ months since we left, I bought and used a Black and Decker trickle charger to try to keep the battery in good charge. This charger is very low power (you choose 1 or 2 W) and will not overcharge the battery because of internal circuitry that interrupts the charge when the battery is full. [The trickle charger is said to prevent the battery from drying out, which it would do if a regular charger were connected for the period.] Sears has a similar model that appears to perform identically. They should be sufficient to keep all systems 'go' and the battery charged over time (we hope!). -- We will return to MI shortly after mid-May. Do you want me to post an update on the state of charge of the battery when we get there?

    Lost Key

Based on previous posts, I thought that the limit was related to the number of programmed keys that will work, not a 'lifetime supply'. When a new key exceeding the limit (number) is programmed, I thought it just 'knocked off' the first key previously programmed etc...
  5. 1. Ask him/her 2. If the service was done at Lexus they should have a record of it (can be accessed nationwide by dealer).
  6. I did not know they had a glue strip. If they do, obviously the best way to install them is to use the provided strip.
  7. In Rx330 there is one in the baggage are at the back. Please note that it is through an on/off switch. Your switch on the front may be set to off, that is why you do not have the power. :) Hi, In the rx330, where is the on/off switch located? Im asking coz in mine, theres no switch anywhere close to the 100Volt (AC) outlet. The car also has an outlet at the back but that one is the normal 12v outlet. On the RX350, it is next to the switch/button to open the fuel filler cap. Manual, p 280, section 3.6 'Other Interior Features'. Works when engine switch is in "ON" position.
  8. Yes, my manual says to use 91 octane, which is average of mid-level (89) and hi-level (91 premium)... so, every so often, I put in a 1/2 tank of mid-level. Works fine. Sorry: mistake: Hi-level premium is 93 octane, so 91 is the avge of mid-level and hi-level.
  9. I may be wrong, but I think the trip computer shows both. If you scan through functions, one shows the total average mpg, and another shows average mpg since last fill up. No: The trip computer for avge mpg always resets when filling up the tank. A 'wild guess' is that it is because that is what is used to calculate 'range': so, when the volume of gas changes, the ranges changes and they (i.e. Lexus) set it to conform to the most up-to-date consumption pattern. Too bad.....
  10. I may be wrong, but I think the trip computer shows both. If you scan through functions, one shows the total average mpg, and another shows average mpg since last fill up. TKs. for replying - I'll check it out. I thought it only offered 'instantaneous' mpg, avge. mph, range.... and of course avge mpg (since last refill).
  11. How large are the articles of dust? I have recurring dust on my dashboard after a relatively short time. Dealer changed A/C air filter, dust continues, dealer says it is 'regular dust'....
  12. Just used the Black Mats on my 07IS with tan interior. LEXUS got smart after 07 with the IS and put Black Carpet in the Tan interior option - shows less dirt Dealer in Miami offers vinyl - semi-hard and semi- transparent (think a little like an office chair-mat) - to put over the existing mats. The original color shows through. They are pretty neat, look very organized and 'clean'. The ones offred seems to be from a co. called 'intra-tech' or 'intro-tech', but I saw similar ones on-line from LLoyds. I've had them in the RX for a couple fo months and they are great. I couldn't find the ones sold by the Lexus dealer on-line, and thus came upon the LLoyds ones which seem similar: http://www.lloydmats.com/protector.htm I'll probably get a second pair for the Michigan car when we go up there this summer.
  13. I can't upload one because manual is in car, uncavialable etc... but if you go to: https://auth.owners.lexus.com/lexusowners/a...ssl/OwnersLogin you should be able to register as an owner and look inside your owners' manual.
  14. Check whether your exhaust pipe/muffler is not loose at some attachment point
  15. The limits are more in regards to expected human capabilities than mechanical ones. The German car-makers had entered into a voluntary agreement to limit top speed so as not to engender a competition that would result in major accidents on the German Autobahns. Not all drivers capable of purchasing the faster cars have the adequate reflexes and experience.
  16. It's good to know that, as early as 2004, the seals were improved. Of course: I didn't do the job myself, Toyota did, and I saw neither the new seal nor the old one. I assume that, by now the 'new' seal is the only one available... and it is also good to believe that the rear engine seal problem will not recur.
