I've had several wavy/nasty aftermarket windshields, and its very hard to make the rain sensor work on a third party windshield...OEM all the way...

They have a LOT of equipment and entire models in Japan that we don't have here...and the cars are cheaper...does that mean Americans are second class citizens also?

What a pain... Have you looked at the 2010 Prius? In the US you can't get all the tech goodies and the Package V...I think you can in Canada...who knows why.

Yeah that is going to be an impossible job without the proper tools. I can say you are definitely the first I have ever seen. Might be too early for a tranny to go...but it sounds like this particular car has had a pretty hard life... Let us know how it goes...

Yeah, my advice would be to find a good independent mechanic instead of worrying about trading or paying for an aftermarket warranty...

I know several people with GX470s and all of them are very happy with them. The 3 series BMW has never done anything for me though. I have a friend that loves them and has had 3 or 4, all converibles and the convertible is sharp, but the sedan has always looked dumpy to me. No way I'd trade a GS for one, JMHO. In terms of reliability, the 3 series seems very reliable. Its the 5 that has a lot more issues, I have a buddy with an 03 530i that he put $10,000 into last year in repairs... I can't imagine the cost of living here would be that much worse than in Chicago...

I will say...statistical data overwhelmingly supports airbags as a crucial component of vehicle safety. Thats just not even debatable...in a low speed collision they may seem dangerous or a hassle, but hit another car at 45 MPH and come back and tell me airbags are pointless...they're not. You may think that a "death grip" on the wheel kept you immobile in a serious accident, but even at fairly low speeds it is just physically impossible for you to overcome the inertia with your own arms. With that said sorry to hear about your accident...

You don't have two fobs? Yes have the two fobs but dont like toting both of them around. Don't you carry keys? Just leave the fob on your keychain and it won't be an issue.
