  1. TPS = Tire Pressure Sensor. Transmiter imbeded in valve stem that measures tire pressure in each tire and sends info. to dash board. Paul UK to USA translation error, sorry . :D
  2. The 1999 year model has a different motor set up to the earlier years and the motors have been known to fail. Bad news is they are not cheap but some other Toyota models use the same motor and cost less. As you mention check the key sensor 1st.
  3. Hello and welcome to the LOC. OEM rims 17" to 18" are a straight swop. Not sure what you mean with TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) as this has nothing to do with the wheels unless you mean TPMS ( Tire Pressure Monitoring System).
  4. Another symptom is the cats glowing red when the engine has been running for a while due to unburnt gas entering them and this can damage them so don't leave the job too long. The driver's side is the usual culprit and the hardest to replace. The link below may help. http://us.lexusowner...ls-on-92-ls400/
  5. Stolen from another club!! http://www.clublexus.com/forums/performance-and-maintenance/546472-diy-sc400-a340e-shift-solenoid-replacement.html
  6. I did my worn shifter with leather dye, result below not had any wear problems since, not an exact color match but does the job.
  7. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I too have a Celsior but I think mine is the B specification so no rear AC or massage seats but has full leather. Are you on springs or air suspension, mines on springs but also has TEMS.
  8. This is being covered on the UK club at the moment so I thought you guys would like a look in too. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=79247
  9. You seem to be heading in the right direction, with all 4 playing up it would suggest you need to look for something that is common to all 4 which would be the ECU which you have now eliminated or a common 12 volt supply or common earth/ground missing. No one has touched the AS switch in the trunk have they by accident?
  10. I also read recently that the Aisin transmissions can have problems with sticky shift solenoids, when was the last time you replaced the transmission fluid?
  11. Correct torque is 25 ft-lb (34 Nm, 350 kg-cm) for the caliper to the slide pins. Also welcome to the LOC.
  12. I don't think the sub woofer can be turned off as an option, things to check are the speaker itself and I would imagine there will be a seperate sub amplifier located somewhere, possibly n the trunk.
  13. Where do insurance companies get their figures from? Mine was a $1500.00 repair with just this damage and that was after the car was written off and I had the repairs done myself.
  14. Good to hear you are OK and the quote means a repair is likely. I don't know if you guys have seen this UK clip but I think "Fenton" the dog may have been responsible for the damage.
  15. Also white smoke could be power steering fluid being sucked into the intake manifold if the valve on the pump has failed, I would guess if there is a lot being lost it could also cause a misfire. Have you checked the PS fluid level recently?
  16. Try the replacement on your car battery before fitting it, connect the casing to -ve and the other big terminal to +ve then with your foot on the starter touch the other small terminal to the battery +ve the motor should spin and the gear move out.
  17. Not a good result then, if you decide to get a transmission from a breakers make sure you also get the torque convertor with it and don't allow it to come off the shaft in transit or it will need setting up again.
  18. I've never heard of fuel injectors failing on an LS400 engine. If you have multiple misfires the common cause is the driver's side ignition coil opposite the battery has this been checked? You need an accurate diagnosis to avoid replacing more parts ad hoc. Are your cats glowing red when the engine has run for a while?
  19. Yes there is a transmission fliter accessed by removing the sump pan. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/transmission/transchange.html
  20. Have you put anythng in there which may have jammed the latch? Not the ideal solution but press the button and give it a good pull upwards or try inserting a flat blade.
  21. When did you last change the transmission fluid? Are you sure it is Toyota Type IV in there? Have you checked the fluid level by the recommended method when hot? The Aisin A340 transmission has a shift shock system which means it should first shift into 2nd when going from N to D and then drop into 1st. If the normal shifts are OK it would suggest the solenoids are working normally but it could be a line pressure problem.
  22. I noticed you mentioned the idle speed varies, have you checked the IACV as they can get gummed up and do not move correctly, it would explain the idle speed problem and if too much air is being let through the engine will stall. Another one to check and clean is the throttle body. Finally have you disconnected the MAF to see if the engine idles better as these also play up.
  23. It sounds like a complete computer reset has occured, is the car LHD? Seems strange as all Celsiors were RHD for the Japanese market. How long was the battery power off, there is normally a built in back up for a while. Have you contacted a Lexus dealership regarding the problem as I would think the language is dealer programmable and the other could be also.
