  1. You could also check into a Clear Bra. This is either a static cling clear plastic or 3M makes a stick on product that is razer cut, much like vinyl lettering and contours to the front of the hood and is virtually invisible. There website is www.clearbra.com The cost for your car is $210.00
  2. Completed a little research and found the following: The Incabin Air Filter is available from a Lexus Dealer for $63.00 PN: 88880 24020 All SC's have the compartment for this filter, but not many had it installed. This may have been a dealer option and most saved the money and did not install. When I opened my compartment up, there was alot of fine dust and lint on the cover. It seems that this would be a good option to install. The filter looks much like a K&N and could be cleaned with soap and water and reused. It would also be a good way to add a little air freshener to the filter before installing. I hope this helps anyone thats interested.
  3. I found the DIY for the In Cabin Air Filters. http://web.ace.net.au/soarer/air_conditioner_filter.html I then went to remove them from my 93 SC400 and everything was going well until I removed the door for the Air Filter. No Air Filter! I do not know if they have been removed or were never present, but there is a place to install them. My next question is, where can I find the information to order a replacement filter? Was this a Japan only option, because of smog and everyone smokes? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll check the Lexus dealer and see if they can order this.
  4. Correction! I said spindle for the Rear, it is actually the hub. The rear rotors are quite tight to the hubs and therefore there are two threaded holes that you can use to push the rotors off the hubs. The fronts, in most cases, come off very freely and therefore there are no threaded holes for the front.
  5. You might consider replacing the Coils. I had one go out a couple months ago and was lucky that I was only a couple miles from home. I limped it home on 4 cylinders. I then replaced both coils. Approximately $65.00 each from Advanced Auto Parts. These are the type items you should replace before failure.
  6. What is the Blue Book of a 92 SC300 with 160,000? I purchased an immaculate 93 SC400 with 180,000 for $4,500. Don't want to know what I paid for the SC430. The SC400 is my daily driver and all service had been done. The previous owner had all the recommended repairs and replacements that the Dealer suggested to a tone of about $14,000. I have all the records. I've replaced a few items for preventive maintenance, but I am very satisfied with my purchase and I drove it 350 mile to Tunica, MS two weeks ago and I will drive it to a golf trip in Pensacola, FL, about 450 miles. I would drive it anywhere. Good luck with your purchase.
  7. This is a pretty straight forward job. Jack up the back of the car and place it on Jack Stands. Remove the rear wheel. There are two bolts holding on the Caliper, I think they are 14mm. Slide the Caliper off the rotor and use a upside down bucket to rest it on or zip tie it to the shock spring, do not let it hang by the brake line. There are two thread holes on the rotor somewhere around the studs. Find the appropriate size bolt to thread into these holes and use them to push the rotor off the spindle. Slip on the new rotor and reverse the other procedures. Simple enough! Good Luck!
  8. You should be able to find a local shop that has the ability to Flush your Transmission. This is much more effective than draining and refilling several times. These same type shops can also drain and flush your radiator and engine block and they can also do a complete engine oil flush. This is probably cheaper than a Lexus dealer. Good Luck!
  9. I purchased a Used SC400 Steering Wheel that I was going to attempt to redo in wood. I paid through PayPal and the guy never delivered. I then checked his history and found that several people had left him negative feedback since I purchased. He had no problems from Oct 03 to Feb 04, then he decided it was easier to keep the money. I filed a complaint through PayPal and after about 3 weeks, PayPal determined that it was fraud by the Seller and reimbursed my money. I now only purchase through PayPal.
  10. Antenna, Check that it is the original Antenna. It should have two plugs, one for power and one for tuning. The Lexus antenna automatically adjusts up and down for the best reception. If it is original, then you have a problem. The antenna has a flexible cable inside that extends and retracts it. If you can extend and retract by hand, this cable is broken and it will need replacing. Mine would not work, so I removed it, disassembled the motor and cleaned it up and it has worked ever since. The cost for am OEM antenna is pretty high. If my antenna eventually dies, I will just convert to a XM Radio or Sirius setup and leave the OEM antenna retracted. Good Look!
