IIRC 1998 models do not have the PS pump located above the alternator?
-
Hello and welcome to the LOC. Assuming the warm engine idle speed is correct at around 650 RPM. First check for me would be transmission fluid level as detailed in your owners manual then check the condition of the fluid itself. The fluid should be a dark cherry red color, if it's brown or smells burnt it needs replacing. The fluid is a special Toyota mix called Type IV do not use anything else. The stuff is available in quart bottles and is cheaper by the case from dealers. For more information on replacement have a look at the tutorials on www.lexls.com.

I've also posted this on the UK club but wondered if anyone has ever had this problem occur. Stranger still there is also another UK owner having done the same job with the same fault. The fault appeared after the cluster was removed for the blinky light repair, battery was disconnected throughout and when the cluster was reinstalled and the battery reconnected the Airbag light stayed on. Thinking it was the error code 41 problem I did the wire dance and up came code 22 indicating the Airbag sensor unit had a fault. All 3 12 volt supplies are present at the ECU so it's not a power problem.

Strange as the PCD on the 460 rims is 120 as opposed to 114.3 on the earlier models.

'92 Ls 400 Lower Right Kick Panel Removal
steve2006 replied to fsuguy's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Here's mine with pictures I posted recently on the UK LOC, feel free to use as required. Obviously for a RHD model but the principle is the same for LHD. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/tutorials/article/214-1990-1994-engine-ecu-access/ -
Apparently there is a known problem with the LS430 mirrors in that the limit switches fail ( these stop the motor when the mirror is either in the fully out position/driving position or when it is folded in). These are not available as a spare part, the whole mirror needs replacing. If you don't need to fold your mirrors disconnecting the motor drive wire would be the cheapest option.

There was this thread on the UK LOC. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/6344-bleeping-when-engine-is-turned-off/?hl=%2Bsunroof+%2Bopen+%2Bwarning#entry77677

91 Ls400.. Temp Going Up Up Up.. Then Down, Down Down...
steve2006 replied to 914lps's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Well I'm probably 4000 miles away but will agree with your thermostat theory, it could be jamming closed then suddenly opening, for what it costs I would replace it to eliminate it being the cause. I"m assuming the coolant level is correct and there are no signs of leakage. The expansion tank cap is another possible as is a water pump on it'd way out and and air lock in the cooling system. -
If you pm me your Email I will send you the factory manual section for the disassembly and testing of the horn circuit.
-
Before doing anything regarding the Horn Pad make sure you disconnect the battery and then wait at least 20 minutes for any back up circuits to discharge as the airbag system is also in the Horn Pad. Failure to do so may cause unexpected operation of the airbag!. To remove the pad prize out the 2 plastic covers on the side of the steering wheel then slacken of the 2 star/torx screws ( one each side) as can be seen in the picture below, just slacken them fully they do not fully come out. Disconnect the airbag connections and this is what you should see. The connector at the top is normally attached to the clock spring and it is the top right connection ( single black wire) which is the horn feed to the push bars, the black wire should be rivoted to the right side push bar. The horn circuit is completed by pushing either spring loaded bar down thereby earthing the relay coil via the steering colunm and sounding the horn.

The code relates to the Traction Control system if fitted. It would appear that the throttle pots for both the main throttle and trac are misadjusted, there is a factory proceedure for setting them up. 46 - Main throttle position sensor signal is 4.3V or higher, or main throttle position sensor signal is 0.2V or lower when idle switch is OFF 47 - When idle switch is ON, sub-throttle position sensor signal is 1.45V or higher

No problem glad to be able to help, have you got it sorted yet? -
Issue With A/c Electric Cooling Fans Under The Hood.
steve2006 replied to 914lps's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
If you pm your email address I will send you the wiring diagrams. There are 3 relays involved in fan motor control and combined these control the fan operation of both the cooling system and AC. -
There are 2 drains at the front not sure about the rear but couldn't see any on mine, picture shows one of the fronts in center. Thick nylon cord is good for clearing the pipes.

Hello, New Member With A Suspension Question Here.
steve2006 replied to dc893's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Brake calliper slide pins can cause this, remove regrease refit or replace if too far gone. -
Hello and welcome to the LOC. Simple answer..... search but seeing as you are a newbie http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/52146-01-ls430-tilt-wheel-stuck/

Outside Front Passanger Door Handle Will Not Open The Door.
steve2006 replied to 914lps's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Look on www.lexls for the inner door panel removal and then have a look thru the circular hole shown in the picture. You should be able to see the external door handle link rod in there, pull the handle and see if it moves, if it doesn't it's the handle end of the rod causing the problem if it does move it's the lock end of the link rod. -
Common on the earlier LS400s was the exhaust heatshields rattling due to rusted broken fixings or rusted out bolts causing them to drop onto the rear mufflers so I guess the same could happen on the later LS430s. If the fault is now present constanly that should help with diagnosis, grab an automotive stethescope for a few $$ and have a good listen around.

Looking For Good 12 Voilt + Line To Tap Into
steve2006 replied to 914lps's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
It is a JDM Celsior but as I said I didn't know if it was standard across the range as mine does not have the heated/massage rear seats but the loom was still fitted. -
Looking For Good 12 Voilt + Line To Tap Into
steve2006 replied to 914lps's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Not sure if this was standard across the range but mine has an unused multiway connector under the rear seat base which if they were fitted would power and control rear heated/massage seats. If you can locate this and find a 12 volt supply on one of the pins it would be a short hop to take a wire from here under the carpet to the centre console. -
Looking For Good 12 Voilt + Line To Tap Into
steve2006 replied to 914lps's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Click on the link below to reveal the wiring color codes, look at the 5th item down marked "Accessory" this is the wire you need to locate coming out of your ignition switch loom for your supply. http://www.lextreme.com/ls90.pdf If you aren't fully confident in vehicle electrical wiring and removing the trim to gain access get a shop to do the work for you or buy the service manual on CD rom for a few $$ and it will tell you. -
Nav Problem Ls430! Any Advice Or Input Greatly Appreciated
steve2006 replied to Geno19's topic in 01 - 06 Lexus LS430
I found this with a search on Google.com http://www.ehow.com/how_7588719_reset-lexus-navigation-system.html -
Have the refrigerent level checked first in case it has all leaked out, the compressor pulley on the serpentine belt does turn all the time but is the magnetic clutch engaging? The AC fan is designed to cut in and out and not to run continuously.
