  1. i hear the most difficult thing is to cut a hole in the firewall for the clutch master and line things up there, also you need to make the shifter hole bigger. and another hard thing to do is find all of the parts or come up with the money, but the last one depends on the person :D but other than that i hear its preatty straight foreward, and can be done in a good weekend. one of the members here did it recently after his auto tranny blew(i think)
  2. my bad 99lsguy thought he had a gen1.
  3. it happens once in a while. but if you take these motors appart and look at the seals, even after 14years and over 100k miles on it the seals look good. but maybe just a bit stiffer than the new ones.
  4. well if you have seen both you can kind of make it out. the v8 is wider right? so well of course the aluminum i guess you can say sub mount is narrower, than the wide i6 sub mount. i dont know if you get what i am trying to say.
  5. well like you said you will need to take the head off and see if you can rebuild it. and if you do the rebuild. expect the machine work to cost you over a grand. mine cost 1200 bucks on a 6 cylinder.
  6. try call a local plastic shop try look in the phone book or something. or you can go online and search on yahoo or whatever just punch in "how to lay carbonfiber" or something like that. you will get a lot on how to and where to buy. there are several kinds of weaves you can buy and you can buy by the yard. and that spray booth will come in handy when finishing the epoxy.
  7. he probably means with fog lights, garnish, emblem, all the hardware to install, and having it painted then it would probably be close to a grand.
  8. i am not too sure about what other hardware you will need to fit the new bumper. and if that 71dollar bumper is a genuine part then it would be ok otherwise go to the dealer. the emblem should fit but will need new adhesive. and well you need that center garnish for the 97.
  9. intake and exhaust components will only give you better response, and not really a big difference in power. if you do get exhaust and there is no emmisions laws get rid of your cats, and get hedders too.
  10. the strut bar bushing dont have to be pushed out at least on mine i didnt.
  11. i think TEMS only came in japan with the SC. i remember the toy cressida having TEMS but that is all i dont ever recall TEMS on newer cars.
  12. get a new one and get a 97 and up while you are at it. and matching paint should not be a problem for an good paint shop. you can find the bumpers at the dealer for about 350 bucks.
  13. more than 2000bucks for the vertex kit
  14. yea looks like a vertex knock off.
  15. the vertex bumpers i believe are urethane. but dont hold me to this. also AWJ got a carbon front bumper, try give him a buzz(PM)
  16. the bell housings are different the computers are different and thats just a small bit of what is different and you are probably better off (financially) just getting a 98 sc400 with the 5speed
  17. oh yea that box on that side of your screen is your warning level. if you say or do things that the moderator dont like or that are against the rules there will be warning levels posted. and apparently you can only see your own. i have one but i cant see anyone elses. and your at 0% so no worries there.
  18. as does any car of that age. you have to watch out for rubber parts and hoses, rubber parts include suspension pieces, motor, tranny mounts...get the idea right? as for the rim deal i didnt know that the chrome kind of flakes out after ageing...new rims maybe. :D
  19. yea i have a mill and lathe too i am looking in to a sand blaster and a press but the shop that i always go to and weld for lets me use their stuff so i dont see the immediate need. i also make small things for them or modify small parts for them. so its kind of a trade off. and thanks awj, jpi, and lexie i will try and convince them that the kit exists with these part numbers you gave me.
  20. awj: on an island where you can drive edge to edge with an hour(with no trafic) there is only one lexus dealer along with only 1 everything of luxury auto dealers. jpi: could you possibly give me a part number and dont wory im not your average mechanic kid, and i got a parts washer too!
  21. yup thats his doors.and hood. buy them! :D
  22. hey do any of you know of a power steering pump rebuild kit available from the dealer. i just called and they said they dont have. and i am sure that there is one that exists because there are rebuild specs on the manual. thanks -z30
  23. well if your happy thats the main point and yea its a bit high but well if you are satisfied after then that is priceless :D
  24. yea go for good stuff and after install go for a test drive on the freeway before you pay so you can check for seal leaks . they can screw up on that. and watch for interior defections that may have occured during install, and have them take care of it.
  25. a tourque converter doesnt change gear ratio. what it will do is i guess you can say engage with the transmission at a higher rpm like a clutch engaging at a higher rpm to get a faster launch. i havent had a hopped up converter so you might have to ask around but i would think that depending on the stall speed you choose it will become less streetable, in other words it will become less comfortable under normal driving conditions. if you dont mind a bit louder car you can go for an exhaust from the headders ,get rid of your kittens, and back and hopefully you dont live anywhere where they check for emmisions. then go for an intake. that will give you improved throttle response and hopefully the extra juice you were looking for.
