  1. I guess it is an easy fx for all those 'check codes'. Who needs to change sensors, plugs, coils etc... anymore? (joke) Well, after all, it's my wife's car. Was it a maint req light or check engine light? Resetting the maint req light is much different than the check engine light. The maint req light tells you it is time to change the oil and get the scheduled maint for the mileage your car is at. The maint req light would not come on after 8 days unless you drove for about 5000 miles in that time period. Jeff The original query was about a RX330 or similar. The comment that came later concerned a RX300. The RX330 and subs. have maintenance lights. The (older) RX300 does not, but it seems the procedure to stop the maintenance light that works on the RX330 et subs. has the same effect on the Check Engine light of the RX300.....

  3. The engine is the V6 that Lexus sprinkles in many of its models. My experience with an RX300 of 1999 (purchased 2003 with 45K miles, now 75K miles) is that I have never had to add oil between 5000 mile oil changes. FWIW!
  4. Check this thread: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...t=0#entry371423 I had asked the price of an ext4endede warranty (3years) at the end of the existing warranty of my 2009 RX350. Cost was a lot lower than you stated, coverage was the "Lexus" coverage, and it could be gotten until the end of the factory warranty.... so I did not pursue it at this time. If your factory original warranty is still in force - ending -, you could check it out... Good luck!
  5. If it is like the 09RX350, you make sure the odometer is set to 'normal' mileage, then turn off engine. Keep the button that changes odometer to trip mileage pressed, and turn key to 'ignition'. After a short while, a message scrolls across the odometer and the maintenance light goes out. You then let go of the button that changes odometer to trip. It is important to make sure you are in 'normal' odometer mode before you start the process, and that you turn the ignition key only after you hve the button pressed. This si explained somewhere 'deep' in the manual. Good luck! Just for grins, I tried your procedure on my 99 RX300. Although I got no message in the ODO window, after holding the button down for about 15 seconds, i released the button and turned the key off. When i restarted the engine the check engine light was out. :) Wonder how long it'll stay out? :( Amazing! (and interesting)!
  6. If the question is "Is this a new site forum?", the answer is "no", and now there are as many questions but one more answer.
  7. The extra wear would be more equalized. In fact, you are partly right: the 'performance' tires on the BMW only last some 17K miles for the rear, and probably 18-20K miles for the front. So the 'rotation' I do at 12K miles is too late. (The BMW, though 2005, only has 16K miles). I should try to aim for 1/2-life, i.e. rotate at 8-9K miles for the coming set. [The estimate I provided for the faster wear in the rear supposes that no rotation would be made]. I haven't done it yet, but will also compare estimated treadlife(lives?) of the next set with the current, and maybe adjust accordingly. I am OK, but not much more, with the Continentals that came with the BMW new. They 'slap' a lot on the concrete and I believe they give less 'feel' than Michelins would. However, as I stated in my previous post, Consumer Reports rated the new Conti DWSs very highly. The thing is that I had used Michelins (many moons ago) when I rallied, and am partial to them for holding up despite repeated abuse(s). But the prices they want in the US are really not competitive, though, of course, I understand the brand's strategy. I had tried some (Michelin's sub.) BF Goodrich T/A Tour on the old RX, and found them a very good tire. Very comfortable, reasonably good 'feel' (an oxymoron where the RX is concerned?), and good on snow.. great for MI year-round. [The newer 'Tour' is the 'cross-over' targeted tires]. It had great Treadwear ratings.
  8. Actually, Consumer Reports rated the Continental DWS as one of the best tires (but this was in "Performance All-season" categories). I didn't check other categories, nor did I look at the estimated treadwear rating.... but their price was quite competitive (at tire rack). I was going to look into it further at year-end when I will need to change the tires on the BMW.
  9. Well, on my 2005 BMW 330CIconv., the front tires wear out about 25-30% slower than the rear. On my old RX AWD, the front wore out a touch faster than the rears. I generally 'rotate' (i.e. front to back) at about 12,000 miles, and generally only do it once during the life of the tires. So far, in 45 years of driving, no problem. Re: the spare - 1. Given prevalent lack of full-size spares, no issue, or 2. Depending on the history of the tires (e.g. if you had to buy a new one sometime during their life, and it is a little less used), I will use the spare as the fourth tire when I change (i.e I buy three tires), and use the 'best' tire remaining for the spare. Given the little mileage one does on a spare and only in event of need, that has been sufficient. When it is necessary to change tires again, I buy four tires; the 'best' one goes to spare. It works. Of course, this assumes that the same make/model/size of tire is available and used for the exchange. On the second go-around, you can change all running tires and keep the old spare if you wish. On the old RX, I changed all the Goodyear Integra (junk!) running tires for better tires.
  10. Check out this thread - Seems like good deals... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...t=0#entry371423
  11. Oil doesn't seem that 'new', so unless you know you changed the oil recently and some spilled, I would check the engine seal (between engine and transmission). Mine 'went' (1999RX300) at 65K miles, last year. -- I couldn't see where under the engine you took the photo, so cannot see where the oil seems to come from. Good luck!
  12. "Lenore" seems one of the experts on matters relating the RX300 transmission in this forum. You might want to search for him and send him a message? - Plse. let us know what the answer is - could be helpful to others. Good luck!
  13. There is a sequence of something like pressing on the accelerator (motor off, of course) for nine times, then turning the key on or off two or three times etc... As advised by others: go to the dealership. In my case, they did it for free. I do not believ ethe information is available otherwise.
  14. FWIW, this summer is I stored my BMW convertible (was away for four months). I used a trickle charger (about $20 or less, available at Sears or Black&Decker etc...); as you suggested, filled the tires to max. stated pressure capability; completely filled the gas tank; had the car 'detailed'; covered the car with a fitted car cover. Four months later, I took off the car cover, disconnected the trickle charger, re-set the tires to correct pressures.... and the motor started first try, no flat spot on the tires, and the car felt like new! With an RX300, in Michigan, for five months in winter in a garage adjacent to house (thus does not freeze), same procedure; same result.
  15. Speaking for the RX: the origin etc... is on a label on the driver's side door jamb. If the VIN starts with "J", the car was made in Japan.
  16. I vcan confirm what I had written earlier: 2 remotes+ card key (which includes the removable 'valet key'). I do not have the 'smart key fob' and start/stop button: I use the key and turn it to start the engine. You might know whether ALL 2010Rxs have the 'smart key fob'. Otherwise, the manual is usually all-inclusive, not 'customized', i.e. it will list and write about options you may or may not have. Why don't you call another dealer and ask them what comes with the car?
  17. I haven't tried it, so cannot vouch on the method -- but remeber a thread previously where the advice was to remove the plastic cover (at the base of the wiper arm), and the wiper arm then can be lifted 'normally. The plastic part can be 'clicked on' thereafter. Good luck!
  18. I had the same issue with the 'tilt' of the sunroof on my new RX350 (it would close and re-open). I knew I would be taking it to the dealer, so I thought I would try all combinations.... Raised it to 'tilt' and then 'opened' the sunroof and closed it. Weirdly (it must be a 'reset' procedure of sorts), the sunroof now works perfectly in all functions.... Or, if you don't feel like trying that, I would call the dealer and ask the procedure to 'reset' the sunroof.
  19. The reply probably is in the manual, which you can access on line after registering at Lexus.com if you wish to do so. I would note that there is a button (was it in the glove-box?) which prevents the rear hatch from power operation. You should check if it has been pressed or set accidentally. Good luck! Wow you know what? I changed the cabin filter yesterday and I remember that button. I remember thinking "hmmm what is this button for? let me press it to find out" I pressed it a bunch of times. That must be the problem. Thanks! I was ready to take it to the dealer and pay them 1 million dollars to push the button for me. I will go check it now Well, that would be a neat solution! Let me know!

