  1. Of all the forums I visit, these one seems to take the longest to get a reply. No one has a limited use SC400 that has experienced this problem? I never had this problem before the in-cabin air filter, but I was driving it regularly. It only started after storing it in the garage and driving only once or twice every two weeks. Thanks for any help!
  2. I installed an in-cabin air filter last year. The last few months I have not been driving the SC400 and have been keeping it in the garage. I've driven it twice in the past week and there is a strong mildew/stale smell coming from the ac vents. Does the in-cabin filter cause this when it gets old? Does my indash duct work need cleaning? Has anyone had this problem, if so, how did you eliminate it. Thanks,
  3. You are correct, there are (4) O2 sensors. (2) before the catalytic converters. (2) after the catalytic converters. (1) where the two pipes come back together before they split again into the dual exhaust. This last one is your main catalytic converter.
  4. This must only be a problem with the 92 as I installed the in-cabin filters in my 93 with no problem. Slipped right in!
  5. The SC400 (V8) came with the spoilers as standard. The SC300 (IL6) have the rear spoiler as an option. Some dealers installed them as standard, but, technically they were an option from Lexus.
  6. My 93 has this and does not have traction control!
  7. There is a DIY on one of the Australian Lexus sites that tells you how to disassemble and rebuild the bushings in the door hinge. This is an articulated hinge and this is why 1mm of play can be so crucial. It thought about the rebuild, but then decided, long term, it would be better to replace with new.
  8. Click on Search Enter "Headlight Condensation" "cheers"
  9. JD Power and Associates just released the SC430 as the most reliable and highest in Customer Satisfaction for new Buyers.
  10. One thing about a Lexus, they do not build anything light weight. These doors are probably some of the heaviest doors in modern auto manufacturing. This is why they have engineered such a heavy duty door hinge to hand it with. My 93 SC had a worn out drivers hinge. The hinge is designed not only to open the door, but also move the door away from the body. This articulated hinge is under alot of load. I ordered a new hinge from Carson Toyota www.l-tuned.com. Shipped, it was $275, almost a third cheaper than anyone else. A used hinge is also going to be very worn. I would recommend a new one. Good Luck!
  11. The SC's use a tunable antennae. What this means, as the tuning frequency changes, the antennae will raise or lower for the best reception. If your motor is done, then your antennae is not tuning and you will have bad reception. I have no idea what you mean when you say the volume only goes to 1:00. Sorry! Good Luck!
  12. Sorry, not available. The LS400 LCD can be replaced, but no one does a replacement for the SC's. I asked why and was told, if I wanted to purchase 500 LCD screens and then I could mark them up to others. The LCD on the early SC's were notorious for bleeding out. But, when you add up all the LS's that were sold, the SC's come nowhere close to that number and therefore it is not economical for anyone to repair these units. Look on ebay for a salvaged model with no bleed. Even if the module does not work, the LCD can be removed and placed on your working version. Good Luck!
  13. Has anyone retro-fitted their R12 AC system to the new R134A system? I turned the AC on today and it was only a couple degrees cooler than the ambient temperature.
  14. There are a few companies that do an LCD panel replacement for the LS400. But, luck has it, that no one does a replacement for the SC300/400. YOur only options are to buy a costly factory replacement or utilize Ebay or a Braker Yard for a used replacement. Multiple years of the SC had different color backlights. Good Luck!
  15. I've got the Run Flats on the 430 and am less than satisfied with their performance. I do not drive the 430 very often and only in good weather. But, they seem to flat spot when they sit for awhile. I keep the pressure up, so this isn't the reason. I am very happy with the Nexen N300 tires and will likely purchase another set and keep them for when I need them for the 430. The 430 uses the same 245/40/ZR18. The tires currently on the 430 are 140/A/A. The Nexens have a very nice tread pattern, are very quiet and are rated 380/AA/A.
  16. I purchased a set of 18" wheels approximately 1 year ago and have just recently found some tires and had them mounted. In searching for a set of tires, I've seen everything from well known tires at $175+ each. I did not want to spend $600+ on a set of tires. So I continued to search until I found some tires that are made in Korea. Nexen bought out a Michelin tire plant in Korea in 1992. They have recently introduced a tire to compete in the aftermarket wheel craze market. The tires I ordered are Nexen N3000 245 40 ZR18. I found them on Ebay for $315.00 Plus $70 Shipping. That is $96.25 per tire delivered. I thought I would give them a try. I mounted them last night and drove several miles with them and was highly impressed with there performance. They gripped very well on wet pavement and had almost no road noise. On a dry straight stretch I ran it up to 100mph, with the radio off and was amazed that road noise was alomost no existent. The tires are rate 380 AA A. As far as I know this is the same size tire that is used on the SC430. I must verify this. I may buy another set and put aside for the 430.
  17. Did you have to remove the coils to add the hose? What type of hose did you add?
  18. I found it! Low 9006 High 9005 Park 168 Frnt Turn 1157 Rear Turn 1156 Tail 1157 Stop 1157 License 168 Backup 1156 Frnt Side 168 Rear Side 168 Glove 74 Map 2040 Dome 194 Trunk 194 Thought this might help others!
  19. What bulb does the SC use for High and Low beams, i.e. 9004, 9006, 9007? Thanks,
  20. Does the failure module lie to the ECU or does actually work and let you know when the lights fail.
  21. I have a Pearl White 93 SC400. Where do you find the paint code number and who supplies the best color match paint for these cars. (PPG?) What is the paint process that Lexus uses? (Basecoat, Clearcoat?) Thanks!
  22. PM me when you find out as I have the same problem. I get a loud thud when I travel over bumps. I seems awful difficult to get the serial # after they are installed. Where is the serial # located? Thanks!
  23. I used an orbiting buffer with a heavy cutting 3M buffing compound (squirt bottle). I thought that it might be too agressive, but it cleaned and polished them up very nicely. I then used a less agressive buffing compound, but do not feel that it was really necessary. Good Luck!
  24. Just as the SC430, this seems to have a non-functioning rear seat. I love the room that my SC400 has in the rear seat. I hate it in the SC430. Even when you through things into the back seat of the 430, they are very difficult to retrieve. I wish they would lengthen the car slightly and provide a functional rear seat.
