  1. I notice that when the cruise control is activated and you are cruising along, the moment you brake, the cruise control is disabled. This is how it should work and that is why (I think) that if the brake circuitry is not working (ie. a brake light is not working), the cruise control is not working either
  2. Checked my workshop manual about the radio: Since the cassette player was playing and then when ejected, the radio played, it seems that (according to the manual diasnostic steps) the fault can be with either the radio assembly or the antenna system.

    Wow!

A big thank you for sharing your project and all the best! It will be all worth it
  4. If the wires look ok, I think that the radio problem may have been caused by the faulty antenna (which is common in the LS). Good luck! By the way, your other thread about the manuals: I think the manuals are the real thing not the CD
  5. The rear brake (disk pad) is easier to work on than the front. BUT: if the brake drum (used when the hand brake lever is engaged) is worn, then it may be a bear to replace :(
  6. Perhaps, you may try checking the trunk? Maybe the problem of short wiring in the trunk lever may cause this? My 2c's
  7. Thanks to UCF3 and cjzen for replying. The squeak comes from the rear driver side not the front. Are the bushings still the culprit? I will try lubricating all the rubber areas. VH
  8. Hi, When I pressed up and down on the front passenger side, the car makes a squeaky noise. What can this be? What is the likely cost (min to max)? DIY? Thanks VH
  9. My son's 91 LS400: IF the outside temp is hot, when he turns on the A/C the light blinks. But, when he just turns on the fan on Hi (ie not the A/C) for a while and then turns on the A/C (ie press the A/C button), the air is cool !!!
  10. Have you checked the Throttle Body Sensor (ie is it clean) ? Has the MAF been put back properly (with all hoses properly tightened) and no damage?
  11. '....About Bill Gates, who knew his idea of a new computer software would blow up to produce so much money?' AND SECURITY HEADACHES for everybody? Just heard on the radio: Should ditch IE !!!

  13. I think you can still use your jack at the spots in the owner's manual if you put in a THICK (2-3 inches thick of hardwood) square-shaped piece of wood BETWEEN the circular head on the jack AND the jack spot on the car: ------\-----/------------------ CAR ===== SQUARE PIECE OF WOOD \=====/ CIRCULAR HEAD ON JACK
  14. See gallery photo for copy from owners manual
  15. Even new, it may be better to give the rotors one round of turning before install. I did that with all 4 rotors and they are smooth.
  16. Good link: http://www.trustmymechanic.com/rear_seal.htm
  17. I will try to take digital pictures and post them to help you out
  18. Wandawoods: Why don't you try draining and filling first and wait to see what happens? Beter to take the less risky route IMHO
  19. I don't think that the rear main seal leak (confirmed by dealer yesterday) was caused by trans machine flush.
  20. You can use any standard jack that comes with any Japanese car. I try to minimize the use of the LS400 jack and used the one that comes with the Mitsubishi Galant instead. The 3-ton jack circle should be put under the crossbar frame of the car ie. in the middle of the car
  21. No, the flush was done 11/03. The leak only happend last week. Just wear and tear I guess or was it because of the synthetic oil (Mobil 1)?
  22. Just got the damage estimate from dealer: Rear Main Seal $1400 + tax. Temp solution: Keep an eye on the oil !!!! :cries: :cries: :cries:
  23. A while back, I put a bottle of fuel injector cleaning into the gas tank. Then the engine started sputtering at idle, acceleration with poor gas mileage. I took the car (91 Galant) to various shops => common advice: replace fuel injector. Just when I decided to do this, the last shop took out one of the injector and put it back => by sheer luck of taking out and reinstalling the (bad/clogged) injector => must have displaced a speck of dirt? => car back to smooth performance !!!!
  24. It was a JiffyLube machine that did a complete flush
  25. I am not sure (until Thursday from dealer) that I now have a transmission oil leak becasue I flushed the trans ? I read that I may have been caught with a dilemma: if you don't flush then it may be bad for the trans but if you do, then the old crud will damage the seal. *&%$S if you do and %%^$# if you don't :cries:
