  1. the weather is hot! but well there are still the trade winds. where are you now?
  2. stock shocks. engine and tranny mounts are a good start. after you change those you can pin point other suspension details. yes the car gets smoother strut arm bushings go out lower ball joints, rear trailing arm bushings go as well. oh and balancing tires are a good thing to do.
  3. cars these days have knock sensors that !Removed! timing to help prevent detonation and under extreme circumstances (like turboed cars) the engine will ping even with the sensor because you push the limit. going from 91-87, though not recommended wont do that much because the ecu will sense this and !Removed! timing but you will loose noticeable power. bottom line is if you cant or dont want to pay the extra 5 bucks for premium then maybe you should think about another car. not to be mean or anything but thats how i feel.
  4. easier thanyou thought right? well good news!
  5. no these are classic symptoms of a trans wearing or more deteriorating over time and driving. in the valve body of the trans there are little rubber balls that controll flow and over the years they wear and or harden this causes the jerk when changeing gears. and it does this when its cold becuase the fluid has not warmed up so that it can not flow that well and when it finally does it is a sudden jerk.
  6. yea the first time i did it i took out the head light but once i figured out how the socket worked i could do it on car and i thought it was a big waste of time but well thats how we learn ;) once you get the hang of it it should be a snap.
  7. everyone that is going to change the tranny mounts whould change motor mounts as well. and if your transmission jerks when you shift from R to D thne it is signs of a wearing transmission.
  8. you just simply open up your hood and get to the socket of the low beam which i believe is the middle of the three sockets and just twist the socket and pull out and when putting the new bulb in be sure not to touch the bulb with your fingers because they say the oils off of your bare fingers can burn and cause a fire from the heat of the bulb.
  9. had the same symptoms on both of my cars and tranny mount was the culprit. you might as well change the engine mounts too and your car will run as smooth as new.
  10. it seems to me that sc400 has problems with coils because that just happened to me about a week ago along with another person. those symptoms are exactly what happened to me it happened all of a sudden and when i gave gas my tach would drop to zero and raw fuel smell out the exhaust. as for your fan problem try check your hydraulic fan.
  11. to reset the ecu you can just disconnect the battery and wait a minuite or two before connecting again. as for timing belt its almost time and if you are doing it then change the waterpump while your at it because you need to take it off to do it anyway. try check your throttle position sensors for proper resistance.
  12. did i tell you that? well anyway try motor mounts next if they are original. but 180 bucks is a bit much i think. i changed mine on both of my cars because of this vibration and they took only 30 min to change. and this is doing it on the floor with hand tools. it must take less than half the time on a lift. and parts is only like 70 bucks. but well good news though
  13. all you need is 1/2 inch drive tools. it shouldnt be that hard.
  14. i am one
  15. does it seem like the tranny is down shifting? and with 87k miles on it its time to do some GM(general maintenance) if it hasnt already been done. timing belt water pump, plugs, plugs wires, rotors, caps etc... you can check the trans fluid to see if its dirty or there for that matter.
  16. hehe thats in a 300 too they must be kind of slow
  17. oh yea they only make one cat back for the 30 soarer by the way
  18. well you can get universal mufflers from them and they have like 10 different series but its probably not available in america. but there are always importers. try look at hks-power.co.jp
  19. i had a problem with my coils recently try check those. and do you smell raw fuel out the exhaust?
  20. i hear people use the sc300 rear ends but your speedo will be off
  21. my ls430 i think proline or protoform made a jetta.
  22. hks is the more quiet of the bunch and there are different types of mufflers but if you are going full cat back i think there might be only like 2 kinds stainless and Ti. so well you can always run the silencer
  23. looks like your M3 could use a bit of body work or another body. hpi bodies are the best looking.
  24. HKS has a circle grounding kit that runs for maybe 150 bucks...did i mention its HKS? its nice and 24k plated..oooo shiny
  25. i nwent out and bought a big monkey wrench. like a 1 and 1/2 inch one that will fit about right. 1 inch is 25.4mm +1/2 which is 12.7= 38.1 so that fits right? well i used it and get a good wrench. because cheap ones go off on the setting when you give it touque
