  1. Imagine the headache of being involved in this thread...
  2. My guess would be yes...
  3. Hey guys, I'm buying a new laptop for business. All I am doing is word processing, internet, processing pictures, spreadsheets, some publisher documents. Every once and a while I'll play a game or watch a DVD when I am travelling. I am trying to decide if an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2.1ghz, 2MB L2 cache, 800mhz FSB is enough or if I should spring for the 2.0Ghz, 3MB L2 cache, 1066Mhz FSB... The computer has 3GB of ram....
  4. Nobody is saying they are a burden on society, but you can't argue that from an environmental standpoint we're not better off with more efficient cars on the road. Well seniors can't afford cyanide now...they work at the grocery store when they're 85 just to be able to pay for blood thinners. It'll be an upgrade.
  5. Its a shame. Cocaine is a very white collar drug though, you'd be surprised how many prominent members of society you know that use cocaine...
  6. Oh I'm not saying you should do it...I'm just saying you have to understand why the pricing is the way that it is. If the benefits have no value to you then you shouldn't spend the money. Lexus is owned by Toyota, but it is not Toyota. Most Lexus owners are happy to just spend the money at the dealer and never even go through this thought process... they'll be fine. Thats what all luxury car dealers charge...
  7. LOL! Right...the specific numbers only matter if they agree with what you are saying. When they no longer agree...the numbers don't matter. You're the one who referenced llumens and comparing them to halogen bulbs and you were happy to do that when you felt those comparisons would back up what you were saying, but now that they don't somehow I'm the one bringing numbers into the equation? You posted the numbers, not me! Do you read what you type? You should be a politician... Actually it was your assertion that HID lights put out the same llumens as a halogen bulb after only 1,000 hours that made me question the result in the first place...and you yourself have proved to us that was incorrect...so I guess I was right to question the result since the result was wrong. Just because the effectiveness of something degrades over time doesn't mean it "must be replaced". Using your logic we should replace struts at 30k miles, replace tires when they reach half their treadlife, do a 4 wheel alignment at every oil change, replace wiper blades every month, replace the battery once a year...because the effectiveness of these things degrades over time too. Everything works better when its new...nobody is debating that. You however are telling people that they should spend their hard earned money to replace things before they need to be replaced. Just because something doesn't operate AS WELL as it did when new doesn't mean it must be replaced. We've established that HID lights are still putting out over 50% more llumens than halogen lights at 1,000 hours (120k miles or so) and 25% more light than halogen after 2,000 hours (approximately 240k miles or so)...and you assert they "need to be replaced"? They don't need to be replaced, they would operate better certainly if they were replaced, but they operate just fine and safely as they are. If you've got gobs of discretionary money lying around...and don't care about needlessly discarding bulbs filled with very environmentally destructive chemicals...then feel free to replace them every couple years so that you always have "optimum lighting". Don't however try to say they "need to be replaced" because you are wrong.
  8. You can definately do it yourself...
  9. I'm not the one criticizing...you are. I was perfectly happy to have a discussion with a fellow member of the forum. If you have a problem with that...then thats your problem. In the future when I ask other members questions...keep your thoughts to yourself. If I ask you a question then feel free to respond, if you can't handle a back and forth discussion. The only negativity or aggression here is yours. I simply asked him why he bought the car if he felt that strongly about the wood color, he said why he did, that it was a good deal and the car was in great shape and it was the only way to get into the year he wanted which makes sense. I was in no way denigrating him, or making any judgements about his car. In fact...I like that interior and that wood so I don't know where you think my "hostility" is or how I'm "making people feel bad". Concentrate your judgements on yourself. In the future when you see someone "crossing the line", contact the site's management team. You aren't a moderator on this site, so leave the value judgements and posting guidelines to us, huh? Got a problem with me? PM me about it. You jump to these conclusions. I remember after they banned you at CL, you totally brought that on yourself because you simply couldn't understand why they didn't want you selling wood refinishing to the members there. All you had to say was "Ah okay, I understand" and you would still be a member there today. Instead you flew off the handle and started accusing the management there of saying and doing and meaning all these things they just didn't say, do, or mean. Learn to lighten up and go with the flow a little.
  10. Happy birthday Blake!
  11. I want that 45 seconds of my life back LOL ;)
  12. I dont think RX400h's suggestion was to answer the OP's question, a lot of cduluk's thread discusses things to address AFTER the battery is replaced. The site is a wealth of information...and oftentimes yes you can find answers to your questions by searching. Whether you want to replace your battery or not before it fails is a matter of personal preference. I would replace them after 3-4 years personally.
