  1. I have to agree with Curt. Seems like the idle drops too low when you back off. Since it is computer controlled you know the score. Hey Curt, how ya doing?
  2. Does it do this even after the car is warmed up? I know on startup the engine idles very high which always produces a thump. My wife left twin burnout marks on the garage floor just backing out one time.
  3. The key to that is finding an independent shop that knows what they are doing. Having used the dealer in the past i am not always sure they know what they are doing as they have screwed up a couple of times for me.
  4. Interesting. My 1990 has a switch next to the steering wheel which turns this feature off and on. I guess they dropped that feature in later models.
  5. The last time I used a valet was when I took my wife over to Manhatten for a business appointment. The charge $7.50 an hour and wedge your car into the garage. Luckily the guy put mine in a good spot on the end.
  6. Okay, this may be terrible but Mel Gibson was driving a 2006 LS430 when he was bagged in Malibu
  7. how much does the stuff cost?
  8. Timing belt, tensioners and while you are there, do the waterpump. Plugs and all that as well.
  9. I know this is an SC400, but it is the same as the LS400 engine. I thought you all might like to hear what it sound like without stock exhaust. I found this on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OovVH8gWvo
  10. My brother bought a nice Saab 9-5 on ebay cheap. The car drives pretty nice and has some fatty tires.
  11. can you make a video of the noise and put it on youtube?
  12. Isn't that the coolant low light? With my car, the coolant level is always an issue. Fill it a little to much and it overflows the reserviour, not enough and that light comes on. I'd add just enough water to let it go off.
  13. hey a01 glad you are doing okay. Stay cool man.
  14. mine or the cars?
  15. yeah, for sure I would add a florescent dye and check it out with a blacklight before I replaced anything. I saw the compressor online from some place out of Florida for around $400 or something. I think you also need a new dryer and filter or something in case particles of metal got into the system. I have a vacuum pump, gauges and 30lbs of R-12 on hand and I have no problem doing the R7R, what I need to know is what I need to do so I don't miss something and compromise the new compressor.
  16. Our averages between 17mpg in city driving to around 24 on the highway. Adjustments to the accelarator will significantly alter fuel consumption rates.
  17. I know the upper control arms are an issue on older LS400's Lexus wants to sell you the whole control arm but you can buy just the bushing replacements.
  18. Mine does the exact same thing. The light comes on but the compressor doesn't engage. I added some R-12 and the compressor came on but it made a racket. Anyone know what it costs to have the compressor replaced?
  19. I never thought the seats in these cars were comfortable. My wife drives the LS most of the time and she loves them, go figure? I think the most comfortable seats ever put in cars are in a Saab. My brother has a 9-5 aero and the leather seats are just perfect. If my Lexus had Saab seats it would be the perfect car. What I dislike about the seats are that they are flat and hard.
  20. Getting to the starter isn't much fun either.
  21. made a pretty good "thwacking" noise. Fake or real, it was good. I see quite a few good ones on youtube I put some of mine on there under the same name as here.
  22. I was doing some work on my recently purchased Lexus and I needed information. I used google or dogpile, I forget which and found this site. Since then I have found it to be the best car site on the internet. I joined? I guess it will say on the post. Probably a couple years ago.
  23. I don't have the patience or motivation to drive for much fuel economy. I usually average around 75-85 on Interstates and get around 24-25mpg. I can still fill this for under a hundred!
  24. I hate stuff like that because it could be one of many things. I am sorry I don't know the order but here are things it could be. Upper or lower ball joints. It is more likely it is the lower if the car still drives fine and no noticable wear on the tires. I have know loose and failing wheel bearing to make that kind of a noise. It could be the torsion bar mount. It could be a loose brake caliper. It could be the rack. Probably the easiist way to determione the problem is to pay Lexus the $75 for an inspection and they will give you a grocery list
  25. Good video clip of an IS350 at top speed.