  21. No I didn't get the nav, the back up monitor was a stand alone option that listed for 350.00 I think. When we agreed on the price my options were Premium Pkg, Heated seats and the backup monitor. FWIW: When I bought my (new) 09RX350, I was told the camera came with the nav. package, but was unavailable otherwise. I have since had (rear) parking sensors installed. They work fine, indicate the distance (in inches) to contact quite accurately, and cost $190 incl. install. The parking sensors that you had instaled...were they Lexus or after market. Lexus dealer do the install? As I ordered my 2010, this is something I couldnt believe Lexus has not included, even more that they have the back up camera. Even my Ford F-150 has both the sensors and camera. They were not "Lexus" sensors, because I had read that one could not get/have installed parking sensors by Lexus. It happened by chance, when I had bought an "Autotronic" (or some such catchy name) that one attached to the bottom of the license plate, and performed similar functions. I installed it, but did not want to undo the various upholstery items needed to feed the buzzer into the cabin on my convertible BMW: I thought it was simpler to go to an (auto) alarm installation place since they would know the routing etc... As I waited to pay when they completed the work, I noticed they sold a 'set' of 4 'back' (and also a set of 8 for front and back) sensors. They make the holes in the bumper skin, install etc... for the $190 (which beats $490 that a friend paid to Ford, and the $1,400 that a friend refused to pay at MB!). However, the sensors come in black, and they (over)-charged me $100 to have them painted the exact colour of the car, so my total cost was $290. [if the car is black, no painting needed; if it is a 'simple' colour, a Dupli-Color Spray would cost +/-$5.- and take care of the job]. Very clean install, they look fine on the bumper and the display on the inside (which they set just under the base of the windshield, in the center) is perfect. The only gripe I have is that, when you move from P to D, the buzzer 'chirps' then emits a 'dying chirp' that bugs me, a very minor inconvenience. Had I know they offered them, I would have had then installed in the BMW. I find the overall price remarkably low. The alarm installers are called "AutoTech" here in Miami. Sorry for the length of the post. In summary, I would suggest seeking out some alarm seller/installers and checking out the products they offer. On the other hand, if Lexus accepts to install, why not? Good luck!

  24. The rear hatch struts usually have a longer life than 6 years - mine (on the '99 RX) lasted nine years. You can get them on-line: (see: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=0#entry330684) the forum member blk_on_blk found the best place to buy them and also had a very clear 'how-to' guide gor the RX300. Good luck!
  25. ... Replying for the sake of filling space. On my 09Rx350, I received two remotes + a "electronic card" which contained the removable "valet key". Procedure is to use the valet key in the locks and fire the engine while holding the rest of the electronic card - which contains the 'chip', close to the lock so that it allows starting the engine. If you go to lexus.com, register and check out the manual etc.. for your car, you will get the info you seek. Good luck!