  17. The 2009RX350 has a feature that I dislike: It resets to 0.0 the avge mpg computer whenever you fill the gas tank. It also has a 'reset to 0' feature that you can achieve by pressing on the 'info' switch. I like to measure consumption over a longer period, resetting it as I wish (which is how the 'old' RX300 worked). Does anyone know how to disable the 'reset to 0' feature when the gas tank is replenished?
  18. Actually, I believe it was available in earlier RXs, but got 'obsoleted' by the rear camera. Of course, many cars have them and aftermarket similar products are available and installation is not very expensive.
  19. =225km/h???? Some 'larger' cars are limited at 250km/h, i.e. +/-155mph
  20. Yes, probably the later build date means Lexus had already re-specc'd their seal material or noticed original seal material was defective. Have you heard of 2001 and later RXs with the rear engine seal problems?
  21. BTW, Camlex, I'm with you on the cooling system, and from what I understand, the oil sludge issues comes from the fact that the 1mz-fe engine has narrow oil passages, which slows the oil to the point it picks up too much heat and can cause sludge. One can go after that issue with an improved cooling system, but I doubt anyone is going to update their cooling system (bigger more-row radiator? machine their block to increase water flow? bigger fans on radiator?). So, we're left going after oil that won't sludge up, or an additive that goes in and cleans out any deposited sludge. There is a thermostat which regulates the flow of water (and the temperature of the water). Even if you double the size of your radiator, the thermostat will keep the water at the same temperature as previously, unless your engine was over-heating before.
  22. I had the same problem. To check whether it is the rear engine seal, you wipe around the seal, let it 'sit' for a short while and see whether a 'drop' forms or whether the seal is again humid and a wipe yields a very oily rag. If you wipe well at atrt, it is quite evident where the oil comes from when it re-appears. Of course, you can try anything to 'revitalize' the seal, but my experience (based on stories heard) is that, even if seems to succeed, it is only delaying tactic and the problem re-appears within a short whole. [i would try it anyway: low cost, no downside]. The cost to change the rear engine seal, which I bore on my own after Lexus 'respectfully declined to assist', at the Toyota dealer in Traverse City (no Lexus dealer in TC) was $1,600. My RX300 was AWD. I was told that a FWD is less expensive, i.e. around $1,200. -- If you have proof of all services done at Lexus in a timely fashion, you should speak to Lexus Customer Service: they are more likely to 'make a deal' with a Lexus dealer and you could face lower costs. They cannot 'make deals' with Toyota dealers, and they opted - in my case - to not reimburse anything. I agree Paul that it is a long shot and not a long term solution, even if it worked. Just thought that a couple of treatments for $50. or so as compared to $2000. for replacement was an easy decision, especially since it would be good for the engine. I would certainly hope that Dhannu would be able to get it done for less than $2000. in an independent shop. We have some excellent independent shops in our area, both Lexus and other foreign brands. They are almost always started and staffed with ex-dealer mechanics and at a lot less than Lexus dealer prices. I'm absolutely with you in the sense that $50 is better than $X,XXX! [To misquote Bauhaus: More $ is less pleasure]. -- As an aside, I would have thought that the rear engine seal would fail based on mileage, not time. My RX had 65K miles when it failed, but was a 1999.
  23. I don't believe they are (but I may be wrong) - my 2009 came without, and the only similar option mentioned to me seemed to be to get 'navigation' with the rear camera. However I have found a neat product which I ordered (and received) but not installed yet: a metallic strip that 'sticks' inside the bumper (front or rear) and senses changes in electro-magnetic field.... I hope it will work fine..... Here is its Website: http://www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk/Parking_...Parking_Sensor/ If you Google "Parking Sensors" you will get lots of choices.
  24. I thought the Lexus pads were pretty good: very little dust and reasonably good 'feel'. I have read they are Akebono ceramic pads, which are available on-line (Google "Akebono brake pads" along with your model if you wish better results). In fact, I was thinking of putting them on my BMW which generates large amounts of black brake dust that seeps everywhere (and it is a convertible and I don't want to breathe the stuff). I would just buy the same pads (but maybe not from Lexus) unless you have had issues with their heat resistance etc....