  13. I didn't post the data, you did! It very clearly doesn't support what you were saying. Of course output degrades over time, Jim and I weren't disagreeing with that but the statement that HID lights put out the same llumens as a standard halogen light after only 1,000 hours of use was what he and I both didn't believe...and now we see by the data you posted that it is not accurate. You THINK you do. Thats the problem. You just proved yourself wrong man...we don't even need to try... You obviously remembered wrong by your own admission: If you are going to make a statement...be damn sure you're right. Double check your facts before you post them...thats what I do. If you are going to reference the graph...you might want to...I dunno...look at the graph! I asked you to produce this graph and when you did...lo an behold...you were wrong. Lets recap. This started with you saying that after 1,000 hours your HID lights only put out the same llumens as a halogen light. Now after I have pressed you we find out according to your own sources after 1,000 hours HID lights still put out 1,000 llumens more than a halogen light, and even after 2,000 hours they still put out more light than halogen...and I'm looking at "scraps" and being a jerk and not listening to any viewpoints that aren't my own. So I should just let you post things that I know are inaccurate in incorrect? The backpeddling is hilarious...first it was 1,000 hours, now its First it was 1,000 hours...now its "a few thousand hours"...just admit when you have misstated instead of pretending that you haven't.
  14. I wasn't offended muffalones, nor was my intention to offend you or anybody else nor was it my intention to imply that you somehow weren't a true "Lexus-owner" (whatever that means). Any frustration you sense from me (and there isn't any...) isn't directed at you. I simply asked you a question that you answered...and that was that. Everything you said makes sense...I was simply curious. I'm not the one driving this discussion cduluk, you are. I asked a very simple question, if there was something about the car he disliked that much then why did he buy it? If he had just responded with exactly what he responded with the discussion would have been over and everybody would be happy. You were the one that responded to a question that wasn't directed to you at all and started the discussion that led us to this point. He responded to my question and I posted my viewpoint, I think its a shame when people compromise when they buy things and are dissapointed down the line. Again...nothing negative...nothing hurtful...just a discussion...then you come on and call me a "debbie downer" and say that you didn't think that a trim issue should keep someone from buying something they want...so I responded TO YOU and further clarified my viewpoint. Again...nothing rude or unfriendly, I just answered your question. In each instance, the discussion would be over if you had not responded for me further discussing my viewpoint, and continually getting more aggressive towards me in trying to tell me I'm wrong for believing as I do. So don't try and blame me for whatever issue you think that we're having here. I didn't post a statement saying that I really dislike the color of my car and was wondering how to paint it. If I had then a very reasonable question for someone to ask would be "Why did you buy the car if you really dislike the color?" Thats not a hurtful or denigrating question...its just a question. Stop putting words in my mouth and implying that I have said and done things that I have not. God...what a drama queen... Get over yourself kiddo, all I did was ask a simple question, next time don't respond to questions that aren't asked of you and this won't happen. I spend a great deal of time posting in here and helping to grow the forum and have been doing so for many years, if you don't want to post here...then leave. Unfortunately you burned your bridges at the other Lexus forum too as we both know. Sheesh you remind me of some pharmacist named LexKid630 that used to post here...
  15. Wow... Yep, the ES does it...and I think the Prius does too but I'll double check...
  16. Definately, you just have to walk up to the TL with your eyes closed ;)
  17. Naa...I have zero interest in doing the work myself even if I could. I work so much it would actually wind up costing me more to take the time off to do the work than to just pay the mechanic...
  18. Actually I think $47.50 is very reasonable for an oil change at the Lexus dealer. You have to think about the source. You can't expect Nordstrom to charge the same for a pair of socks as Wal-mart would...even if they are the same socks. Nordstrom spends more money on decor, location, comfort, training their staff, paying their staff who tend to be more experienced in customer service. Totally different operations. As it is for the Lexus vs Toyota dealer. For the Lexus dealer to run their operation with all the additional overhead they probably have the same profit margin on that oil change as the Toyota dealer.
  19. But your graph disproves what you were saying. Here is what you said And here is what you said after posting the graph If their original output is 3200 llumens, 70% of that is 2240. According to your graph a new H1 Halogen bulb puts out 1800 llumens. So using your numbers, an HID bulb after 2,000 hours still puts out 640 llumens more than a halogen bulb...how does that prove what you said which was that after 1,000 hours HID bulbs put out the same as a halogen bulb? If we use your numbers we'd estimate the HID bulb was still putting out 85% of its llumens after 1,000 hours, or 2720, 1000 more than the new halogen bulb...
  20. Yeah the brakes take some getting used to, its the regenerative braking system. The HSD won't cut between gas and electric on the highway, only around town...
  21. If it was something that I disliked so much that I considered spray painting over it and buying a cheap auto parts store wheel cover to hide then I absolutely would not purchase the car. Of course its a factor. A Lexus is not an economy purchase and its a luxury item, I would no sooner buy one that had something that disgusted me so than I would buy furniture that I didn't like or buy a shirt in a color I hated just because it was on sale... These cars are everywhere pre-owned, and you have to live with the purchase for a long time. I simply do not understand why you would buy something you hated...instead of saying "I love my Lexus" every morning when you get into it you immediately say "I hate that wood..." Not me...
  22. Are you SURE it doesn't slide out? When its over to the side pull the visor straight back... Slides out on my ES...and all the other Lexus cars I've had/driven and our Prius.
  23. Its how the EPA tests the cars for their published figures, not the math involved in calculating MPG...so the computers aren't affected...
