  1. wasn't there a rumored 2006 supra? for ppl low in cash can wait til the new supras to come out first.
  2. sportcoupe, i seem to be unable to PM anyone, so we can organize a meet on this thread if you dont mind. i can do it anytime this week. and well, if you dont mind, i have 2 12's and 1 10inch subs in my car that takes a lot of work to take out again, so i prefer leaving it in there. <---if i lose, i won't whine about them in there. would you liek to check out the MR2 i raced too? we can do a 3-car race. joedoc, when you ground your car, everything works better. your ecu works better also. i think it's a pretty vital upgrade many people do not look into. my friend dropped a B18 motor in his 91 SI and it was running terribly rough. it took us about 2 months to realize that it needed to be grounded better. we grounded the engine to the shock towers then to the battery (using the shock tower like a distributor). if you are looking into this, dont buy those overpriced grounding kits. all you need is some 4 gauge monster cable and tongues. let me know if you need further assistance.
  3. i too love the 92-96 style, because it's like the building foundations of the sc's reputation for good looks, and i own it. =) hm...i'm also thinking about standing out a bit, but i definitely want to retain the original look. so im thinking of getting some nice chromes and dropping the ride to the floor. except it will mess up the car ride......
  4. ...and you can't step back, gaze at your precious, and say, "damn...i made that sh*t..."
  5. i havent bought the dragon tc yet, but it will come. i have a buddy across the street from where i live with a 2700rpm tc in his sc400. he advise me, unless i use it primarily on the track, then i should get it, but dont if im just driving around the streets, jerky motions (especially when you're stuck between gears) is expected. hope that gave you an image of what it's like better than it did for me.
  6. and if you want to challenge any of the things i've posted that refers to skyline or the instructors of skyline, you can PM me and i will give you contact informations.
  7. okay...there seems to three topics being discussed at once, so il try to lay it out clearer. power/weight: 92 sc400: 3575lbs divided by 250hp = 14.3lbs/hp 92 mr2 turbo: 2888 divided by 200hp = 14.44lbs/hp (more weight per horsepower) **the information i got here is from skyline college of san bruno, california where they are sponsored by toyota crazily, almost every car, even the notorious trueno, by toyota is in this school. ALL of their info is straight from toyota. weight reduction: what weight reduction?? no idea where the 3200 figure came from, except i took out the spare tire. BUT the mr2 have 17'' chromes, and remember, they come with 14'' stock rims. Lexual: as for takeoff and torque. i too thought the MR would get a better start, but it didn't. we both had a very good start, both of our tires chirp'ed but no one stood still and peeled out, so i thought it was a great start for both and it was a tie for both until i reach about 1/8 mi and took off. don't believe it? i say you try it, that ONE race does not guarantee all of the sc's and mr2's race results. **i may have won thank to the BFI and resonators taken off. just by looking at the old air box compared to the BFI, im sure many of us can tell without taking the car to the road that there will be a difference. I also grounded my vehicle adequately because it was suggested by the instructors of skyline college. they say it would give me bigger sparks, GO TRY IT and tell please let me know your experience. <---if you think what i have said is foolish, then you must also think that i didn't beat that MR2. but too bad i have no reason to lie, he (mr2 driver) is a fantastic stick shift driver and he knows his car very well, and yes, i beat him. speed limiter: i never hit it either and i went passed 110 before.
  8. what re you talking about? your friend has a fuel cut defencer. one of a variety of fine products made by HKS. the fuel cut defence splices into the Stock ECU and overides the built in saftey function that keeps you from over boosting. (like you KINDA said) anyways i dont know if you are familiar with turbo's but your friends turbo is not staying on longer it is just boosting higher. i would venture to say that you mean the wastegate is staying open longer but then again if your unfamiliar with a fuel cut DEFENSER i doubt you would be familiar with a waste gate lexual, where on this entire forum did i ever said anyone owning an HKS fuel defenser. and since you are correcting my linguistics, you should check the meaning of defenser and disabler, they are synonyms, if "defenser" is even a word.
