  1. The Universal applies to all the locations of the O2 Sensors. The reason they can produce a universal is that the effective range is broader and it can accomodate the ranges of all 4 sensors. Only an oem sensor would be set for a very close tollerance of each range.
  2. There is a symbol in the dash that is intermittently coming on that shows an oil can with a water line under it (wave). Is this oil level, oil pressure or oil temperature. What causes this to come on intermittently? Thanks,
  3. If you can find one at a Breaker Yard, it should be a pretty easy swap. I put one in my Nissan Frontier with Compass and Temp. Cheer!
  4. Talk about a Thread straying from its original subject! Wow Guys!
  5. I do not think that Mobil 1 is the reason you have never experienced an oil leak. It is more than likely good luck. Mobil 1 is a slicker thinner oil at temperature, so if you experience a leak, Mobil 1 is more likely to pass through this leak more freely. I agree that the Lexus V8 is a very high quality engine, but gaskets are very susceptible to aging and developing leaks. The problem with oil leaks is determining their source. It's easy to see at what point the leak is hitting the floor, but its another point to determine where this leak originated from as the oil leaks, it takes the path of least resistence and could be coming from one point, but hitting the floor 1 foot to the left and 6 inches to the rear. Its great that you have never experienced a leak, but for those of us who have, I am sourcing input from the guys that have and how they traced it and what measures they took to correct it. Thanks for any Help!
  6. Oops, I accidently added this to another post. Lets try again! How many O2 sensors are on a 93 SC400? I keep getting Err 27, but it doesn't tell me which O2 sensor is giving the problem. Is it better to replace with an OEM sensor or an after-market? Auto Zone sells a universal O2 sensor, is this adequate? I've also heard references to wide-band O2 sensors, is this something I should consider? Each OEM sensor is $121.39, is this a good price? If I replace one, should I replace all? It seems there are (3) sensors, one front and a rear left and a rear right! Thanks for your help!

  8. As our beloved SC's get older, oil leaks seem to be more prevalent. What have you guys experienced with oil leaks on the V8 engine, and how have you remedied them? I first had a rear main seal start leaking and had that replaced for a total cost of $300. I was also informed that I had a minor leak with the front main seal. I will wait until I replace the Timing Belts to take care of this one. What other locations have you guys experienced leaks? Thanks!
  9. I'm interested in the Side Skirts and possibly the front bumper cover. PM me! Thanks,
  10. They may have seen one of those Infamous SC300 that were badged as SC400. I watched a program were Rod Millen transplanted an LS430 V8 into an IS300 and adapted a 6 speed tranny. They also heavily modified the suspension and had to rewire the electrical system to foul the ECU into thinking it was an auto. Major modification and am not sure if they now make a kit for this.
  11. Actually, it didn't stop firing all of the drivers side of the motor. It stopped firing on two cylinders on the driver side and two cylinders on the passenger side. This is why both cats were glowing red. Raw fuel was dumping into each cat. Think about it, there has to be some balance in the firing for the engine to even run. If only one side of the engine is getting fire, the engine would be so out of balance that it would not run. Each coil fires two cylinders on one side of the engine and two cylinders on the other side of the engine. Not a slam, just a clarification.
  12. How difficult was it to replace the front bumper? Did you also do the side skirts? Where did you find the bumper? Sorry for all the questions, but this is something I'm looking into myself.
  13. I believe that the Data is loaded with a CD through the normal CD player. It automatically access the RAM and loads the upgrades. Mine is an '04 and should not need an upgrade in a while. As mentioned earlier, there has not been enough changes in the Interstate System to necessitate an update. Even the upgraded version is wrong in many area's. I found restaurants to be out of business and hotels that have changed ownership and name.
  14. It is the RS Limited Ikari 18X7.5 +45 Offset Wheel. I have a photo/image, but I do not know how to attach it. Can anyone help? Thanks,
  15. My mistake, there are not many selections for the 225/45/18!
  16. I am looking for a reasonable set of tires for these wheels. Tire Rack recommends 225/45/18 (25.97 dia.), factory is 225/55/16 (25.74 dia.), but there is a greater selection in 235/40/18 (25.40 dia.). The guy at the Tire Rack says the 225/45/18 is the same width as the factory tires which fit on a 7" rim. The next size up is the 235/40/18, but he says it will not fit the 7.5" rim and that it is for an 8" rim and I would run the risk of the bead of the tire coming off the rim. Has anyone had the experience of selecting the proper tire for the 18"X7.5" rim? Thanks,
  17. Will 235/40/18 work on an 18" X 7.5" rim? Tir Rack recommended the 225/40/18 which is the same width as the stock tire on the 7" wide rim. There are alot more 235 selections than there are 225s! Thanks
  18. It may be your Coils! There are (2) coils on the 4L engine. One directly left of center behind the coolant overflow tank and the other is the the right hand side of the engine. I had the top coil go out and it was running on two cylinder on either side of the engine. But, it is hard to imagine that both Coils have gone out. Remove the coil wire and if you barely put it into the cap and have someone turn the engine over, you will hear the spark poping as it jumps the gap. Use some insulated pliers as it will pop YOU real good if you don't. One coil bad may be bad enough that the engine will not fire if the other coil is week. I replaced the bad coil and then replaced the good coil for good measure and the old coil is under the mat in the trunk for a spare.
  19. The compartment for the CD Changer seems quite big, but I guess it mirrors the other side. It might be cool to add a door to the lower side of the compartment and divide it off from the CD Changer and create a nice little storage compartment for say, cleaning supplies. Looks Great! Did you do a drawing and a DIY write-up?
  20. The primary problem with a BFI system on the SC400 is that when you increase the amount of air in the air box, the volume you gain is hot air from the engine compartment. The BFI modification must also include enclosing the area around the the new air intake so that only outside cooler air is allowed in. This is the same problem with the cone filters. They do not intake the outside cooler air.
  21. I have been quite suprises with how quiet my 04 SC430 is going down the road with the top down. Have you turned ON the auto sound level control? This lets the level increase as outside noise increases. I have the Mark Levinson Sound package.
  22. Has anyone checked into the possibility of transplanting an SC430 4.3L engine into an SC400? This would be a great way to extend the longevity of our beloved body style as well as gain a few more Ponies!
  23. Does anyone know if an 18 X 7.5 Rim with +45 Offset will have any problems with a stock SC400 and an SC400 with Supra Big Brakes? Thanks!
  24. I painted my calipers and applied the stickers approximately 6 months ago and they look great. They should last for quit a while.
  25. For all his time and effort, I really like the Trunk Prop (California Duster)!
