I think that makes perfect sense. Expensive cars shouldn't be a priority, unless you have everything else you need with a few extra dollars left over. Lexus' are a luxury, not a necessity. Trust me, if i had a mortgage and debts to pay, i wouldn't be giving my kid's lexus'. But i can afford it, so i will. My kids understand they have to work hard to earn big things. In 2 years my son will be making more than i do, it's not like he's mooching off of me. He worked hard in high school, so i rewarded him with a nice car. He appreciates it more than my wife appreciates her lexus. It all depends on the child. I still think there are things you buy for someone, and things you buy for yourself. If kids work hard and earn thier way, then that's what they are supposed to do. And the rewards they will get are alot greater than any car you can buy them. And why is it that all rewards seem to have to be material ones? I think the lesson that kids need today is : "I cried because I had no shoes, until I saw a man who had no feet."

This won't be what you wanna hear..... As for the clear bra, it is what it is. If your not happy, have them remove it and find someone else to apply it. As for the wax job, never, never, never let dealer have soemone do it. They use "some guy" with a mobile operation so they have no liability or responsibility. And that "guy" who "specializes" is almost allways the guy who just does it cheap!!!! I'll bet he used a direct drive buffer and just messed up your clear coat. And now the only way to fix all those micro scratches is to polish it and wax it. But that just covers it up for awhile, they allways come back. Can you post a pic of car with the surface showing the scratches?

Srt Intake Vs. Joez And Blitz Drop-in
smooth1 replied to heyoceanfloor's topic in 01 - 06 Lexus IS300
The SRT is essentially the same intake as the rest. The reason it costs more and produces more hp is because of the piggyback ECU chip it comes with. If the intake is all your gonna put on, then it's a great choice. But your looking to do more than that, the better option and set up is to put on an intake, then a header and exhaust or what ever your looking to do. Once you have it together, get a programmable and have it tuned for max hp. That's the ideal way to go. So the Joe Z in my opinion is a better choice for the the long run. -
Sounds like you might not be that far away from needing a tranny rebuild then.

Well I plan on starting with an exhaust, leaning towards a tanabe or apexi N1, then some tie bars to stiffen up the body, and maybe some cross-drilled rotors and new brake pads/calibers as suspension upgrades. Maybe an AEM CAI. But that's pretty much it. Any suggestions/recommendations would be great. Me? Have some sugestions? HHHmmmm,, If you go with the Tenaba, get the medalion Hyper series, and if you go Apexi, get the GT class. (Although I have to tell you that the Apexi is kinda loud and I thought it had somewhat of that "ricey" sound. But some people really like that sound, and if that's the case then it's a great pipe. Have you found some chassis bars you like yet? Are you planning on getting a big brake kit? or stay with the stock size rotors? I guess I'm confused when you wrote brake pads/ calipers as suspension upgrades. Did you mean and suspension upgrades? Yeah, sorry mistype. Plan on getting a big brake kit. Any onecan suggest one? Stillen? Stoptech? Brembo? Yeah man, all three will you stop you quick. I like the Brembo's, but to be honest, all 3 will work great. Are you getting new rims?

But what if the car went 100k miles with no tranny services, then the owner replaced the fluid and filter say within the last 3,000 miles? Then you still wouldn't know anything or assume incorrectly. What, less than 3,000 miles ago? Because after that, it's all the same. I would challenge anyone to tell the difference between tranny fluid that is 5k miles and 60k miles used. I've changed so many tranny's out and flushed and you name it, and there is no way you can tell the difference by looking at the fluid.

Welcome to the LOC!! Sounds like you got a good deal on a very nice car!!!! I actually like the first generation better anyway. And the IS 300 is faster then the 250 stock. So are you going to be doing any drive improvements and mods? Over obcessing, and police radar. B)

I agree with you. When I was a kid I had to mow lawns on the weekends and after school to earn the money to buy my bicycle, and other things I wanted. Not because my parents couldn't afford it, ( my dad owned a very successful business, and still does.) but more to teach me about real life. Today, I see what I think are huge mistakes by parents "giving" thier kids way to much. When you look back in history, you see that we as a people allways grew stronger and closer when faced with adversity. When we were forced to overcome obstacles and challenged to go beyond limits. This new " Give my kid the posh life that I never had" mentallity is like using antibiotic germacidal soap on everything in thier lives, and never allowing thier immune system to develop. I would buy him a $2,500.00 car that has ac, and runs good. Then after it breaks down a few times, he may decide he can work on it himself. What great practice for later in life? And discovering he is capable of such things. Or that he is not the mechanically inclined type. So he will need to figure things out. Think of it as a puzzle that will challenge him to grow. Heck, my parents bought me an $1,000.00 69 Camaro POS!!!! That car became my right to manhood!!!!
