  1. This guy on Ebay has his done. LS400 1993. Is it ok if I do this. Posting another's page here??
  2. Well, since we are talking about Lexus shops in NC. Can some tell me if there is a small Lexus shop around High Point/Greensboro.
  3. The first website have excellent info.
  4. Dogboy, I have noticed that you have another topic started about "Bad Strut" when I frist purchased my 1993 LS400 last month. I also started two different topics about vibration and struts. So, I guess these things are not very rare and probably come together at once, maybe.
  5. My machanic and some people in LOC told me that my strut bar is damaged by that it makes this "clunking" noise like hitting two paint cans together. The noise comes when I turn hard, hit a bump but doesn't happend very frequently, but surely it is going to get worse as time passes. I realy don't know how often it makes this noise as of now because, I always have music playing. (My car does not have the air ride suspension option)
  6. Yes, the problem is solved. I took AP Statistics last year and I was also interested in collecting data from other people too and comparing them to my car. Thanks
  7. No, but thanks though. I was just wondering if there are other things. Like replacing some major components that cause the MPG to decrease. Or like on some Commercials on TV, I think its called Max something, it is purple in small bottles, that you put in your car and gives you better mileage.
  8. nice!!!!!! Its very detailed, specially the inside.
  9. And everybody, Thanks for taking your time to solve my little problem.
  10. UCF3, I am 17 years old, High School Senior. Only worked for one month all my life. Right now looking for a job. Anyways, the last owner warned me that it takes alot of gas. But I was just wondering that is it just my car. Since from my point of view it was a little bargin. $5,800 1993 LS400 146,000 that it might have problems. The reason why she sold it was because she bought a newer Lexus LX470. Today, I only idled for 1min in the morning and 20sec in the afternoon. I just heard that not warming your engine may cause it to seize. I guess it is just an old myth, "not from a machanic." I live in High Point, NC I was searched for a Lexus for 1.5 years. There was one in the paper for $6,500 1994LS400 134,000miles and it got sold the right next day after it came in the paper. So, I had to get this one. I never thought that I would buy a LS400 since it is a V8, the PRICE and how rare they are to find under $10,000 with descent miles. There are few people who have new expensive cars like a 2000 BMW 3-series and 2000 Discovery. But I'm the only one with a $46,000 car and a LEXUS. It is well worth the price, price of parts, gas and everything else.
  11. 1. Flow Lexus 611 Edgewood St Kernersville, NC This is the one that 1-800-25Lexus "1-800-255-3987" recommended me to go to. Check in the yellow pages at www.Yahoo.com there is the one named Johson Lexus. But I don't know if he performs 90k service. Here is the link to this yellow page.
  12. I think the reason that nobody replied is that nobody in LOC lives in NC. I live in High Point, NC. There is another expert "Tansupplyman" his from Greensboro, NC. He knows alot, try to pm him. I bought my Lexus last month but haven't taken it to a Lexus dealer. 1. 611 Edgewood St Kernersville, NC
  13. In the future, I might repair and replace things that are causing the car to make a "clunking" noise, vibration at 70mph and other things that are causing uncomfortable ride, also bushing. But, now I'm seeing that it is not just my car, it is a common problem if not fixed in the first gen. Any links or websites where these common suspension problem parts are sold? Give links to parts of any Gen. it might help someone else.
  14. This is how I tested. When I bought the car it had 146084 miles. Thats when I pulled it out of the last owners drive way with FULL tank. At 146200 the full was in exact middle. So, I figure that the fuel tank holds 22.5 Gallons that would be 11.25 (22.5/2) Gallons used. So, 146200-146084= 116miles. 116miles/11.25gallons= 10.31MPG. Is this an accurate calculation? Nobody drives this car except for me and I only take it to school. Which is 10miles. 20miles around trip, each day. And I can physically tell that it drinks that much gas by looking at how much the needle drops after 3 days. But I do idle for 10min. I'll try to drop it to 1min. The temperature is around 20C here. But when I pull out of the school parking lot to come home in the afternoon I start the car and pull out in about 30sec., but still get the same results, in the morning and afternoon. I can physically compare the morning and afternoon gas consumption because the needle drops so much without doing any calculations.
  15. My strut bar makes a "clunking" noise when I hit a bump. People here at LOC told me that it was the strut bar making the noise as well as my machanic but I don't know how the bushings are? I think it is called adjmust/shimming for vavles, think I need that, because engine makes a noise like tick, tick, tick. The last owner told me his machanic said that it is not harming the engine in any way. Are these things playing a role in the MPG issue.
