  1. yep, pull codes, probably get a 1349, if so do a search and follow instructions... just a little Maintenance..
  2. You dont have to spend BIG bucks to drive a LS, but you have to shop around for them... I have been retired since June of 96, and lived with social security and what I saved... I have had 5 different 99LS's... but feel good with the 2 I have now.. they both are quiet and have the soft feeling my 79 year old body desires... SO, you dont need 85k to drive one, or I would be driving a Camry.. well that is my 2014 declaration, Have a Good New Year !!
  3. My 99LS has 17" chrome wheels off of a 2001LS, I like them because there is not a lot of them....
  4. Dallas area, Texas basic Liability for two (2) 1999 LS400's, no work, pleasure only, I am 79 until June. 728$ per year. 364$ each Safco Ins
  5. you drive even less than I do.... in Dec 2012 (above) with 230, now it has 238.... I have never owned one with under 100k... could have, but seeing how good they are, it was not necessary..
  6. just do a search on 1349 vvt oil control valve... it has been covered many times
  7. why are all the photos turned every way but the right way??
  8. your post made me think of Murphy's Romance, think I'll watch it tonight.. looking back, I believe we have all learned things by experience in the school of hard knocks.... keep your chin up, you'll be fine... money can be replaced.. Texas would be happy to have you... come on.
  9. sure, first, read the codes, see what they tell you, and then do a search to see what others have done... there is no blanket statement that covers a CEL..
  10. YES!! It will reach the point when it just clicks.... You need to replace the solenoid kit. your old one will look like this..
  11. Take some fresh photos for us..... here is my 94 right after I fixed it and later with some new wheels...
  12. dont panic about the water pump and timing belt, you should have some time to get it fixed.. my old 94 had a busted original belt at 234k miles. and I bought it knowing it did not ruin the engine, replaced them and it started right up and ran good... now dont wait that long, but dont panic, do what you have to to quite it down (EGR) and make it run good and let your mechanic help you find parts at a reasonable price..
  13. It does not need to be new or perfect, just serviceable. if a hole is torn, use a washer.... who is going to look.?
  14. Check this link and see if it helps you.. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-second-generation/699826-pull-codes-p0172-p0175-need-help-diagnoising.html
  15. once I bought one (10 bucks) off of a guy parting out his car on craigslist (I had to take it off).... and I would think a salvage yard would be a good place to look.
  16. on my old 94, it failed, and codes said cats, I tried every cheap way to cheat it, didnt work, bit the bullet got exact fit new ones and it passed.... so hope you do better with SRK's test, but stay away from welding cats on... my dad said a hint to the wise is sufficient..
  17. the starter is not a big deal that requires high tech skill..... but it takes a lot of time to remove the intake manifold and lay your parts out to make it easy to replace them... we have done two of them, 95 and 99.. we did not need to replace the starter on either one, just the plunger and contacts.... maybe this will help..
  18. you might want to check your codes also.. your 02 sensors should tell you..
  19. Hi Nate, welcome to the club.. do like Richard said and check out http://www.lexls.com/ and read up,
