  1. no there are 3 mounts total. just do to the dealer and order the 3 rack mounts. these mount the rack to the chassis.
  2. welll the shocks may have something to do with it but try and have your bushings(mounts) on the steering rack looked at. if those are worn then you will have sloppy steering or harsh feed back to the steering wheel.
  3. i had that happen, it showed the code for the O2 sensor on one of the banks of the motor. didnt bother with it and while floring it a few days later, the light went away. i dont think it will hinder performance. if the light comes back on read the code its most likely the o2 sensor. and if it bugs you that you need to reset the ecu then change the o2 sensor.
  4. you have to remember that your car is at least 10 years older than your friends and you should hope that its faster. and well what naturaly aspirated 4 liter v8 in 1992 made 250hp? and at the same time was quiet and smooth. your 4 speed trans is also no match for his 5speed. that one extra gear makes a whole lot of difference for 0-60/ 1/4mile runs. to help a little you might want to invest in some gearing in your diff. that will definitely improve time. along with that his car is supercharged. well all i have to say is give it a try and see how much fast his car is if it is and see what you have to do to be faster and do a rematch. as for that article the amg may be fast in a straight line but its no match for my s2000 in the twisty mountain passes :P
  5. i recently had an overhaul done to my trans on my 1st gen LS (90) before the overhaul the trans would kick in to D and R. i didnt have the trans rebuilt cuz of this but the car just wouldnt move. anyway after the trans was done my friend who is the mechanic who did this told me that he had to order a few parts because some were brocken and so on, and among these parts was the throttle cable for the trans which varies line pressure in the trans. i asked him if this could cause harsh engaugement in to gears and he said possibly yes. because if its stuck at an open position that would cause more line pressure and harsh engaugement kind of like poping the clutch on a MT car.
  6. you wont ever get 50k miles on a tire that has grip. and you shouldnt cheap out on tires. your life may depend on them.
  7. i you got the 1j that wasnt from a soarer then i think you need to get one from a soarer or the pan from the 2j off of a jza80 supra. dunno about your wiring harness though.
  8. one or two of your gas struts are blown on your trunk. they are like 100 bucks each at the dealer so take on off and try to compress it if you can then its that one, if you cant or its really hard then put it back on and test the other one. it may be that both are blown. and take the sample with you to the parts guy cuz there are like 3 different mounts and he needs to see which one it is. for your headlights you can take some mother's metal polish(or any other paste metal polish) and rub out the yellow. it may take a few applications but it will shine like new after its done. then maybe take some cleaner wax and clean off the light then wax it. that will keep your headlights from yellowing longer than just polishing them.
  9. the plastic cover hanging is normal. its a wear and tear item because when you take it off and put it back on mainly during maintenance the mounting holes break through. as for your loan, if you get approved on the spot then the check is cut then and there
  10. seems like the car doesnt need the torque converter to win that race. oh and if that is an auto trans time on the golf then it would be slightly faster with a manual trans.
  11. the hardest part or changing the belt is probably getting the crank bolt and pully off and torquing the bolt back on. basic tools are needed and maybe a crank pully puller and holder.
  12. did the mechanic poke the wires going to the bulb socket to check for voltage?
  13. is the golf stock? cuz u can easily make a 1.8t go 13's on the 1/4. meaning all he needs is a chip, intake, downpipe, and exhaust.
  14. intake, exhaust, bigger turbo or turbos depending on how you want your power delivery, fuel system to support 500hp and a piggy back ecu or standalone
  15. the 5 speed was made through 92-97. if you look on autotrader using the advanced search, you will find quite a few.
  16. if you actually take appart a PS pump and look at it, there really isnt anything that looks like it goes bad except for the rubber seals. thanks! i think its the same but just to be sure you should confirm with a parts supplier. the pump is off of a SC400 but the guy who put together the tutorial is an LS guy so he put in the part numbers and stuff like that.
  17. yup just need both wiring diagrams.
  18. the 300 has a 2jz-ge its the same engine as a non-turbo supra. both engines are almost equaly capable. though the -gte has more potential.
  19. also you can check out lexls.com for the power steering pump rebuild. its in the tutorial section i helped do it ;) too bad you live on the big island, there are many shops around oahu that can rebuild tha alternator. anyway good luck to you and if you get stuck we can always help!
  20. depends on what kind of power you want to make, how much you want to spend, and i dunno about the auto tranny but the manual trans is said to hold up to about 450hp. if you go na-t which is the cheapest way for about 350-400hp which seems to be the general kits on the market which go for about 5 grand. then if you do a swap it will run you 5-7 grand depending on what you do and where you do it, will get you 300-320hp? depending on which motor you get (USDM or JDM) but there is bling factor involved in the swap. plus if you want to make serious power, its easier to make it. dont get me wrong though, the na motor if done up can make alot of power. a few? members on this board make in the upper 500 range. as for your brakes LS400 caliper upgrade is also available. supra is better though. so it all boils down to how much power you want to make and at the same time how much money you want to spend.
  21. i dont know about biting the bullet for 1600 bucks when all you need is an afternoon and a replacement alternator. man they must have sold you a brand new alternator!! the best case is if you have your own alternator rebuilt.
  22. which island do you live on? anyway you can totaly do it yourself. its fairly straight forward and simple. and the hardest part may be getting some hoses off for the power steering pump.
  23. brakes last about 25k miles the car is heavy so the brakes last only about that long especially if you do alot of city driving. my friends GS had to be changed at about that much, and it was all city driving.