  9. was it suppose to beat me? if you compute the power to weight ratio of the 92 MR2 Turbo to my model of the SC400 which is the lightest -i think 3600lbs due to lack of options like heated seats or trac control- i would win anyways. well for correct numbers: there are 14.5 lbs for every horsepower in the mr2 and i beat it by 14.4 for every horsepower in my car. and if you look up quarter mile times for the mr2 turbo and sc400, they are almost identical, except my year and model is the lighter of the sc400's.
  10. excuse all those typos from the previous post, but right on bean!
  11. well since everyone was so quick to judge my friend, i jsut gave him a call to let him say something. he said it is formally called a "fuel cut disabler". "your fuel cuts off when your ecu reads that you've said on boost too long and cuts off fuel so you dont blow your engine. i let the stay stay on just a bit longer, but enough to make a win/lose difference."
  12. he showed me this little device me actually put together using capacitors, resistors, transitors and all these crap i didn't know about. maybe he was just fooling me, but he's at his final stages of being a certified mechanic and he's taking the automotive ECU class, i dont think he has a reason to lie. maybe something we havent heard that doesnt do much to go spend money on? but comon, dont call someone stupid because they may (or not) know something we all dont.
  13. well, i've posted this topic up a while back about my sc400 going up against my friend's mr2 stock turbo. many you the experts of LOC said that they'd bet on the mr2 turbo. well, i took him pretty good, so good news to the SC community! here's what the MR2 had: above 80% of stock compression HKS blow off valve brand new clutch that just been broken into TRD short shifter and he said he did something that made his turbo stay on boost longer<== i'm not super familiar with turbos my SC400 had: also above 80% compression, i think mines is even a little lower, i forgot the exact numbers. BFI resonators taken off hella ground wires, and i rewired the power cable so we both are almost completely stock
  14. sounds like the alternator in its last stages of its life. when you step on the brake, you give less gas to your car, less gas means less energy for the alternator. you can hook up an alternator tester/battery tester to your battery, wire it to your dash and see what happens when your car begins to die. but i doubt you have to do that, i'm pretty sure it's the alternator.
  15. just another thought you may want to know: unless the battery is deep cycled, you might as well return the 1 week old battery and get a new one after fixing the problem. regular batteries arent meant for draining and recharging, it will loose it's life time a lot sooner.
  16. well more specifically, if you have an aftermarket radio or stereo system, check the remote wire. that's where your unit get signals to know when to shut off, it can be loose. amps are notorious for that.
  17. is it still doing it vmf? i'm leaning towards throttle issues, sounds like it didn't get enough air and therefore it idles lower <---at least that's what happens when you set the throttle sensor to the lowest setting. can it be your mass air flow sensor acting up.
  18. i definitely have plans for the torque converter, i just need to save some of my student money up first. upping the compression ratio sounds nice OKSC3, but can you be more specific? if you're talking about advance sparks, then i'd have to retune the ecu. i'd rather deter from messing with the ecu for now until i have more adequate knowledge of them.
  19. could it be your fuel pump? my other car did that except it didn't started up again, and it was indeed the fuel pump.
  20. have you guys solved the problem? here's extra ideas to add to the list: check the throttle position sensor, last time i played around with that, i got jerky motions. try not to set it too low since at higher rpms, ul starve of air. <---also cause your mpg to go waaaaay down, so check that too. is it the right fuel cap? some are vacuum, vented, and nonvented <---there's a difference.
  21. what is a good way to get some low end torque, besides mufflers, etc.? i'm not sure about the sc300, but with the sc400's, they seem to lack low end torque. i find myself playing a -catch up- race instead of first to take the lead.
  22. i see.. i heard if you have a too wide of a pipe, you can loose power. what is the name of the wholesaler? 165 is very cheap and i'm very interested, dont mind if i totally bite off you, except the 3'' pipe.
  23. hm...all this talk about mufflers is geting me hyped up about it. does anyone know which muffler out there will make a sc400 sound super mean and agressive but not hella loud and annoying? lexual, where did you buy yours? i dont know much about exhausts, what do you mean by 3 inch inlet? thanks.
  24. mikee, every oil change is on file huh? mine had every refuel trip recorded for its whole life when i bought it. i was lucky to have a previous owner like that.
