While I don't agree with what the dealer is doing here, the "backout" clause goes both ways. Just as you can walk in there and say I changed my mind, I want my money back, they can pull the offer and stop the deal as well. Only when you can no longer back out are they just as committed by law. I agree, you can go in there and make a case for the point of the matter, and appeal to thier business ethics, I think you will have to make alot of noise, and is it worth it? That's up to you. I still think you could take that contract to another dealer and get your car. That is after all the goal here right? Then I would take up the point of the matter seperately.

It's not the same engine at all. This one came stock with over 300 hp and turbos. Check the pic , vvt and twin turbos from the factory. yeah, but with out the turbos, it's the same motor. Why not just add turbos to the exsisting motor? Alot less money,and hassle. ( The 2JZE has the same internals as the turbo version,ie: pistons, connecting rods, crank and so on.) If you remove both turbos and adjust the ecu for n/a, it's essentially a 215 hp 3.0L I6 2JZE motor.

The traction control system is designed to stop the tires from spinning and slipping. So when you step on the gas and the tires start to spin, the traction control system will flash a warning on your dash, and you will feel the car momentarily lose full power while the car regains it's grip. the traction control is on all the time, but some people like to be able to step on the gas and spin up the rear tires a little, and not have to worry about the tcs kicking in and spoiling the fun.

Alright, the reason a tranny flush becomes a bad idea is because if you don't change the fluid out every 30,000 miles or less, the fluid breaks down. This in turn creates tarnish. When you do a flush, you wash away the tarnish, and that leaves pits and spaces between the speed bands, gears,journals, and valves. That's what creates the problems. Tranny's start to slip, and won't shift etc. etc. If you have gone more than 30,000 miles without a tranny flush, your better off not doing it at all after that point, and after the tranny has reached about 100,000 miles. Just leave it alone already. Your only taking unnecassary risks, and probably causing the problem. Unless your running a transmission cooler, which Jibby is correct, makes your fluid last longer as heat is what breaks down the fluid in the first place. And Jibby, the machine your talking about is the Ranger, RT-15X trannsmission fluid exchanger. ( My dad has one at his shop.) And your right, it's a nice toy to have around. ;) So, it's at this point that just draining a little at atime and replacing it slowly comes in as a good alternative to a full flush.

Or, you could take that contract to another dealer and play the " if you match it I will buy" and remind them of thier advertisements stating such. That piece of paper you have is exactly what they ask for when you go and try to price offer match. When you find a dealer that bites, get it, then drive it to the first one and tell them how your gonna tell every freind you have and post it on the forum about how they couldn't do their own deal, and " Mr. Smith's Dealership" could.

I guess it depends on the kid really. I don't think of the IS 300 as a "first car" though. It's just too much car for someone starting out. Like a Mustang Shelby. It's just not a good idea as a first car. this car has been around long enouph also that there is alot of aftermarket support to make that car even faster. ( Just look at my signature!!!) LOL!! The IS 300 is a target car. People usually buy this car because they were looking for it specifically. But on the other hand it has 6 air bags, traction control, rides great, reliability is very high, and on and on and on. There are so many things going on in a young kids life these days,,,,if he has a 15k budget,( and by the way, 15k? nice parents!!!!, wish I had 15K to buy my first car with.) I would seriously consider a new car. Then you get a warranty to cover the "issues". etc. etc. and the resale value will be higher then to help himself buy the next car. Especially when you consider the Mitsubishi Lancer is 13,500 new!, A Mazda 3, Toyota Carolla S, and Saturn Ion all under 15k and brand new. I would hate to think he would be upset that his parents made him get a brand new car!!! Let's look at it like this. He's 16 now. 2 years and he's 18 and the lexus is now 8 years old, or a 2 year old new car. Now college? 4 years ? 12 year old Lexus or 6 year old new car? That's a big expense for someone coming out of college to have to buy a new car right away. 6 years old car is a much better place to be at then yes? Parents just spent what a couple hundred grand on college? and now a new car again? I don't know, kids are so impulsive and want what they want. Atleast I'm 37 now and spend my own money.

Right on!!! Sounds like you got a good deal. The car sounds great, and your 20k was well spent. So what color is the car? Do we get a pic? The air pressure is from the car sitting. No big deal, but important. And bro, I warned ya about the brakes. I would get some EBC greens on there before those cheap metallics ruin your rims. For gas mileage you should be getting around 20-22 mpg for all around. ( Hwy/city). Short funny story- I had to take my wife to Miami from Orlando (280 ish miles) to her mothers and drop her off, they were riding back together seperately. So driving down I averaged about 27-28 mpg. I drove 64 mph the whole way!!!!!!! On the way back however, I had fun with a few cars and pushed the pace, probably hit 100-105 a few times, maybe a little more for short distances, probably cruised at 85-90 most of the other times. ( Yeah, I know, I was just havin some fun.) Anyway, I used a whole tank of gas for the ride back. I think I got about 16-17 mpg. Uuhhgg!! Anyway, good job, your patience really paid off. I think you got a much better car than that first one you were looking at !!!!!

You've really been a great mentor to him. :D you were lookin? He did all the work. I was just a voice. Maybe we could get a moderator to pin it to the top of thier " Home" forum? Like if they own an RX then it would be posted there for one month. The title would say " Car of the Month" and under the description could be their board name and auto they drive. I vote Rya heads it up and makes it all happen along with a Moderator like Bartkat. Just throwing up ideas. anyone else? We could form a voting board consisting of say 3 to 5 gold members. We would meet here and put up our nominations. When it was decided then that forum would get the banner. Yeah, maybe a banner where they put some of those useless adds instead????

I guess I don't understand why they did an engine swap for the same motor, but ok. Looks good. How much for the car? I would be leary of the stock manual tranny.

I would think tires are the more major factor in wet driving conditions. The Lexus has a way better stock suspension than the VW. And with traction control standard on the IS 300, your definately stepping up in performance and capabilities. I live in Florida, and it rains every afternoon during the summers. ( Hard!!!) I have Michelin Pilot Sports on and I don't slide around at all. I'm sure I could if I tried, but I have very little hesitation in driving a curve and transitioning apexes smoothly even in the rain. The IS 300 has a much wider stance and a lower center of gravity, so body roll is way less, which helps provide alot more traction. And well, you know,considering the car weights a couple hundred pounds more than an IS 300, and with that amazing 100 (ish) hp at the crank, meaning 80 (ish) hp at the rear, oops, I mean front wheel, I don't know that's it's even possible to spin the tires...... So I would imagine that driver restaint and control will be an issue. LOL!!!! Yes, Toyota can do the services for you, Flop 170 gave you a list of options, it's also here on the forum someplace. I think I saw it the other day. Yes the car had Xenon HID ( with a self leveling feature) , Good tires are Michelin Pilots, Bridgestone Potenza, Goodyear Eagles, Pirelli P6's. The Toyota 3.0 L I6, known as the 2 JZE motor is one of the best engines ever produced by Toyota. You will not have any issues there. The Cd players were the only issue I know of, but in the 04-05 they fixed that.