  11. Check that the Climate Control LCD is not leaking (fading to black). This is a costly repair. Burnt needles and burnt out backlights can be repaired for not too much money, but the LCD can only be fixed by replacing the whole unit, very costly. Check the door alignment and that the doors are tight and flush. A new door hinge will cost $300-400. Check for any leaks under the hood. The Radiator reservoir were bad for leaking as is the Power Steering Pump. If the PSP leaks, it leaks down onto the Starter and can damage the starter. Check the Brakes and Rotors. Rotors are fairly cheap throught Ebay. Check the Headlights for condensation. Check the Service History and see if Lexus Service was performed. If the car is pushing 85,000 miles, insure that the Timing Belt has been replaced. Check Carfax for history. These seem to be most of the issues that many of the owners have experienced. I have spent most of my time replacing electrical components (Plugs, Plug Wires, Coils, Climate Control Unit). The beauty of these cars is that there are so many of them out there, that there are many Breakers that will list items/components on Ebay. I then purchase items that would be good spares. I have a rebuilt starter, alternator, power steering pump and Radio sitting on the shelf in case I need it. I hope this helps and enjoy your new acquisition.
  12. In a RHD car, the fuses are located just above you right shin under the drivers side of the dash. Hope this helps!
  13. I've read that our car have an in cabin dual air filtration system. Does anyone have a DIY to remove and clean these filters. Thanks,
  14. Something you might want to consider replacing during your next timing belt change is replace the front main seal. I recently had to replace my rear main seal because it started leaking. The front is weeping a bit, but I'll wait until the timing belts are changed.
  15. Tread Wear rating of 180 is very very low. Many, Many years ago a standard was established to gauge the wear rating of tires. A 180 tire will wear 1.8 times this standard. A 180 is a Super High Performance tire. A High Performance All Season Radial will be somewhere around 300-320. A 300-320 tread wear rating will last 20,000 - 30,000 miles. A 180 will last 6,000 to 12,000 miles. Premature wear is most likely caused by poor alignment. Rear tires will look like they are wearing evenly, even if they are out of alignment. Uneven wear is more noticeable on the front as the angle of the tread changes as you turn the steering. Alignment/Alignment/Alignment!
  16. I keep getting the Check Engine Light (CEL). I check the code and it is a code 27 (Sub O2 Sensor). I reset it and it will stay off for several days, then I'll call on the V8 engine and it comes on again. Does anyone know which O2 sensor this is? I have the tool to remove the O2 Sensor, is there any sense in cleaning it? Or does it just have to be replaced? When the sensor completely fails, does it enrich the air/fuel mixture or does it lean it out? Thanks!
  17. The current Navigation Systems that are OEM installations in the new Lexus and Toyota's seems that it will mount in the dash. It is a double din chassis and the oem in a SC is 2-1/2 din. You can purchase it from www.oem.com It lists for $1,695.00 Has anyone considered making this installation. The site states that the plugs for the oem Toyota's will work clear back to the early 80s. Seems they have used the same plugs for ever. I'm curious if these are the same connectors used in the Lexus'. Thanks,
  18. It's real close to its next scheduled maintenance which suggests the replacement of some major items, such as Timing Belts. The scheduled maintenance can run from $600 - $2000.00. I think it is the 110,000 mile maintenance. Check with a Lexus Dealer and find out what they do with this maintenance and what it costs.
  19. 5 Lugs X 114.3 Millimeters If you take 114.3 / 25.4 (Inches in Millimeters) you get 4.5 Inches. If this is the same pattern, go for it, but I guess your Lexus will be riding high as the profile (Height of the Tire) is substantially greater than a Lexus.
  20. Stay away from the guy on Ebay that talks about how his kits are laser cut and how superior his glue is. He is out of New York and it is junk. If you buy it and return it, he charges you shipping and a 15% restock fee, and you then have to sign a document that you will not leave him negative feedback. So, here is my feedback! :chairshot:
  21. The Water Pump, Alternator, Starter and Radiator Reservoir were replaced about 20,000 miles ago, so I don't think I'll need to replace any of those components, but good suggestions. Others might be in the same situation. Sometimes it's better off to change multiple components when your having to disassemble. In the long run, it will be cheaper tear it down once, then multiple times. I most cases, your mechanics labor will cost you much more than the parts.
  22. He might have routed it wrong. There's a diagram on the underside of the hood.
  23. The Rear Main Seal is in and it seems that I can remove the cardboard from my garage floor. I also let him replace the Fuel Filter while he had it on the rack. We noticed a little weeping from the Front Main Seal, but I'll what as I will need to replace the Timing Belts in the next few months. Since he has to remove the Timing Belts to get to the Front Seal, I'll knock out both at the same time.
  24. I've been looking to purchase the wheels over the Net, possibly Ebay. Most of the listers can not verify and in most cases, will not verify the application. I'll keep checking.
  25. I am in the market for a set of 18" Rims. In the future, I will be replacing the stock calipers and rotors with the Supra TT Calipers and Rotors. What offset do I need with the 18" Rims to insure that I will have adequate clearance for the larger rotors.
