  1. Welcome aboard, the LS you picked out looks fine, they are a sweet running machine... I used to have one that same (outside) color.. they are very well built... and solid. cheers, bp
  2. WELL, I dont know about yours, but my poping is gone, the links took care of it... silence is wonderful. good luck on yours..
  3. sorry, I meant I could not move the NUT(to get it loose), I didnt try moving the links, I'll try that tomorrow.. but I am going to replace them anyway, since I have two 97's I dont mind having spare parts.
  4. not to my knowledge, they are right behind the wheel, I could not budge them, also my 76 year old body could not get the lower nut loose, will go to the shop tomorrow and let them give it a try.
  5. you will be missed... 95-97 excellent choice. I can drive anything I want, within reason, and these are my choice. good luck to you..
  6. no, mine had the struts and upper mounts replaced right before I got it, in fact the noise is why he sold it. then I replaced the bars and fixed it. now (a year later) i get the wheel rise/fall thump. if it isnt the links at least they are not costly and I can put them on. and I will check the bushings also. and heat or cold brings no change, just the action. more later.. bp
  7. I went ahead and ordered new sway bar link kits. mine cant be the brakes, I just put new pads on the front at Christmas. if it stops, I will post.
  8. One of my 97's had a bad pop when I got it, we replaced the strut rods and cured it, this was about a year ago. since that time on occasion I get a light pop like you described. In my mind I wondered about the sway bar, but forgot about the end links.... I have a certain "bump" I go over, where the left front wheel rises and falls sharply and it sounds off then. I will have to check that out .... let me know if you get to it first.
  9. There is a 1995 LS for sale in Dallas with 473,000 miles on it for $2150 take a look: http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/ctd/1554017220.html not too shabby.
  10. And all this time I thought you were "making it up"? ;) Thanks for the link! Yeah, he is not all that smart....................... but he knows where to look, that must count for something.... US weaklings look up to you....
  11. LISTEN TO THIS MAN..... if you have no wobble or pulsation, just pads only. The anti squeel I used, went on the FACE of the PAD, not the shims, check out what you are doing, ask the auto store, they should know
  12. So does that make you "Billy Diddly"? :P more like Billy dumb... I picked a small group, Transmission, opened each one, saw what it dealt with, kept its "line item#" and added the name of the item it was dealing with, torque conv, shift lock and so on. that will take a loooooong time. but if I live long enough, I will zip it and share it.
  13. These PDF's are just a bunch of files downloaded from the Lexus/Toyota Techinfo website -- same as some of the CD's sold on eBay. I don't think there is an "index" although I guess someone who knows how and has the time could build a clickable index menu. I've got the hard copy so I nominate you, Billy, to build an HTML index menu -- it's not all that difficult ... it could be done with MS Word. boy, you are allllll heart, I'll diddle with it and see.
  14. I just replaced mine and used pads only, rotors were not turned, they were true, no wobble or pulseing. reused all old hardware, plus anti squeel.. quite as a mouse and VERY solid brakes.
  15. Yes, thanks, I got it (download), do you know where the index is?? Hey Billy, After you dnld it just copy it to wherever you want and it should unzip to a folder called "2000 Lexus LS 400 - Complete". Open the folder and the directory is right there. ;) yes, I did that and it shows the "sections" AC, Body, Cooling & so on.. but when you enter one of those, you have a mass of PDF's without any identificaton... is there an index for this?
  16. Yes, thanks, I got it (download), do you know where the index is??
  17. where in Dallas are you? call me 972 395 0678 I'm in carrollton.
  18. OK, my LS's are 97's it seems like most items would be the same, excusing some accessories. but the basics, motor, (not the transmission, I know) suspension, rear end, brakes .. right? if so, billydpowell@hotmail.com Now I am a retired mechanic, so I would not use these as a "last word" but a guide.

  20. One of my first gen's did the dim-bright thing, I removed the battery cables from the battery, cleaned them and the battery post up, put them back on and no more problem.... I learned the hard way a battery post will oxidize, but look clean, and still give you problems. good luck on yours (get a second generation). cheers
  21. since we cant know anything, here is a guess.... maybe your pump is getting weak, from age, sludge, restriction in lines, screen partially blocked, something like that, since higher rpms will bring it back. just a school of thought... I would do a LOT of cleaning.. cheers. bp
  22. Are you sure you cat converter is not stopped up?? giving you too much back pressure?
  23. I'm working on my back and have the alternator off...but not OUT...doesn't seem to be a way to drop it on down and out without taking some hoses off...I'll have a warm garage and a lift in my next life. Well from one old man (76) to another, welcome to the club.... this place has so much information, it is incredible.... I read it daily... cheers...
  24. Wow! I thought the 98-00 LS was an incredible change from the 95-97 LS: Automatic leveling HID headlights Vehicle Stability Control -- the most amazing electronic automotive gizmo I've ever experienced 5-Speed transmission with a Mercedes-like shift gate -- 5-speed boosts fuel economy over 10% more horsepower side airbags "de-powered" front airbags that are safer for smaller people (like my wife) brake assist on the 2000 LS The above changes are the ones most important to us. A pretty good summary of the changes for all model years is at http://www.lexls.com/info/lsgenerations.html I am not against all the improvements and safety features, more horsepower better fuel economy and such, they just didnt impress the old 75 year old body I live in.... I just compared the ride and handling between the 95-97 and 98-2000 .... I dont worry about one getting 2 or 3 more miles per gallon than the other, I dont go much anymore... I remember, from 20 to 50 I had to have the BEST, now just good is ok.. I really enjoy these post, keep it up.. take a look at the cars I have owned below.... you'll see,
