I might be a little help in this situation. I just bought my first Lexus last week. LS400 1993 146,000 miles. $5,800 Leather: 9/10 because the back seat is a little damaged, from the windshield shattering. Things need after I bought it: 1. Alignment 2. Rear tires replacement but I just had them rotated. They are not giving me that much trouble right now, but at 80-90mph that’s when they show there sign of replacement. If all 4 are replaced then it will float even on 100 mph. 3. There is that Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick noise from the valves. These are the problems that I encountered as of now. Since, I bought it last week.

Why don’t the indicator on the instrument panel light up, when the doors are opened and the seat belt are not fastened. The indicators that light up if the doors are opened and seat belt is not fastened. Both of them are beside each other. I'm talking about when the car is started, don't come on when it is in Park, Reverse, or in Drive. Is there a button that I need to press ON or something is broken? :(

I had the tires balanced. And I had the tires rotated. The machnic showed me that the front tires need to be replaced because from the inside they are begaining to go in, wearing out. But the key problem was balancing.

YUP, you guys were RIGHT. I posted this topic a night before you guys responed and took it to my machanic the right next morning. He told me the samething and he did the balacing for FREE. Because I had my aligment done and rotated the tire a day before and he said that it was his fault that he didn't do the balancing. I didn't drive the car after this but my dad took it up to 90mph and thats when it starts vibrating a little. And the reason is because the front tires are bent in kind off from the inside. So, if I replace the tires as well then it will be perfect even at 160mph. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I took the car to the machanic the same one that I have been talking about in last hundered forums. LOL. Said, that tick, tick, tick, tick noise is because the valve filters need to be changed and each one costs about $17 and as you know there are 32 of them. But he said that hopefully not all of them are damaged. The last owner told me that his machanic told him that it is the valves and it will be costly. And it should not be a problem to the car or damage rest of the car in any way. **Are these two guys right, especially the second one*** When I had the oil changed it was real black or bad. So, the last owner didn't changed the oil on time or at least for that period. And my neighbor told me that that valves get damaged and the car is making that noise because the last owner did not change the INEXPENSIVE oil change. *even though I found out that the last owner spend $650 worth of repair and replacements 20,000miles before I bought it, "all 8 new spark plugs, 4 brake pads, etc..................* What an Irony!

When I go over 60 mph the steering wheel starts to vibrate real bad which makes the whole car vibrate or the whole are virbrates and make the steering wheel vibrate one of these! Just had the aligment done. And tires rotated. What could be the problem? *New tires need? Thanks

My 1993 LS400's chip keys are in terrible condition. What can I do? 1. Can I buy those blank tops that sold on the internet for about $17 and lose my luxury of the remote. 2. Can I get some for the Junkyard or some other place ***if there are any*** and take the metal part out and put mine in them. * Also take the chip out of the old one and put mine in. (Is this even possible)? 3. Any internet links for this issue? Thank you.

I just bought mine few days ago. 1993 LS400, The car is preaty big and I think that 20' rims will look very nice on it if they will fit, I don't know. If I have the money to upgrade it I will put spinning rims on it, hopefully. And by the way, I'm new to this website and I think that this is the best website I have ever encountered. I try to answer other people's question if I know the answer, as much as I can. I come to this website about 4 times a day or more. The members even helped me out on whether or not I should get this car or not. I would recommend this website to EVERY Lexus owner. This website really makes me proud to be a New Lexus Owner.

I don't know any leather repair professional. I live in High Piont, North Carolina. But if I do find one, I will be interested in getting the work done from them though. Thanks

Hey, I have a LS400 and a Acura Legend. The leather in LS400 is only damaged because of the back windshield shattered. But the Acura legend has a real bad drive seat and in the back bench there is a rip and it seems like that small rip is getting bigger. So, I was wondering if someone has used leather repiar products for any of your cars. And do they really work. Or are they just like glueing the seat together with super glue. I have met some dealers when I was shopping for a car. They were restoring the leather in a Acura Legend. I think they were putting new leather in. Any comments or suggestions on any of these topics? Thank you.

UPDATE: I had the car aligment done and rotated the tires from the back to the front and front to back and the wobbling has decreased dramtically.

I had my mechanic look at it, and he couldn't figure out the problem. How would you physically tell that the sway bar is damaged. Yeah you are right they are very heavy, that could be the problem!

I don't know much about cars from the inside I just know there value and what they come with. The the tire belt you guys are talking about how much is it to replace one just an estimate. Thanks guys.

No, there is no noise at 2-3 mph after breaking. The noise comes when I am going at about around 40 mph and hit a bump or a new rough road patch.

My 1993 LS400 has this noise in the rear left when I hit a bump. The sound is like if you take two paint cans and hit them together on top of each other. I am suspecting that may be the left muffler is loose. Because my friends Acura Legend had this problem but the sound was little different. I checked the muffler to see if it clamped right and it seems like it is. So, I don’t know what the problem is?

I have a 1993 LS400 but I don't know how this might answer your question but it relates to the valves. When the car is started the engine makes a sound like tick, tick, tick, tick..... like an old Mercedes Benz. The old owner told me that he took it to his machanic, who was that car's machanic since they bought it, and told him that it is the valves. And it is kind of expensive to go throw and fix the problem and siad that noise is not damaging the car in any way.

The guy who I bought it from said that the tires are about one year old and from today and he also mentioned that it is time to rotate them. I don't know how that may help. But I can really tell the car needs aligment because when I am going straight the steering wheel is tilted to the left side, like as if I am about to make a turn. This may help reduce it. How much do you think it will cost to get it back to normal?

I have a 1993 LS400 with 146,000 miles. The car kind of shakes or does something called "bubbling," I think. When you go from a 0 to about 10 or 15mph slowly the car wobbles until I hit about 20mph. What could be the potential problem?