  16. Anyone have any pictures to share of thier interior, with aftermarket Dash Trims?
  17. Sounds like a good ride :D Lower ball jont controls the "play" in the steering knuckle. As they wear, the front suspension will get loose, won't hold alignment, etc. The classic symptom of worn ball joints is "wheel shimmy". The LS has Upper suspenion arm that is a wishbone design. It connects to the upper part of the steering knucke while the lower arm is just single, staight design. These arms have "ball joints" for connection and rotate/swivel every which way to allow for bumps, turns, etc. Also, a strut bar is connected to the lower sus. arm and it has "bushings" that wear out. If you push down over the wheels (on the fender) and it doesn't pop back up nicely that is sign of worn struts. If you drive over a small pothole and hear a big "clunk" sound the struts are probaly shot as well as some bushings. All of these things happen to our LS's over time. Just a function of normal wear on the suspension. 1993LS400 146,000 miles. Sounds like you just drove me car!
  18. I follow the exact driving tips you gave us. Execpt that in the mornings I warm the car up for about 10min not 10-30sec. I'm going to print this list out and show it to my machanic. But what is a 02 Sensor, he is just a local machanic but knows about Acuras and Toyotas, will he know what 02 Sensor is? And what is the exact job of--"Optional: getting an ARC recorder that plugs into your OBD1 ECU." Thank you very much. I think spending money on these repairs, if they work, will save me more money overtime; rather then filling up the tank every 5 days.
  19. I have a 1993 LS400, 146,000. I only get 10.5 MPG in the city, in rural area. Every day I go to school and stop at about 3 stop lights then the speed limit is 55mph after the third stop light. Total miles to school is 10 miles so a around trip daily is 20miles. After the third signal there are 8 miles to go, “when going.” What I am trying to get at is that I don’t stop very frequently and drive at a high speed but still very poor miles per gallon. I only use Premium gas. And take off very slow, no flooring. 1. What kind of Lexus you have? 2. Year? 3. Miles? 4. MPG? Got any tips or suggestions on how to increase MPG? Every gallon helps!
  20. We are talking about a 1990-1994 cars with around 150,000 miles. Mine has 146,000 miles 1993. I have two other friends who have 1992 LS400 with around 140,000miles and they say the samething. This car might not be a gaz guzzler when it comes out the factory but over the years that V8 becomes something. And it gets 10.5 mpg in city on Premium. And type of gas does matter. I tested it on a 1992 Acura Legned LS, used unleaded and recored the miles then Premium. I got more miles per gallon on Premium than unleaded or whatever is lower then Premium, both of them in city and on the same route.
  21. I have that valve problem, my machanic said it would be around $17 to $18 per valve or less. The LCD is not a big problem but that will be $200-300. Another thing that I have ran into and so it other 1st gen. Lexus owners. Drive this car to about 60mph-80mph and see if it vibrates or difficult to handle. Another issue that I have and seen others have is Strut Bar problem and sometimes bushing. Check the Kelly Blue Book Value. "www.KBB.com" One of the biggest things to see on these Luxury cars is that just about everything is powered. So check all the elecronic comonets there might be some that you migh not test. Like if all the switches work on each door and etc. The steering wheel has a cover on it, take a peak under the cover and see if the wheel covering is damaged, not a big deal but something that I would look at. If you want to remind yourself about little things, there are alot of website that have checklist on used cars. List of things to check when expecting a car. I don't know I you had a V8 before or not. The first time I called the owner of my car, she told me that it is very powerfull and eats a ALOT of gas more then a her SUVs, which would be LX470 and a subarban. If you don't put premium gas in it most likely you are only going to get around 10-11mpg. Also, it will be a good idea to pull CARFAX on it or give the VIN # to a Lexus dealer and they will tell you all the maintence done to it from a Lexus dealer.
  22. 1993 LS400 My parents have Toyota Camry and they put in a security system from Circuit City with two remotes. After that, if you start the car and all the doors are closed the lock. And when you take the key out of the iginition the doors unlock. Like parking in your drive way and put the car in Park and take the keys out of the iginition and doors will unlock automatically. Since the LS400 have a remote key to unlock and lock the car do they do this? Because mine don't. I don't have a battery in my key so I don't know if it is programmed or not? Thanks
  23. Well, just to add on to this topic. I have a 1993, LS400 146,000. My front tires are a little worn but ok, I guess. I had aligment, rotated the tire and balancing done, just couple of days ago. My car kind of wobbles in low speeds 10-30mph. At 80-90mph it gets a little nasty. I do 80-90mph every day for about 45sec, on a straight, coming back from school. Anyway, The car is really hard to control at 80-90mph. Because on the same road I passed someone doing 115mph with a 1992 Acura Legend LS 119,000 and if there wasn't that bridge uphead I would have gone up to 135mph. The acura was alot easier to drive at 115mph then the Lexus at 80mph. Plus, I think I need a new left strut bar for the Lexus. Both of my cars are just about the same color and the Lexus is only a year younger I love both of them the same. I see the Acura as a sports car, drive it if I'm in a hurry. And the Lexus drive it when I miss flying in First Class.
